Curious

"Curiousness is a calamity which takes human to a new realm of knowledge"

--

"Ah… it hurts. My head is hurting", Severus groaned in pain.

[Yes, it will hurt for some time. You better take care of yourself and don't you dare repeat the stunt you did today]

[You do know that it is greatly harmful performing the spells when your energy is depleted. The consequences of doing it are bizarre. You could have died or could have paralyzed for your whole life. Why do you want to take a risk, Idiot?] Noworry ranted.

Severus's vision was blurry when he opened his eyes. He felt tired and drowsy with no strength he just laid back.

"Why am I here? Did we get caught?"

"Are we in prison?"

"Are you okay, noworrry?"

"Damn, what the hell is going on? Why am I laying on a stone?"

" This doesn't seem like a prison. Where the hell I am?"

Severus bombarded questions one after another. His voice was lazy and stuttering but he still somehow managed to form coherent sentences.

Amidst their bickering, the door creaked open and an elderly man came forward holding a bowl.

"Noworry what's this?", Severus glanced at the bird but Noworry just hummed in response.

Severus"....."

"Wait, aren't you the same monk? Do you remember me? I am the man whom you asked for compensation", Severus waved his hands frantically in front of the man.

"I do"

Severus"...."

Noworry[.....]

Damn, seriously.

Just two words!!!!. Severus grumbled.

"Okay, so you do remember me. It's my pleasure I had the honor to be remembered by you. Now, if you don't mind, please tell us why I am here?", Severus asked politely.

"Who is the unwanted guest in my home?"

"me"

"Who is lying on my floor?"

"me"

"Who is seeking my hospitality?"

"me"

"Pardon me, then who should be the one asking questions?"

Severus"....."

"Since it's my home, my floor, my hospitality and it is my right to ask questions. Tell me what are you doing here?"

Severus"..."

"Mister, I apologize for my rudeness but I have no memory of me coming here"

"Of course you won't remember. When you came here you were unconscious", the Old monk replied casually.

Severus"..."

"Why was I unconscious?", Severus asked in exasperation.

The old monk leisurely sat down beside Severus and started sipping his bowl of medicines

"How would I know?"

Severus became irritated. The old monk's non- chalant attitude only added fuel to his temper.

"Okay, since you are not going to tell me how I came here so I guess I should take my leave. Please forgive me for my rudeness and thanks for your hospitality", with that Severus stood up with much difficulty and started walking out of the room.

As soon as his hands touched the knob, a cold voice echoed inside the room.

"Fine! You want to leave, you can but do remember that if you walk out of this room you are going to die again"

Death.

This word was a curse to Severus. He didn't fear death but unjust death was something that was unacceptable to him. His hands froze and cold sweat covered his back.

"What do you mean by death. Am I not fit, why will I die? You aren't an astrologer who can predict the future. Are you, by any chance?"

"No, I ain't an astrologer. I am a measly peasant who just happens to have some knowledge on necromancy and dark magic"

Severus was astonished. As far as he knew, all the saints who performed necromancy were either slaughtered or were castrated upon King's order. Caution developed inside Severus and for the first time, he finally took a good look at the monk. The monk had a thin frame, which was covered due to his grey gown. His skin was wheatish but it had no wrinkles. It was as if he was ageless.

You know lad, "Curiosity killed the cat".

Inside a huge temple....

A man who was tall with taught muscles was frowning.

"Are all the preparations done?"

"Yes Elder. All the preparations are done", a man replied.

"Make sure not to mess the plan as you all did 26 years ago. I won't forgive you all this time"

"Yes Elder"

"Leave"

"Yes Elder"

The man slowly retreated.

Inside the chamber, the man who looked no more than 30 was lost in a trance.

"It's been 26 years. Are you going to remember me? Probably not". The man's voice was extremely sullen and remorseful when he said, "I am sorry Cynthia."

"Revenge shall be taken, blood shall spill

A sinner needs to be punished,

and the innocent shall get justice"

--

"I know, but I am a Curious cat so do me a favor and tell me why we are here?" Severus asked in annoyance

Monk"..."

"Fine, I happen to have some knowledge on medicine and by chance, I saw this bird who was flying in the sky". He pointed his index finger towards the Noworry.

"He was really weak and soon he fainted. So, being a person who had a heart of gold I could not bear to leave you both alone. So, I carried both of you to my place"

"And"

"and nothing. I just helped you to lie down here and left you to rest for a bit"

Severus"...."

Severus was speechless. He did not know how to react.

"Okay, thanks for your help Monk but now I need to take my leave so allow me"

"You will die if you leave this place", a gloomy voice echoed.

"What??? Why? What did I do?" Severus asked in a panic.

"Huh, what did you do? Weren't you gutsy to challenge a curse? Now because of that not only you but that bird also gets afflicted. Even if you aren't a necromancer you should know that curses aren't a thing that should be taken lightly. You are lucky that the effects were less but your body still needs time to recover otherwise you will be dead in no time"

Severus was dead silent.

He never thought that the curse would be so powerful.

"Is it so?"

"Yes"

"What should I do now?"

"Just rest for the time being and try to restore your energy"

"HUHH"

With that, the old monk left the room. Severus was left alone. He felt cold. It was the same feeling which he had when the Crown prince stabbed him. He had no one.

No one who would be sad if he died.

No one who would cry after his death.

No one to mourn.

"Again, it seems like death loves me", Severus chuckled.

"Since you love me so much so I shall fulfill god's wish" Severus didn't know how but he fell asleep again. He had a good sleep which energized him. When he woke up the first thing he looked for was Noworry. He was frantic when he didn't see him beside his bed and was about to shout when the monk entered his room again. To his surprise that arrogant bird was perched on the monk's shoulder and was eating corns.

Severus"...."

"Get ready and wash up. We need to talk", with this the monk disappeared again.

Severus"...."

"Damn you noworry! You betrayed me. I will make sure you will pay for it".

Severus grumbled in annoyance and went for a quick wash up.

Severus quickly washed up and went to the living room where the old monk was sitting leisurely. A table full of delicacies was spread and it looked like a feast. That old monk sure has a good diet despite his old age, Severus remarked.

Although the food looked delicious, Severus still had some doubts, so he asked, "You made all these?"

"No, I ordered them", the monk replied casually, sipping his tea.

"Severus"...."

"Why did you order so much? Even I am not sure if we can finish it together."

"Tch…. tch…. what a waste of food"

Severus disapproved.

"Aren't you delusional, my boy? Did you misunderstand me? oh… I guess you did. This table full of delicacies is not for you instead they are for me."

"Since I helped you yesterday, my energy level got depleted drastically so I ordered a bit extra to recharge me up fully. Don't mind me. You come here and dine with me."

Severus"...."

What the hell. All these tasty foods won't go into my tummy.

Bohhoooo!

Such a heartless monk.

Severus cursed him 100 times inside his head but in the end, he nodded and went ahead to sit with him.

"What am I supposed to eat, if not them? "Severus asked in a low voice.

The old monk was greedily gobbling the food when he heard Severus' question. He just lazily pointed at the corner of the table instead of saying anything.

When Severus looked in the direction where the monk pointed, he was creeped out from his bones.

Fooooker, what the hell is that dish?

There he saw a ceramic bowl full of soup.

Well, the bowl was not anything creepy but the soup which it contained looked no less than poison.

The soup was dark green in color which almost looked like black. To make it look grosser, there were even two eggs inside the soup. The bowl was white in color which stood out in contrast with the soup making it look more unappetizing.

"Is this soup?"

"Is your eyesight week? Can't you see the liquid inside the bowl? Of course. It's soup." Monk replied annoyingly.

"Sigh. It's been years since I tasted tasty food. Damn. It's so tasty. I want to gobble it all but this punk here disturbing me every now and then" Monk humped in annoyance.

"I dare you to call this a soup"

"Are you sure you aren't feeding me poison or water from the nearby gutter you old monk", Severus screamed?

Thud!

The old monk dropped his cup on the table. He fiercely looked at Severus," What did you say? I dare you to repeat your sentence, again mortal"

The old monk lectured harshly.

"You don't know how to appreciate help huh? Fine by me. Feel free to not drink this soup"

With this said, the old monk left the room.

Severus"..."

"Noworry what the hell happened, just now?"

[Don't you have eyes and a brain to see and understand or have you become dumb?]

"You too noworry. What the fuck happened when I was unconscious? Why did you change so much? I am hurt, my heart is bleeding because of the invisible stab you which you gave me"

[Stab, Invisible…... What nonsense you are spouting boy?] Noworry rolled his eyes.

"So you know, what nonsense is. Good, now do me the honor and tell me about this drama. " Severus asked in full seriousness.

He was glaring at noworry, even if noworry wanted to stall this confrontation, this was not the time to stall.

[Have you ever heard about the book called, Ophelius]

"Yes, I did. But as far as I remember it is a myth and several folklores are made from that topic", Severus laughed in amusement.

[What if I told you that it isn't a myth? In this world, there is such a book which holds immense power]

"You.... No... No..you are lying", Severus stuttered.

Astonishment, disbelief, and various emotions came on Severus' face.

His complexion went from pale to deathly pale.

"[Easy boy. Take it easy]

"Damn. How can you advise me to take it easy? Have you become muddle-headed or delusional like him?", Severus screamed.

[SEVERUS, I advise you to keep your voice low. Just think before you are speaking and at the least take note of whom you are speaking to. You are lucky that it was me if it was anyone else you would have probably been slaughtered]

Severus"...."

"Is voicing out our opinions wrong?" Severus asked seriously.

Noworry [...]

[No, it's not wrong, but …...damn it]

[How the heck you managed to live inside the main palace, if you can't understand when to speak and when to not, Severus] Noworry cursed him.

A silly but sad smile crept on the corners of Severus' lips, "I never spoke or denied any request, Noworry"

Why do I feel sad?

Sigh

I can't scold this guy.

Noworry pitied Severus.
