That night, Melissa told Curt about what the Basilisk Head guild leader said to her. It was a proposal… a marriage proposal. Although she knew that Steven Sy likes her and has been showing her his affection ever since they first met, she still feels uncomfortable with him.
He is a wise leader, yes, but she had known that he is surrounded by many types of people and even has many women before. And this made her really doesn't want to trust his words.
He told her that he would leave all of those behind and he would be a changed man if she agrees with him. However, Melissa not only worries for herself but also for her child.
As the two talked that night, Melissa seems to start opening up her life towards Curt, this is true especially because she already knew that he was her benefactor. He is the one who caused her to reach the highest level of power which she has reached so far.
The next day, Curt left the house and went to school.
When he reached the gate, he didn't saw Jenny Mae, and feel a bit guilty. Though he didn't do anything bad, he knew that she is angry with him. The misunderstanding between them would really grow if he did not clear this up as soon as possible.
As he was about to enter the small gate, he saw an expensive-looking car stopping on the side and two people got out of the vehicle.
Alan Kane got off and then he extended his hand towards the figure inside and a female hand stretch forth as Jenny Mae got off the car.
The eyes of Curt immediately burned in anger and jealousy. He wanted to walk towards them and say something, but the people behind him suddenly pushed him inside the gate. He didn't have time to react and follow the crowd of students.
After Jenny Mae got off the car, another young woman followed suit, and Alan Kane treated the young woman with the same attitude.
"Haha… Senior Alan is really a gentleman… Hihihi…" Loo Crystal Noah said with a chuckle.
She then waves her hand and the luxurious car sped off in the distance. The three of them also followed the sea of students entering the school.
Curt enters the lecture hall and sat at the back with a gloomy expression. And beside him are two other students who seem friendlier than usual. The two seem to make him feel a bit calm as the class started.
Although Esper College is different from normal colleges, he could still remember those days when he was a college student himself. So his mood seems to have improved a little better.
That afternoon, the school made an announcement that the annual sports activity is going to start soon. It would be a week from now. The college is encouraging the students to register for any sports events that they would like to participate in.
At this time, Curt decided to spend his time at the library reading books. He needs to learn more about espers and about LEP. Online research is lacking and he needed more substantial information to further his study on LEP and espers.
And so, since he didn't have any classes that afternoon he stayed at the library.
Meanwhile, the students all over the campus are excited to enter the sports activity they like to participate in.
Track and field normal and esper type, then there is the combat, esper and hand-to-hand normal type, then the famous team sports, normal basketball, soccer, volleyball, and etc.
In the normal category, the students would be wearing LEP inhibitors to prevent them from using any esper power. Once a contestant removes the LEP inhibitor, they would be immediately disqualified. Although it is called normal games, with the enhanced physique and strength of the players, they would surely display inhuman capabilities in these sporting events.
As the campus became abuzz with excitement the faculty and staff are also busy arranging the event. Because of the tragedy, this event would divert the sour experience of those young people. So everyone knew of the importance of this event to the students.
Curt, who is staying in the library, found himself absorbed in reading and researching about espers. As he took another book from the bookshelves and came back to his seat, he suddenly discovers that someone is sitting on the opposite side of the table next to his.
A young student which looks like a freshman in college is currently concentrating on the book. Beside her is a young man who seems to be trying to talk to her.
"Hey, do you think we can enter the same sports events as last year? It's not the same without…" the young man said and then stops in the middle of his sentence while looking at the young woman with a worried expression.
The young woman did not react and just continue reading. This made the young man heave a sigh of relief. Ever since that day a few months ago where the terrorist group attacked the school, the friendship between them has been strange.
She would not pick his call and would not talk to him.
Well, he knew that it was his fault. For when he thought that they are about to die, he suddenly decided to take this chance to confess his feelings for her and forced her into a corner for a kiss.
He was successful and kissed her, but that was it. He suddenly felt a sharp pain in his groins and she ran away from him. He tried to say sorry and was really repentant, but she did not bother with him anymore.
However, right now, he is decided to do everything he could just to win her friendship back. All he wanted at that time is to be with the woman he likes for many years since high school. But because of his action, his plans were ruined.
"Wendy… I knew I've wronged you. I have already asked for forgiveness… could you please give me another chance? I promise not to do it again… We... could still be friends, right?" the young man sounded desperate.
But the young woman beside him did not budge and just read the book.
The young man has a helpless look on his face. He didn't want to make any scene in the library, so he decided to leave.
When he left, the young woman subconsciously clenched her fist, and a line of tear escaped her eyes while glaring at the guy.
Wendy Song has three other friends along with Gary Guiller. The five of them are best friends since high school. Then out of the five of them only Wendy, Gary, and one of their friends was able to enter Esper College.
Everything was doing fine, until one day; she noticed that Gary and her friend seem to be having some conflict. And until the day the terrorist attack happens, she didn't know what had happened.
But when the accident happened, their friend was killed and the two were able to escape. When Gary confessed his feelings for her, then suddenly forces a kiss. Her secret ability suddenly activated.
This is her most hidden secret and only she knew it and no one else. Even her family didn't know that she has this ability. She calls it 'contact' or 'touch' telepathy.
Ever since she discovers it, she dare not tell it to anyone because of her fears. Plus the images she could see are not complete, everything is not in order and is very incoherent and sometimes does not make sense.
However, that day, she saw it in Gary's mind, the face of her friend naked. Then she saw the two fighting and Gary's threats.
Then she also saw images of women she did not know. She was suddenly jolted back to reality when she suddenly feels a hand suddenly caressing her chest. This made Wendy woke up to reality and unconsciously lifted her knee.
With a strong force, she freed herself from Gary's clutches and ran as fast as she could to escape from him.
After that day, she decided to not see him. She also did not tell anyone; for fear that her ability would be discovered. So she just kept it for herself.
When the break started, she visited a small shop which she heard is selling some strange stuff. When she enters the shop, she saw something that she needed the most. In that shop that looks like a small convenience store, she discovers many novel and mysterious items, and what caught her attention is a pendant.
It is called the turtle pendant.
The reason for this name is because it acts like a barrier an invisible protective shell that could block any attack even from an esper below level 10. And this pendant would be a great lifesaver for her in case she would be assaulted again. Then she also saw another product which looks like a simple bracelet. But in truth, it is actually a Taser that could deliver around 100k volts at 2.1mA. That is enough to knock out any person.
With those two items at hand plus her wind esper ability, she is confident that she would be able to defend herself against Gary.
But of course, she would not lower her guards against him no matter how serious he may seem to look.
Curt on the side who saw the interaction between those two did not mind them.
It was already night time when he finished reading, and as he left the library, he noticed the same young woman walking ahead of him. At first, he didn't bother with her, but soon he discovers that something is amiss.
Someone is actually following the young woman in secret.
When he secretly shifted his gaze in the direction of the person in the shadows, his expression suddenly changes.
Meanwhile, the young woman seems to not have noticed the person in the shadow. She just calmly walks out of the campus and then walks towards the side where her dormitory is located which is outside of Esper College.
As she is walking in the darkness, a figure suddenly appears from the corner. The movement of that person was really agile that he did not make any sound.
Blending in the darkness of the surrounding, Wendy did not even notice that figure.
Suddenly, that person made a move.
He suddenly tried to grab Wendy from behind with his hand holding a handkerchief. He intends to cover her mouth with it.
As soon as he did that, a strong force sent that man stumbling to the ground.
Wendy was startled and immediately turns around and saw a man wearing a black hooded jacket, and a black mask.
Her heart skipped a beat and a scared expression appears on her face. She has already forgotten her training and her power as she trembles which slowly moving backward.
The man was able to recover from his fall and upon seeing that he was already noticed, he throws caution to the wind and suddenly rushed to attack Wendy.
The charging masked person made Wendy feels an incoming doom. She froze and was not able to move. The pressure coming from the masked man is truly terrifying.
