Chapter 28: Graduation

Denki's POV

Three years later, it was graduation time. Shinso and I have been together the whole time. Things have been great but lately he's been distant. It's strange and I've been trying to keep it from getting to me. Right now I'm trying to focus on the fact that this time next year I'll be a pro-hero beside my boyfriend.

I wandered around the campus and headed back to the class 1-A dorms. Yes, we've been in the same class all together since first year. We all love each other. I know more about them than I do myself. I head straight to Mina's room because Shinso's gone out without me again.

"Mina!!! Let me in!" I yell, kicking the door. She swings the door open and stands there half dressed. She yanks me into her room and slams the door shut again. She then growls at me and finishes getting dressed. I mutter a sorry while looking anywhere other than at her. She takes a deep breath and puts on a smile, letting me know I am forgiven.

"Shinsos gone again…" I sigh. She knows what I mean because he hasn't been in our dorm. (We share one and use another for storage, but the teachers don't need to know that) She smothers a giggle. Does she know something I don't?

"Mina… What is it you know." I ask angry, but not actually angry. She giggles again and refuses to meet my eyes. She shakes her head and mimes zipping her lips. I finger gun at her and give her a zap.

"Hey! That's cheating!" She laughs, running off and out the door. I chase after her.

"Mina tell me what you know! Where's my boyfriend!" I screech, laughing too at this point. We run through the halls, Iida comes out of his room to yell at us, but he smiles. Having loosened up over the past couple years. She makes it to the closing elevator before I do, but I'm smart enough to jump the stairs and make it there first. When she gets out as I enter the common room she dives behind Shoji and he laughs and protects her. They started dating last year and are still going strong. I pout at her.

"Denki, darling you know you're my bestie but if I could tell you I would." She complained after I pouted at her. Sero nodded, being part of the secret too. Well if they know, then I know he's not cheating on me or anything. They would tell me. Speaking of Shinso, he walked into the common room. And, all got forgotten as I jumped into his (very muscular) arms.

Shinso's POV

Two days left until the big day, and I'm not talking about Graduation day. I have everything I need, permission, the gift, and the question.

If you haven't guessed it yet, I'm asking him to marry me when we get on stage. I know he'd be okay with me doing it like that because we have talked about getting married. He's always said he wants some big, grand romantic gesture when I (and yes he said "I") ask him. I have it set up, when my Papa calls up call 1-A and we get up there he'll do everything he needs to do. Then he'll pause before dismissing us off the stage. And that's when I'll grab him and drag him to the front of the stage and ask him.

I got him a gold ring with a lightning bolt shaped Diamond in it. It'll fit him, both in size and style. I hope he says yes. I know he loves me but I also know he might not want this yet. He might want to wait. But, with everything we've been through I can't wait. We, as heroes, are never promised tomorrow. That sentence got told to us daily. Besides, I promised Eri she could be the flower girl if she kept it a secret from him.

Deku's POV

Todoroki has been acting strange lately. Very strange. He keeps avoiding me and for some reason his left side seems out of control around me. I hope I'm not making him uncomfortable. But, I did confess to him about a week ago. I told him it was okay if he didn't feel the same or anything. I felt that since we were so close that he should know how I felt about him.

Tomorrow is the graduation ceremony and I can't have him hating me on the biggest day of our lives.

I used every single skill we've learned over the years to track him down, and corner him. He stood there like he's seen a ghost, while I stood there with my hands on my hips.

"Shoto Todoroki. Stop avoiding me right now." I said, firm. He gulped and gave me a nod. This is the most assertive I've been outside of hero training. I even used his full name. He knew I was serious.

"Okay." He said, as calm as ever. But, I knew he was anything but calm. I could see emotions I couldn't place in his eyes.

"What is a matter with you? You haven't talked to me since I told you how I felt about you. You didn't even say anything then! Do I make you that uncomfortable?" I asked him, my voice cracking towards the end. He looked away.

"I wanted to wait to do this until tomorrow…" He muttered. I stood there confused. He walked up to me, standing about a foot away. He looked me in the eyes and he smiled a soft smile. My breath hitched, confused. He only smiled when he was very happy or very nervous.

Then he dropped to one knee.

Todoroki's POV

"Izuku." I started. I pulled a small box out of my sweater pocket. "I have carried this with me since the sports festival in our first year. Every day, every mission, every training session and every moment since. That's how long I wanted to marry you, and that hasn't changed for a single second throughout the years. When I went home that night I picked out this ring." I continued. He didn't say anything but there were tears in his eyes.

"My plan since then was to ask you tomorrow, on graduation day. So if you said no, I wouldn't have to face the embarrassment of seeing you everyday and sleeping in a room right next to you." I said. Tears now in my eyes, terrified of rejection. I opened the box to show him the emerald ring. Next to the emerald on either side was a ruby and a diamond. I had it designed for him, to remind him of us.

"Shoto…" He said. My heart stopped. So terrified of getting rejected by him. I could feel it coming, so I braced myself.

"Yes... Yes!" He continued. I looked up surprised. He said yes. He said yes! I jumped up, hugging him and laughing. I kissed him. And, he kissed back.

"I love you Izuku." I said into his hair.

"I love you Shoto." He replied into my chest. "Shoto, let's wait to tell everyone until after the graduation ceremony. Shinso is proposing to Denki tomorrow. Plus if your father heard about this he would cancel the engagement because we're still students." He continued. I smiled and nodded. Agreeing with him. I was happy for Shinso because I knew Denki would say yes. I want Shinso to feel as happy as I did right now.

Denki's POV

It's graduation day and everyone is being weird towards me. Smiling with a huge creepy smiles. I started hiding behind Shinso. He smiled his sweet smile at me and held my hand. We filed into the auditorium in our hero costumes.

Everyone settled down and our families all showed up. Present Mic called up Class 1-A. I wanted to cry as my friends and I got into order. This may be the last time I see some of them. No. I won't let that happen. I won't let us lose contact. They were as much my family as my own mother was.

We got called up one at a time, Nezu gave us our Hero License, diploma, and we got a hug from Aizawa Sensei. I hugged him as tight as I could and whispered a "Thank you" as I pulled away from him. I know I'd still see him all the time, but I'm saying this as a student to their teacher.

After a few minutes our class finished. We waited for Present Mic to dismiss us after the clapping of our families. Shinso grabbed my hand and yanked me up front. In front of our class, all the other classes, pro heroes, and parents. He smiled at me and someone pointed the camera at us.

He dropped onto one knee and pulled out a box. His dad handed him the mic.

"Denki. I love you. I have loved you since the night we danced in the hallway in our first year. I loved you every moment since and I cannot live without you. As heroes now, we aren't promised tomorrow. We've always known that. And I lost you once before. So…" He said, fumbling a little to open the ring box. "Will you marry me?" He finished. Looking up at me, with tears in his eyes.

I dropped to my knees too and said yes into the mic. I kissed him and he put the ring on me. It was beautiful. Exactly how I wanted to get asked, by who I wanted to ask me.

Todoroki and Deku walked up and congratulated us. For graduating and getting engaged. We were free adults now.

"May I have the mic Shinso?" Todoroki asked kindly. Shinso nodded while he held me. I wasn't paying attention until Todoroki started talking.

"Hey dad," He said looking around to find the flaming hero. "Izuku and I are now engaged too, and there's nothing you can do to stop us." He said calm, while looking at his blushing fiance. I jumped up and tackled Deku.

"When did this happen?!" I screeched happy. I was so, so happy for them. I couldn't take the longing looks when they thought no one was watching them, not even each other.

"Last night." Deku whispered.

"And you didn't tell me?" I cried. A few of our other classmates said something along the same lines.

Present Mic laughed and dismissed us. We talked and congratulated each other the whole way back to our seats. We were the only class with any proposals.

At the end of the ceremony we all met up and hugged each other. Present Mic and Eraser Head held the doors to the auditorium open.

"To our new lives as Heroes." We yelled together. And we ran into the light.
