Chapter 3: Part 3

Third Person POV

The boy on the rock continued to stare at the other, wondering what he was doing at his special spot. Meanwhile, the boy who had just arrived, stared at the boy sitting on the rock, wondering what he was doing at his special spot. Finally, the boy who was standing walked behind the giant oak tree that stood between the rock the first boy was sitting on and another rock. The boy on the rock turned to watch the other boy sit on the rock to his left.

The boys sat in silence until one of them spoke up.

"You were the one who honked at me this morning, weren't you?" the boy asked.

"Yeah, I was going to apologize when I saw you at the school but just stared at you instead. Sorry," the other said.

"It's okay," the first boy said.

"So," the other said, wanting to keep the conversation, "I know I've seen you around in school and that this is going to be a dumb question. But what's your name?"

"Justen," the boys said. "What's yours?"

"Josh," the other said.

"Do you come here often?" Justen asked, his eyes focused on the sparkling water below them.

"Yeah, I usually come later but I had a rough day and now I'm here," Josh said.

"Yeah," Justen said.

The boys sat in silence again until Josh's phone started ringing.

Josh took one look at the caller ID, sighed, and answered the phone with an annoyed, "Hello?"

His eyes widened as the person on the other end of the phone started talking. As Justen watched this scene, he wondered who Josh was talking to. Josh then hung up and turned to Justen with worry in his eyes.

"I need to go," he said. "Can we meet here tomorrow?"

"Only if you don't honk at me again," Justen smirked.

"Says the one who ever so casually flipped me off," Josh teased.

"Alright, we can meet again tomorrow," Justen said with a full smile.

"Great," Josh said. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I really need to get home."

"See you tomorrow," Justen said as Josh stood up.

"See you tomorrow," Josh said before running to his truck.

Justen sat there on his rock for a few minutes until he heard his phone go off. He looked at his phone to see that his dad wanted him home. Justen didn't want to go home because he knew his dad either wanted something or was upset at him for something he didn't do.

While Justen was sitting on the rock, Josh was speeding home to his little brother who was being held hostage by his parents. Josh arrived at his house in record time and burst through the door.

"Well, well, well," his mom smirked.

"Look what the cat dragged in," Josh's dad smirked as he held on to a crying Michael.
