The other students in the class were talking like wildfire. They keep saying how cool it is to be in a class with a member of the ten as their teacher. I could bet that some wanted Junko's autograph.
"Ahem... This class will be short today. Some of you might know that the rank matches are tomorrow. Now, participation is optional; however, thing class is a bit different.
"It is still optional, but if you do not participate, you'll have to take a paper exam which is equivalent to the battle. If I heard right, it usually takes students 6-8 hours to finish it... Now, you all will have to take the exam or the rank matches in order to stay in S class."
Huh... That's a bit troublesome. Well, I don't care about staying in this class nor that battle, but after telling my family that I was in S class, they might be disappointed if I suddenly get downgraded to A class.
I could take the exam but the battle matches seem easier. I mean, all I do is fight, right? I think the ranked matches are an all-day event so they are equivalent in time, but I rather fight for 8 hours then sit and write for that amount of time.
"By the way, your rank does not matter. All you have to do is participate and battle in one or two battles. You can even be the last ranked and still be in this class. Any questions?"
No one spoke to this. Junko look around to everyone to confirm that there is no questions.
"Okay, then the class is dismissed! Please talk to the people at the front and office to sign up for the event."
At that, five students left immediately while the other six stayed for a bit. Miyu, who is next to me, begins speaking.
"So Sho, are you going to participate in the ranked matches?"
"I don't know yet. It seems better than taking an 8 hour written exam. Though, I'm still unsure. Ranks don't matter to me."
"Huh..."
Miyu stares at me with a questionable look towards me. As she stares, Haya walks toward me.
"Sho! You must participate. We must battle once again!"
"Huh, why?"
"Cause I say! Are you too nervous that you think you can't win against me again?"
"I don't know. I mean, I bet that you'll be at 100% during the rank matches since they mean something. During our fight, you were only at 10% or near that."
Haya stumbles as I say that. Her confident look from before is now in shambles. She blinks a couple more times before regaining herself.
"Ahem. You are correct. I was testing you. That is why I want to fight you again. I want us to go 1v1 at 100% and see who comes out on top. I don't want it to be a normal skirmish though! I want to fight you in this upcoming battle."
She stares at me with a devilish stare. It doesn't look like she backing out either. She'll continue to bug me until I accept her wager. Well, I didn't care anyway. Why not participate?
"Alright; however, I don't know if we'll be fighting each other. I might get eliminated before getting close to you."
"That is enough. Thanks!"
After randomly thanking me, she turns around and marches out of the room. I could see a hint of redness in her cheeks but I ignore it. I turn to Miyu. "I guess I'll be participating now."
Miyu nods. "You can do this! I can't see you anywhere but in the top ten."
"Hah... That's giving me too much credit."
After our conversation, I walked with Miyu to the front to sign up for the ranked battles. Afterward, I took her home. On our way, Junko jump between us and walked with us. Once we got near their home, I separated from them and went on my way home. Well, I partied till I was away from everyone and then teleported home.
It was getting late so I decided to train for a bit before going to bed. I spend an hour training with my skills before sleeping.
The morning came quickly. Once I awoke, I decided to eat breakfast and hurry on my way to school. Yesterday, the receptionist told us that the ranked matches began early in the morning and last all day long. It could even take place overnight or for days on. I ate a good meal before leaving. I told my parents to wait on the celebration feast until I get my rank.
After making it to school, a couple of teachers brought me to the arena used for official competitions. They said that I get a special seat because of my position in S class or whatever that means. When I got to that seat, I found Miyu there, sitting right next to my seat.
"Hey! We get to sit next to each other!"
"Hehe, it seems like it. I can't wait for this to be over though."
"Yeah, I can see what you mean. They already made the board... Your one of the first people going on..."
"Huh, I am? Who am I facing?"
Miyu went silent for a bit but then begins to speak. "Haya..."
"This early? That's a surprise."
Yesterday, we got the rules and how the matches work. First, battles will take place in a linear way to get out everyone else. Matches are random for the unranked newcomers. There are boards for the unranked so that it is even. For the ranks, they compete within their ranks.
Let's say the number 75th person won against the 76th, then the 75th is still 75th. They get to fight the 74th person to see if they can rank up. If they win, they get fight the 73rd, and so on.
After the unranked battles, They can fight the already rank users to see their official rank. For instance, if I get rank 205th in the unranked, I can fight the person who equivalent to the ranked people. So it's pretty simple and explains how the battles take forever to do. The time limit is 10 minutes for each battle but they can do a rematch so really 20 minutes is the true time limit.
As I take my seat, the announcer begins to call my name.
"Nii Sho, please report to section 1A."
Fun times await...
