Chapter 134: Arrovon’s Technique

"Ha!"

Arrovon used the pole as balance as he kicked Travis with his two legs. Travis was forced a step back from the recoil.

Arrovon landed and twirled his pole, he then used it like a spear and began stabbing Travis repeatedly. Travis dodged many of the attacks, while blocking others. However it was difficult to counter the other attacks.

Arrovon twirled his pole and struck Travis in his ribs. Travis recoiled from the impact and spat blood. The way Arrovon fought was incredibly odd. Every move he did seemed to replay in an afterimage, throwing Travis off his tempo.

His HP was going lower, he couldn't keep receiving hits like this. Travis focused his other senses, his sight was misleading. He would need to rid himself of it.

His eyes dimmed, they seemed lifeless. Arrovon noticed this and taunted, "Given up? Oh well, anyone would in front of this great one!"

Arrovon did a set of complicated strikes, intending to finish off Travis.

Clang~

Travis stopped a strike by knocking away its path. His strength could compete with this boss, so this wasn't impossible. Arrovon's eyes widened, "You haven't given up! Very well then, let this one teach you the meaning of despair!"

Travis swung forward, Arrovon dodged to the side and swung his pole to Travis' exposed side. Travis' sword flickered and deflected the strike. He then aimed a strike for Arrovon's neck.

Arrovon leaned back, the blade barely missing. Knocking away the sword with his pole he began to do another series of stabs, "[Muteki Pole Style: Thirteen Awakening Strikes]!"

Thirteen afterimages of the weapon flashed and moved towards Travis. Unable to dodge he guarded himself as best as possible. All thirteen of the strikes hit him, making him slide back. Undeterred he threw his three shurikens towards Arrovon.

Arrovon knocked them away one by one, however on the last he missed. Because the shuriken stopped midair! Travis triggered a [Mark Of Pause] on the shuriken. Arrovon missed and threw him off slightly. It was at this moment Travis appeared in front of him! Travis swung downwards and sliced the chest of Arrovon. He grunted in pain and retreated, bleeding heavily.

This was done with a [Mark of Return] that he placed on the shuriken as it traveled. Arrovon took a deep breath, his gaze sharpened and he looked more dangerous, "I underestimated you, this will not happen again."

Dong~

Travis was sent flying back, he flipped midair and slid to a stop. He was thoroughly shocked, what had happened?

Arrovon stood there unmoving, "Come, you shall see the difference in our strength."

Travis stood straight, he adjusted his sword and focused. Losing was not an option.

Boom-!

Travis took off, his speed was incredible. He arrived in front of Arrovon in less than a second. Arrovon reacted calmly, in a smooth motion his pole was just about to hit Travis. Travis barely dodged and swung to retaliate. Arrovon deflect the blow and aimed a stab towards Travis' face.

Travis caught the pole with his free hand, gripping it tightly. Arrovon stared coldly, "Unhand it."

Travis gave a painful laugh, "Or what?"

"Unhand it! Your measly hands aren't worthy!"

The pole was wrenched free, Arrovon twirled it and smashed it into Travis' jaw. Travis was lifted off the ground from the strike, Arrovon followed through by landing a blow on his stomach.

Travis was sent flying across the arena and crashed into the wall, his HP dropped dramatically. Leaving Travis with only 30% left. Travis coughed blood and struggled to feed himself. Arrovon watched him coldly, "Death will be an escape for what I should do. You dared touch this weapon. You have no idea..."

Travis waited, time was what he needed. It had started, [Averoth's Lust for Battle] had begun. The skill did more than just improve, there was unwritten effects alongside the skill. He felt the crazed want for battle, his adrenaline was pumping, his heart rate accelerating. This was a battle, this was a challenge!

Arrovon yelled in anger, "You have no idea what you just did!"

BOOM-!!

The pole shot forward a large shockwave followed. The ground was torn apart as the shockwave moved. Travis lifted his sword to guard as it slammed into him. Even though he blocked his health dropped an additional 10%! It may have dropped even lower if not for his cloaks abilities. His immunity to damage for three seconds will not last, but he had an additional 50% in agility!

Travis freed himself and dashed forward, with his ridiculous stats 50% was an incredible amount! His sword became near impossible to see as he unleashed a flurry of strikes towards Arrovon. Yet they managed to block all of the attacks! Arrovon noticed the shocking increase of speed. Along side of that he noticed another important factor, "He's getting stronger?!"

Sparks showered the arena, several exchanges happened every second. Every strike blocked, ever counterattack thwarted. Ever second the speed of the exchanges grew. Arrovon noticed that the increase wasn't stopping, "This is dangerous!"

Yet he couldn't stop! The moment he tried to do anything else outside the flow of combat... he would get struck! This continued for two minutes, Arrovon grit his teeth and gambled. He needed to escape this!

"Enough!"

He slammed his pole on the ground and a shockwave was released. Travis slid backwards, unable to retaliate. Arrovon praised, "You're something else, to be able to fight to such a degree-!"

Dang~!

Travis attacked, normally he would have let Arrovon speak to increase his buff further. However he was thrilled with the battle, how much further can he go?!

"You. . . !"

Arrovon unleashed thirteen afterimages, "[Muteki Pole Style: Thirteen Awakening Strikes]!"

Unlike last time, Travis deflected every strike! Arrovon grew frustrated, "I am the Muteki Clan's last survivor! I will ascend above! You will not stop me!"

Arrovon grew stronger and faster, and they once again clashed with furious strikes.

Flinnder had an uncontrollable smile. This fight! This is what he needed! The strongest one standing! Unlock every hidden strength possible! Fight until the very end!

In fact, Flinnder wasn't the only one watching. . .

~ ~ ~

"This fight!"

The developers! They were watching as well! One of them was monitoring the actions of Two Tries when he noticed this fight. Once he saw who the opponent was he immediately called for everyone. If Two Tries was really obtaining info, then they should know the secret way to end this fight. If not then they could die and lose the entire account!

However neither was happening, it was a fight until the end! The speed of the battle grew so intense that none of the developers could see the strikes. Instead it was a flurry of sparks and sounds.

This was what they were excited for! A battle of tyrants! When the powerful battle! Everyone's breath was held still as they watched.

Desk Guy also watched, his heart racing. This was for two reasons, the fight excited him. However the main reason was a thought that circulated in his head. . .

'How would the slime compete against this?!'

~ ~ ~

Another minute!

Travis failed to stop growing stronger, this worried Arrovon. How much further can he go?

Travis was too excited, this speed! This strength! Had he obtained this in the past he wouldn't have had to worry about being backstabbed! He was the best! He would be the best! And he would go even further!

Another minute. . .

Sweat formed in large amounts, Arrovon's concentration could be compared to that of when he fought Lord Flinnder. Travis wasn't stopping, he grew stronger! What was the limit? Was there a limit?

Travis speed was so fast he began putting more movements into his strikes. Moving side to side as he threw strikes, attacking from more angles.

Ten Seconds have passed...

Travis managed to land a thin cut on Arrovon's cheek. Arrovon began to use even more movements in his own attacks. Attempting to thwart Travis' own.

Twenty seconds have passed...

The two clashed weapons and had a minor strength contest. Pushing against each other's weapon. This happened only for a second before they continued with the fight.

Thirty seconds have passed.

Travis began to gain an advantage in speed. His attacks were faster by just a bit.

One minute has passed. . .

The limit was reached! However Travis' was stronger than Arrovon! Every attack that was blocked was forced back a little. Arrovon grit his teeth, he had no choice!

BOOOM-!

Arrovon unleashed a brilliant yellow light that pushed Travis back. As Arrovon was shrouded by the light he yelled, "You shall be the second to ever witness this!"

The light faded and Travis was shocked upon Arrovon's appearance. A golden Kasaya was on his body. However what took Travis' attention was what was on Arrovon's head! An intricate golden fillet encased on his forehead. His pole changed designs as well, following the color scheme.

Travis had seen this before, just never on a BOSS.

This was the Berserk skill based on Sun Wukong!

Chapter 135: And Thus, An Awakening

Arrovon casually swung his pole. A humongous force followed tearing the stone floor and slamming into Travis.

Travis slid back, taking a bit of damage. He had a wide grin on his face. This was great! He could test his limits even further! A dark mist extended from his body, his stats skyrocketed to a level he had never seen before. This was [Abyss Release] tied with [Averoth's Lust for Battle]. His stats were now more than fifteen times greater than before.

Such a level was unheard of in the beginning year of A World's Legacy. Since Travis obtained top skills and raised his stats to an abnormally high level, he would be the first. With this alone he stepped into a realm many would fail to.

Travis took a single step, he vanished from sight and reappeared behind Arrovon. This wasn't a skill, but rather Travis' pure speed! After less of a second the sound of him moving could be heard! Travis had broken the sound barrier, his speed was unimaginable!

Arrovon remained unmoving as Travis swung towards his back. A moment before the sword hit Arrovon was in the air three afterimages of his staff was heading towards Travis.

Dang-Booom!

Travis blocked the attacks and the force caused the air to move from the impact. Shattering more of the stone. Arrovon landed and the two were three meters apart, watching the other for any movements.

Then they vanished, periodically sparks was seen appearing throughout the arena.

Flinnder was able to see it, this speed wasn't out of his own range. Both candidates were attacking at incredible speeds as they moved. However most of the attacks were evaded, only some were blocked. Yet there was one important thing to note, they were even.

~ ~ ~

When the two vanished the dev team immediately was shocked. This speed was reached already? One of them quickly ordered, "Adjust the filter!"

A few hurried taps and clicks was heard, then the screen showed the two. The filter simulated having higher stats than the ones they were spectating, so they could see high speed battles without issue.

But for a player to reach such a level already?! What is this?

~ ~ ~

As Arrovon fought something was nagging him. It wasn't the fact that his opponent had reached his strength level, it was what occurred during battle. A strange aura leaked out of his opponent as they battled. It slowly was increasing in volume. Arrovon had ignored such an incident, it didn't affect him much. However he noticed that the strange aura was. . . leeching his strength. The affect was minor, barely any amount. Yet it was growing. . .

Travis was exhilarated, this strength! As he fought he could physically feel himself growing, not in stats but in skill. Every exchange sharpened his reflexes, every dodge attuned his senses. He could feel it all as it flowed through his body.

Arrovon clicked his tongue and thrust his pole skywards. A force of wind pushed Travis back. As Travis slid to a stop he saw a bright golden ball headed his way. Travis cut the ball in half, the two halves passed by his sides and exploded behind him.

Arrovon was annoyed that he attack didn't work and immediately began exchanging blows again. As Travis fought back he spotted an opening and took it. His sword slashed across Arrovon's chest, the same place he slashed before.

Having the wound reopened Arrovon winced, leaving another opening for Travis. Arrovon's chest was slashed horizontally and blood began flowing even more. Gritting his teeth he yelled, "Begone!"

The pole smashed into Travis' face, making his mask shatter and sending him tumbling back. Recovering quickly he looked up to see Arrovon's pole enlarged. Swinging the pole down Arrovon yelled, "[Muteki Ancient Art: Heaven Falls]!"

Travis saw the sheer power behind the move and knew he would be unable to block it. The size of the pole made him unable to dodge, and he couldn't see the opposite side of Arrovon. Making him unable to teleport away.

He grit his teeth and his ring flashed. A standing ghost silhouette stood there. A handsome muscled and scarred man stood crossing his arms. He looked up and saw the falling pillar, a grin spread on his face as he extended a hand up.

Booom~!

Arrovon was shocked, the mysterious man had stopped his ancient art with one hand! The man then said, "One. . ."

Pushing with his hand he sent the pillar upwards he vanished and reappeared in front of Arrovon. Both Travis and Arrovon were shocked, they couldn't see him move!

The figure slammed his fist into the stomach of Arrovon. Causing him to cough blood and slide back, along with dropping his pole. The figure calmly said, "Two. . ."

Gripping his stomach Arrovon looked up to see a foot traveling towards his face. The kick landed and Arrovon did several flips back and slammed into the ground. The figure then said, "Three. . .", and vanished.

The two got up from the floor, their breathing heavy, blood dripping off their body. Yet. . . the began to clash once again.

As Arrovon ran he commanded, "Return U'gur." The pole shrunk and flew into his hand. Then the weapons began to clash. The weapons sparked and flashed. Every swing aimed to take the other's life.

The battle progressed for several minutes, each second made the other more tired. Travis was only able to hold on due to [Averoth's Lust for Battle], for his level wasn't high enough to increase his fatigue bar.

Occasionally they would land a hit on each other, however Travis hit more. Their HP each dropped dangerously low. Their Berserk skills were running out.

Arrovon's golden headband flickered and began to dim, he cursed and began to swing his pole even faster. Travis' dark mist began to retract he similarly began to attack with everything.

Arrovon yelled and stabbed Travis' shoulder. Travis received the blow and thrust his sword into Arrovon's heart. A split second later both their berserk skills ran out, and Arrovon slumped. Travis received a notification that he had killed Arrovon. Immediately his levels began to skyrocket. He had singlehandedly defeated an extremely high level BOSS on his own. So the Exp reward would not be low.

Travis freed his sword and Arrovon fell to the ground unmoving. His own HP was dangerously low, he took a deep breath. He had won.

Schlick-

A pair of claws slipped through Travis' stomach. Immediately his senses were assaulted, his body became numb and nearly fully unresponsive. Travis dropped to his knees to see a crocodile grinning evilly, "Kekeke, I survived your monstrous battles. Now that I have somewhat recovered I stealthily came to finish you off! Since my claws have fully stabbed you the poison will progress much faster than an ordinary cut. I will be the victor here!"

Flinnder nearly got out of his chair, such an underhanded method! This wasn't strength! This wasn't ability! This was pure schemes and lies! This isn't what we wanted!

Yet he calmed himself, he made it clear that the victor would be the chosen one. He wouldn't go back on his word.

Travis was overcome with rage, he had let his guard down! He had failed the basic teachings of Dimitrin! At the most crucial moment, at the very point of his own weakness. He had let his guard down!

Travis' HP dropped to 0.5%. The lowest it has ever been. The crocodile freed its claws and pointed them at Travis' neck, "Tell me, any last words?"

Travis was shaking, was this really it? After everything he obtained he would die by this underhanded plotting crocodile? He wouldn't accept that. Not after all this!

A pressure leaked from Travis, it began to grow exponentially. The crocodile took a step back warily, "What are you-?"

Travis hand grabbed the claws. He clenched and the claws shattered. He shakily stood up, a scary look on his face. The crocodile began to stammer, "Y-you. . . your supposed to be unable to move!"

Travis gripped the crocodiles throat. Try as it might it couldn't seem to free itself, its strength was failing it.

Travis murmured, "I would never fall to the likes of you. . . !"

He gripped his hands and crushed the throat of the crocodile. The once tough scales easily bent. The remaining HP of the crocodile dropped. Travis received the notification for killing the crocodile, so he tossed the body aside. He looked at his hands and gave a weary smile, he had truly won this time. Travis then collapsed.

Flinnder had the widest grin on his face, the ending he wanted. The potential of that candidate. . . no, his champion. It had truly shone bright, he could see it.

He flew over and landed, with a wave of his hand the corpses of the previous two contestants were removed. The arena was repaired. He lifted Travis with a mysterious force and teleported him to a recovery room.

. . .

Travis woke with a start, he was inside a strange room. His sword lied next to him, leaning on the bed. He adjusted himself to his surroundings. Then he looked at his hands, he had won. . .

He clenched his hands in excitement, he had won! All of his efforts have not been wasted! He had succeeded!

Flinnder walked in, "Well, it looks like my Champion had awoken. Tell me, how do you feel?"

Travis responded, "Never felt greater."
