David led me to where a tall, slim woman with blonde hair stood. I suppose she's David's mom. They had the same hair color, only hers were darker blonde. Her eyes were light brown like her sons. He went and kissed her cheek.
"Mom...this is Storm," he said. I pushed my hand out to shake the woman. her smile was heartwarming. Her hands were soft and tender. She smiled at me.
"Nice to meet you, dear. David has told me a lot about you" she huffs and I grin.
"Good things I hope" I smiled. David winked at me and I chuckled. Scott came up behind me and handed me a glass of what I assume is strawberry drink. I rolled my eyes at him. Everyone else gets wine.
"Scott honey. I'm glad you came" Davids's mom hugged Scott but he just stood there like a statue. The good thing is the woman still kept hugging him and showing him, love. David pulled me aside.
"I got to show you my study room," he said with smiles.
"Storm is staying with me" Scott objected. I stare at his now stony face and his eyes weren't even on me but on David whom he was throwing daggers at.
"Oh loosen up you two" David's mom chimes. "Such bad energy is not good for the skin"
"Normal people worry about that" Scott scowled and started leading me away. I shoved his hand away.
"What's that all about? You promised me tonight won't go like this"I frown making him sigh.
"Scott...your mom is asking about you" Davids's mom placed a kiss on his cheek before turning to me. "I hope to talk with you before you leave, without my nephew around, of course" she smiles and I nod.
"Thank you um..."
"Call me Danielle, honey" she smiled and walked away.
Scott has such a wonderful family so why is he always so grumpy about them or many other things like why before every, firework there has to be a couple kissing.
"Cherry nuts?" David pushed a plate of good-looking nuts in front of me. He knows I can't say no to that. I grinned taking one and biting out of it.
"It's marvelous" I moan in pure delight. I caught Scott staring at me intensely as I slipped the nuts into my mouth. He was watching my every move and I found it fun to tease him.
"Don't get too much though." David chuckled. "Oh...Scott!" He pointed behind me and a dark-haired older woman came to us.
"Scott. You're here" she said, trying to kiss his cheek but he pulled away before her lips could touch him.
"Aunt Grace" David greeted the woman with a hug. This woman is Scott's mom then and he was being so cold.
"Good evening," I said at once with a smile.
"Oh hello," she smiled back.
"This is Stormy. My friend" David introduced. Scott was silent the whole time with his eyes plastered to the glass of drink in my hand.
"Oh very nice to meet you. Any friend of the family is family" she smiled hugging me. We pulled apart turning to her son. I can see how Scott is so fine. The woman is graceful. And pretty with fine eyes.
"Good to see you son. You rarely come home" she scolds and Scott rolls his eyes.
"I know" was his short reply.
"We'll excuse you both" David said taking my hand and leading me away. I found Scott's eyes and he was staring at me. I and David found ourselves at a table. Finally, I could rest my butt.
"You look pretty," David said suddenly. "White sure suits you" he smiles.
"You look good too in the buttoned-up shirt" I chuckled and he pouted.
"Sure...whatever," he said sipping his wine. I want to have some of that not strawberry drink. I looked over to where Scott and his mom were standing but they were gone. I looked at David.
"What's up with Scott," I said folding my arms. "He doesn't seem to like his family much"
"He adores his sister...even though he never shows it," David says. I didn't know Scott has a sister. I'm sure she's pretty like him with great blue eyes.
"Oh," I mouthed. I grabbed a flute from a moving tray and smiled at my triumph.
"He has a complicated past," David said looking thoughtful.
I want to ask him how complicated? Cause I'm suddenly curious as to why Scott is the way he is. I'm curious as to why anytime, a love song pops up, he changes the radio in his car. As to why he doesn't talk about his family.
"I see" I mumbled under my breath. I have so many questions but don't want to dump them on David like that. Anyways, I don't want to ruin the party. Everything is so pretty and well organized. The food was perfect and everyone was friendly and in all smiles. Except for Scott that is.
"So you guys are together huh?" David surprises me by saying and I choke on my wine.
"What? Um, no" I scoff. He zeroes his eyes on me before nodding and looking away so I decide to change the subject.
"Your mom sure knows how to throw a garden party" I smile at David.
"She loves this kind of stuff" he shrugs. The sound of a spoon hitting against a glass turned everyone's attention to the front. Out front was Danielle standing by a tall man I'm assuming is her husband. She waved her hands toward us and it took me a moment to realize she was calling out to her son.
"I'll be back" David whispered before running off to join his parents. Once more, I'm left wondering where Scott is. I'm beginning to miss his presence. I stared around the garden at the unknown but pleasant faces.
"Thank you all for being here tonight...as you all know, I was promoted to manager at my work and....." Danielle went on with a smirk when we all knew she's the boss of her work.
Warm hands moved around my waist and I jumped away with shock.
"Relax" came Scott's voice behind me. He pulled me to his chest and rested his chin on my head. "I missed you," he said.
"You were only gone for like....five minutes" I giggle.
"I know" Scott smiled. "What's that?" He pointed to the flute in front of me and I frowned.
"I wanted to have a glass of champagne. This is a celebration" I say and Scott sigh.
"Stubborn thing" he murmured but I heard him so I chuckled. Danielle finished her speech and I heard Scott murmur something about it being long and boring.
I nudged his shoulder when a raven-haired girl with blue eyes joined us.
"Hi" she smiled at me and I returned the gesture. I keep meeting people. Maybe I'll bump into Scott's dad next. "I'm Valerie. You can call me Val. Scott's sister"
