Chapter 2: Starting A New Life!
Right after Haru came to, he immediately moved his body into a sitting posture, his hands tightly gripping the edge of his blanket. It seemed like he was sitting on a mattress. He then looked at the unfamiliar room with a wide-eyed, dumbfounded look.
It was an ordinary room with a cabinet, a study table, a shelf filled with paraphernalia, and several posters glued on the walls.
"I'm in an unfamiliar room. I suppose I really died and got a second chance, huh?" Haru muttered under his breath.
In truth, his death felt unreal: it felt like a dream. But, the unfamiliar room and the memory in the abyss smacked him with the reality of his situation; he couldn't deny the unscientific circumstance that had occurred.
"Now, what?" Haru faintly wondered in confusion; he sat there while dazedly looking at the empty space.
Out of the blue, new memory came forth. Haru felt an intense headache from the mental strain; he held his head and gritted his teeth to endure the pain.
Haru wanted to scream, but his fear of gathering unneeded attention had stopped him from doing so. His breath had become short and rough; sweats covered his forehead and cheeks. It was agonizing, yet he preserved. After indeterminable time passed, the pain finally subsided.
"I-I see," Haru muttered in understanding, "So, I replaced someone called Haruka Kasugano."
Haru paused for a moment; he felt that his new identity was familiar, somehow. He had his doubts; therefore, he checked his old and new memories.
"Ah, so it's like that. No wonder the name sounds familiar. I really did replace Haruka from Yosuga no Sora."
Haru knew about a character called Haruka Kasugano because he had watched the anime adaptation of Yosuga no Sora in his past life. He never played the game, though.
"However, this world doesn't seem to be the world of Yosuga no Sora. In fact, this world seems like a world of many slice-of-life, rom-com, and school-life series mixed together."
Haru made his conjunction based on his new memory. In the first place, Haruka Kasugano supposed to have one sister, his fraternal twin sister, Sora. However, Haru found that he had a stepsister one year younger than him. Suzuka was the name of his stepsister.
"Purple hair and blue eyes, I bet she's the counterpart of Suzuka Nagami from Imo-Imo," Haru assumed.
Imo-Imo was the abbreviation of Ore ga Suki Nano wa Imouto Dakedo Imouto Janai; it was one of "Little Sister Moe"-themed light novels that Haru had read in his past life.
"An alternate world that I will surely enjoy, huh?"
Haru made a complicated expression; he felt happy to be reincarnated in such a world, but he was still angry at the god that turned him into a test subject and killed him without his consent. In the end, Haru dropped off the matter and focused on something important.
"That god said that I would get a system, right? How can I be sure if I really get a system or not? There's nothing like a boot-up screen appearing out of nowhere in my vision. Did he lie?"
Haru wondered whether he really got a system or not. After thinking a little, he tried something according to novels and fanfiction that he read in his past life.
"Let's see, er, Status?"
Thankfully, something did happen right after Haru said the magic keyword; a rectangular green screen popped up in his field of vision.
"It's really here!" Haru exclaimed in excitement.
Then, he inspected his Status Board.

"This is," Haru was taken aback by the content of his Status Board, "Is there a help function that can give me an explanation about my status attributes?" He wondered, holding some expectations.
In those fantasy novels and fanfiction, such systems would often explain their mechanism after the initial activation. It was something that Haru waited to happen.
After waiting for a while, nothing occurred; Haru dropped off his expectation. He pondered how he could understand the system's mechanism and then recalled something from "System"-themed novels and fanfiction that he had read in his past life.
Following his meta knowledge, Haru used his Appraisal ability on his Status Board.

It is a conceptual divine artifact that merged with the possessor's existence. It displays the quantified value of the possessor's specs and other things.

Haru pondered for a little before doing just that.

It is one of the attributes of the Status Board, which contains the System's Holder's Job, Job's Level, and EXP.
Job is an attribute that will affect the development of the System's Holder as they grow stronger. Job's exclusive abilities will get unlocked after the Job reached a specific level.
The Equipped Job is 'Protagonist,' which is a special and unique Job in the limitless Multiverse. Anyone who has 'Protagonist' Job is said to be favored by the origin of everything, liked by fate, loved by destiny, and spoiled by luck.
Level is an attribute that shows the development value of a specific concept; in this case, it is the Job attribute.
EXP, which is the abbreviation of experience points, is an attribute that gauges how far is the System's Holder from reaching the next stage of development. System's Holder will receive EXP after completing tasks, passing trials, or defeating enemies.

An abbreviation of Statistics; it is one of the attributes of the Status Board, which contains the five statistics of the System's Holder.
STR, which is the abbreviation of 'Strength,' governs over the physical power and durability.
VIT, which is the abbreviation of 'Vitality,' governs over the total stamina, the speed of stamina recovery, and the rate of natural healing.
DEX, which is the abbreviation of 'Dexterity,' governs over the hand-eye coordination and control over motor function.
INT, which is the abbreviation of 'Intelligence,' governs over the capacity and capability of the mind, as well as other mental specs.
MAG, which is the abbreviation of 'Magic,' governs over the potential, capacity, reserve, and quality of the magic. One needs equal or higher INT stat to have excellent control over the magic power. As of now, until a specific Job is unlocked, this stat is locked.
Additional Note: The value of 1 stat point is equal with the capacity and capability of an ordinary male human in his prime.

"Well, it's such a shame that my MAG attribute is still locked," Haru remarked after appraising Status Board's attributes.
After dismissing the appraisal's screen, Haru turned his attention to Notable Abilities. He already had four abilities listed on there. Other than Enhanced Memory, he was curious about the rest.
'Well, I can guess about Item Box and Appraisal. They are the staple skills in Fantasy stories with system and RPG elements, though I don't know their limits. Then, this Mysterious Lottery, honestly, it sounds like a Gacha feature…'
Gacha or Lottery usually designated as one of the system's features. But, the Status Board displayed it as an ability, and it piqued Haru's interest.
As Haru appraised his first ability, a new screen popped up, displaying the detail of Enhanced Memory.

It is an ability to remember and recall experiences and events well.

Haru always knew that he had a gift of a good memory. It's not wrong to say that he had a photographic/eidetic memory. However, he kept his talent as a secret; he didn't want to stand out and got bullied by jealous orphans. Everyone else only knew that he had a good memory.
Haru's childhood was harsh, but he had a better life after becoming a part-timer in an internet cafe.
Putting Haru's past aside, Haru dismissed the screen and then appraised his other abilities one by one.

It is an ability that gives the System's Holder access to an exclusive alternate dimension with endless space. There are no weight limits. Time inside this alternate dimension stops. It can even keep lifeforms in stasis.

A mysterious ability that gives the System's Holder a random thing, from useless garbage to divine artifacts, from trash skills to overpowered skills, and even unique, alien lifeforms. It's up to the luck of the System's Holder. The cooldown period is 100 hours.

It is an ability that can give information about the target. It can even analyze the target's feelings and surface thoughts.

'Well, those are good abilities to have… I suppose.' Haru paused for a little and began pondering his next action.
When Haru looked at a desktop clock, it displayed 9.55 AM. He then turned his attention to his Mysterious Lottery ability and silently wondered, 'Perhaps, I can try it out?'
