Chapter 9: Chapter 8: Over-performance
*Rumbles*
As the explosion occurred it was followed by the formation of the rift, it started to gradually expand.
Rifts are divided in to 7 ranks which are F, E, D, C, B, A, and S arranged in an ascending order.
This time, it had been detected that the rift that was about to form is an A rank rift.
"Tsk" Akio clicked his tongue due to the situation.
He observed the surrounding and found that the audiences were evacuating, there were teachers that took charge and led the students out of the arena.
From a distance he found Jill who was severely injured and unconscious.
{Ayane, I allow the usage of [Grim Reaper]} Akio said to Ayane through telepathy.
{Really!? Got it!} she cheerfully replied.
After relaying his message to his sister, Akio deactivated the sentinel gear and summoned [Clown]
In an instant, the gear colored with black and red appeared.
Seeing that the rift had already finished forming, Akio overloaded [Clown] with mana allowing him to fully control and move instantaneously.
Normally, gears aren't able to take being overloaded and would end up being destroyed after one use, however, [Clown] was different as it was indestructible due to [Jester's Suit].
Akio moved towards Jill and grabbed her, he then found Yuria from a distance so he used mana to move again and instantly arrived near her.
Yuria was taking charge and were instructing the students to evacuate when Akio appeared which surprised her.
"Teach, please take her to safety and tend to her injuries" he said as he handed the unconscious Jill.
"Hu-, wait, where are you going? All students are to evacuate!" Yuria said as she took Jill.
Akio had forcefully deactivated Jill's gear so Yuria had no trouble carrying her.
He ignored Yuria's remark and moved towards the location of the rift, as he moved, a colossal monster slowly got out from the rift.
The entities that came out from rifts varied, it could be a swarm of monsters or a single monster that had the strength of a swarm, an A rank rift were known to hold monsters that are classed as Behemoths, these monsters are able to raze a continent to the ground, and these monsters were named as "Reapers"
This time, what had appeared was a Behemoth, it was a huge snake with its body being made of a crystal like material, it was colored green.
Yuria saw the monster and was gravely alerted, she tried to warn Akio again.
"Stop! That's not something a mere student can take down!" she desperately shouted.
Ayane appeared behind Yuria and tapped her shoulder.
Feeling a tap from behind her, Yuria turned her head and saw Ayane.
"Sensei, you should evacuate, leave this to brother" she said as she smiled.
"However-" Yuria was about to say something but was interrupted.
*Shatters*
The ceiling of the arena which was made of glass was suddenly shattered, Yuria was surprised and looked towards it.
A group of people wearing gears entered from the ceiling and started to descend, there was a familiar face among them, it was Hitsuki Amane, the student council president.
Amane observed the situation and found 4 people that was still in the arena.
She saw Akio that was in his gear and is planning to face the behemoth.
"Student! Get away from that we'll handle it!" she stated as she landed on the ground.
The group was the elite squad usually tasked to deal with problems that occurs within the island, currently they were tasked to hold off the behemoth until reinforcement arrives.
Akio had sensed their presence and also heard what Amane said but pretended not to hear.
He summoned both his gun and sword, he charged to attack the behemoth.
Amane saw him charging and thought that he didn't hear her words, she commanded the group to surround that behemoth, she then accelerated and tried to catch up.
"Stop!" she said as she was about to reach Akio.
Akio knew that Amane was about to reach him so he accelerated.
"W-Wait!" she called out but Akio kept accelerating.
She tried to catch up once again by accelerating however she failed to catch up as her gear was only a 6th generation gear with all its functions being rank A.
As Akio used acceleration he quickly reached the behemoth, as he was about to reach it, he leaped and used his sword to slash it, his target was the area where the core of the monster is contained which is its forehead.
Amane was astonished by Akio's speed but hid it, as she saw Akio quickly reaching the monster's forehead she expected that he could at least do some damage to it but was greatly disappointed to see that Akio's slash did nothing.
Reapers had a core and its location varied for each type however all of them had the same trait, while their core was extremely fragile their body were extremely tough that no normal weapon is able to damage it, gears along with their weapons and ammunition were made of the reapers' body so it was possible to retaliate.
Amane thought that Akio's sword was only made of a normal material as it did no damage.
In truth, when Akio had slashed the behemoth, his sword passed through it, [The Fool's Sword] considered the core as something that was "alive" but considered the behemoth's body as an unliving object.
Although in the eyes of the others, it was as though Akio's attack did nothing to the behemoth, within Akio's sight he could see a rupture that directly exposed the core had appeared at the place that he had slashed at.
*Growwwwwllllll*
The behemoth had sensed danger and growled as it tried to attack with its tail, but before it could attack, Akio aimed the gun towards the core and fired.
*Bang!*
The gunshot resounded and a hole was made to the core.
*Crash*
Having its core broken, the behemoth's eyes turned lifeless and its body fell to the ground causing the ground to shake.
Amane was about to command the group but stopped when she saw the giant reaper collapsing after she had heard a gunshot.
"Eh?" she gasped.
'What happened!?' she wondered as she found the scene being unbelievable.
Akio landed on the ground as he retracted his gun and sword then deactivated [Clown]
Ayane by the side who was already wearing [Grim Reaper] flew towards her brother, she had wanted to attack the behemoth but was unable to as Akio finished the battle quickly.
"Brother! Why did you have to finish it so quickly!?" she complained as she deactivated [Grim Reaper].
"Couldn't have it rampaging and destroying everything, right?" Akio explained.
"No fun" she pouted.
Akio placed his hand to her head and patted Ayane to console her, Ayane's mood instantly brightened as she giggled.
Amane saw their exchanges and interrupted with a cough.
"*Ahem*, Nice to meet you, I'm the student council president, Hitsuki Amane" she introduced as she deactivated her gear and walked closer.
The twins looked at her then replied.
"Asahiro Akio from 1-C" Akio introduced.
"Asahiro Ayane from 1-A" Ayane followed.
Amane noticed the twin acting normal in front of her but didn't mind it and asked.
"Akio-san, you don't mind if I call you that right? How did you defeat it?" she asked towards Akio as she pointed at the dead behemoth.
"That....I can't tell you" he replied.
"I see, that's too bad" she said and didn't ask any further.
Amane was curious as to how Akio had defeated the behemoth with only 2 attacks but knew not to pry if the person doesn't want to say anything, she sighed and spoke again.
"We'll handle the rest here, please go ahead and rest" she said.
"Thanks" Akio replied.
The twins headed out of the arena.
Amane took note of the twins and proceeded to instruct the squad, she called off the reinforcement saying that the situation has been resolved.
