Chapter 41: Stardust then Rain Pack

The room was lit with tea lights and candles. An incense wove a soft fog throughout the air in the room.

"Welcome, I'm Alpha Pax." He shook my hand then Rex's, one after the other. "Please be seated."

We sit on large, soft pillows on the floor. Slowly the Alpha pours hot water, from a kettle, into a porcelain cup.

"Would you like some tea? It's Chamomile." He smiles.

"No, thanks." Rex says immediately as I respond, "Yes, please!"

We eye each other then laugh aloud.

"Your laughter is melodic. It's like you two are in sync."

Color fills my cheeks and I get to business. "What is our purpose for meeting today?"

"Well," he begins, his voice is slow and baritone, it's actually very relaxing. "I challenged you so I could combine packs."

*Damn, more mouths to feed.* Rex says in my mind.

*If I could kick you under the table, I would. You're lucky we're cross legged on pillows!*

"Alpha Pax, if you win you still wouldn't gain our pack." I say quickly.

"I intend to lose." He says simply. "We are a small pack, a dying breed. We want peace in a world that no longer accepts the calm. It embraces chaos and surrounds the hearts of others with it. We have searched far and wide for a solution. Our seer says our salvation starts with your pack."

Rex sat with his mouth open wide. I must've looked the same because my jaw clicks as I snap my mouth shut.

"You can't just lose to me." I scoff.

"I know how to put on a show." He winked at me. "On my honor, as an Alpha, once we shake hands, I will yield to you in The Dome."

I noticed then his age. He must've been in his upper fifties or older. The wrinkles that line his face are engraved.

"What about your heir?" Rex interrupts my silent observations.

"We never had a child. Our line ends with us." His voice was melancholy.

"You have an accord." I shake his hand.

He pulls me in to whisper, "Congratulations."

I'm sure Rex can hear him and anger flickers through my eyes. He releases my hand and I act confused.

"For what?" Rex says, pulling me back toward him.

"You'll know when the time is right."

"When will that be?"

"Soon enough."

As we walked back to our room, Rex stopped me.

"That old fart was super cryptic don't you think."

"Oh yeah, for sure!" I laugh but it comes out a falsetto.

"Are you alright?" Rex's grip tightens on my hand.

"Yes, why wouldn't I be?" I tug my hand away to open the door.

"You just seem off is all." He paused. "You weren't surprised by his comment?"

"Oh I was." I assure him and myself. "I just think he's a crazy old bat who wants to do right by his pack."

"Okay." Rex lets it go.

"I've got to run babe, the meeting with Rain Pack is soon." I give him a kiss on his cheek.

Rex smiles at me before pulling me in for a kiss on the lips. When we release I'm breathless and my lips are slick.

"What was that for?" I smile sheepishly at him.

"I love you Regina." His eyes are so silver they have a shine to them.

"I love you Rex." My cheeks hurt from my wide grin but I don't care. "I'll be back soon enough."

When I made my way toward the meeting, I couldn't help but touch my lips. They were sore from our contact. Damn that wolf knows how to kiss.

I see the Beta outside the mansion they were staying in. She is tall and lean. Her blonde hair curled like waves down to her backside. She didn't give me a second glance.

"Follow me."

I was led straight to Indicum's office. She knocked once and entered.

Indicum is seated behind a large dark wood desk. Mahogany maybe? Rex would know...

"Thanks Casia." She gave him a look I knew to be lust.

"Of course, Alpha." She said the last word with a flick of her tongue.

Indicum's eyes were hooded. I was starting to feel awkwardly stuck between two lovers...then Praesul growled. Oh shit! I forgot Indicum is one of our mates.

"Did you invite me here to watch you two eye fuck each other?" Praesul snaps.

Casia scurries from the room with her head bowed in shame. Indicum's eyes flicker with something that I swear looks like amusement.

"Long time no see Regina or should I say, Praesul."

Childhood memories flooded back to me. We were good friends, once upon a time.

"I won't apologize for you wasting our time." Praesul shrugged giving power back to me.

"Ah, there's the infamous Gin. Let's talk alliance then victory rewards." He looked at a document before him. Something I had agreed to when his father was Alpha.

"I like our terms of an alliance." He began, slowly raising his eyes to meet hers. "I don't like that you're a female Alpha making ripples in the water. That's why I'm going to show you, in front of all of the other Alphas, where you belong."

*Did he just threaten us?* Praesul huffed, fighting to take over.

I laughed. A genuine gut clenching laugh. His eyebrows furrowed and he looked angry.

"What's so funny?"

"You! What? Are you from the 18th century? I can't wait for our shot in The Dome. I'm going to show everyone just how small minded and petty you really are."

"Then let's talk terms." He sneered.

"When I win, I want you to give me your collection."

His eyes flickered from dark blue to midnight blue, almost black. Clearly he's surprised I remember and equally upset by my boldness.

"Never." He says, trying to keep his voice steady.

"I'd say you're getting the better end of the deal." I laugh. "You can have your land back if you win."

"I don't want land."

"Then what do you want?"

"I want your first born pup."

"What in the hell Rumpelstiltskin?"

"Only joking love. I want your Seer."

"On loan? There's no way in hell you'd get her."

"I'm very close with the Challenge Coordinator and the Elder Alphas...."

"I'm mated to the most dangerous and deadly Alpha."

"Touché."

"Check mate."

"Do you believe in luck?"

"No."

"Well, I was going to suggest we let the fates decide."

Internal groan. Not the fates.

*Do it!* Praesul chimes in.

*Where have you been all this time? And why the fates?*

*The fates brought you Niveus, they're on your side! Plus I was making sure the pup wasn't going to make you puke. He's pretty nauseous right now.*

"Fine." I concede.

"Deals done. Now get out of my study so I can fuck Casia."

"Gross!" I quickly leave before Praesul can get depressed by that comment. Once outside, I vomit soundlessly into the bushes.
