Never would you have thought, that a parent could be so cold to their own offspring. Inevitably, I was about to find out.
As we pulled into the driveway of our home, my sad existence became more noticeable. Not one person had spoken the whole ride home. The atmosphere was also so thick, and it felt like fog. My head felt fuzzy, and I was still in a daze. I didn't understand what was happening to me.
My family had gotten out of the car and quickly put my little brother inside. My father ripped me out of the car by my hair after the front door was shut. He began to yell in my face while holding me up by my hair, "Listen here, you stupid insignificant thorn! Do you know how much freaking trouble you caused us? How much freaking money cost us as well? Do you thorn? You're nothing, but an unfortunate mistake. You should have been born a boy." All I could do was cry. Feeling strands of my hair, now being pulled out from my head. I had discovered a newfound fear, of my father. Lynn noticed he was hurting me, and jump into save me. Little did she know, she was about to take the beating of a lifetime for me.
Lynn screamed, "It's not Rose's fault! Put her down!" at the top of her lungs. He had dropped me. More like threw my little body on the ground. Trembling I had tried to crawl to her. She was reaching down to pick me up, when he snatched her up instead. She gasped hard in shock as he shook her. He grabbed a fist full of the front her shirt and pulled her in as he punched her in the stomach. She fell right next to me huffing in agony, and then he kicked her in the back on top of me after. We cried so hard holding each other. She never let me go that night.
Lynn would whisper to me, that I wasn't a mistake or a thorn. As she caressed my little face and brush my hair back, I finally started to drift to sleep in her arms that night. She told me, "we will always be okay, as long as we have each other". Whenever Emmett snuck back into the house that night after working with the neighbor, he saw that I was finally back home. Sadly he noticed that both of us were covered in bruises right away. Even though he was now furious, he did not disturb his sleeping sisters and slipped under the bed to rest.
The next morning, Emmett slid out from underneath the bed, and woke us up for school. He gave Lynn the money to take care of us, kissed our foreheads, and snuck back out the window before any one knew he was there. See, Emmett was now 18, and father said he is no longer allowed to live with us because he is an adult now, so we hid him. Now Lynn quickly squirreled the money away, and hurry up to get us ready for school. Rushing around so early, we tried not to wake up James. "Prince James", Lynn snickered as she rolled her eyes, I couldn't help but giggle. She looked puzzled, not realizing I could hear her. Scooping me up in her arms, we headed out the door and carried me to the bus stop.
when the bus arrived, she placed me on the ground and gave my backpack a gentle push. Sighing drastically she said, "try and make the best of it, Rose". I smiled awkwardly, and timidly got on the bus.
