Chapter 6: Tricks
Thinking about how Javier got an instant tour guide out of Veta's kindness, the other three were all thinking of ways to earn Veta's graces.
Walking back to his seat, Javier looked extremely shy, but if one looked more closely, he's just suppressing an evil smile directed at his competitors. While his other classmates didn't notice this, the three boys were extremely observant of their competitors as they gasped when they saw this minute detail.
'Too tricky! He planned to act like this from the beginning!' the three boys thought in their heads. When they thought about this, they also planned on their heads. Hmmph! Take advantage of Veta's kindness? Let's see who'll win.
After the introduction portion, Teacher Morgan left the students to mingle with each other and to familiarize with the whole class. After all, its the first day of school. Some students started talking to their old friends while some went out to tour the school.
The four boys, however, talked to their classmates instead of directly talking to Veta. Their motives was obviously to gather information.
A few kind students offered their friendship and help to Javier, in which he kindly accepted. He then got his own circle, and while conversing with them, he'll have a few subtle questions about Veta that the others didn't even notice, and they answered happily.
"Javier, are you really the heir to Hacienda Tri Viesti? That's so cool!" A frail boy praised Javier, with sparkles in his eyes. Not all students of Novaculite Regional School are rich, some are only students with poor background but are talented and geniuses and was accepted to the school due to this.
"Yes. But I cannot compare to Veta. Her family controls several industries under her name. Besides being rich, she's also talented and kind. Does she ever have a flaw?" Javier said meekly, trying to be humble as he could, giving Veta praises.
"The goddess of course does not have a flaw. She won't be the school goddess without these qualities," and the boy started narrating Veta's history.
A few aspiring journalists and writers got the chance to have a conversation with Reon who was seated next to Valeir's group of friends. Although Reon acted snobbish, Valeir talked for him, boasting about Reon's achievements and awards, boosting Reon's reputation within the class. The cousins then asked about how the others' Junior High School life was in Novaculite Regional School. This includes Veta's life.
"Reon is really a reputable writer, with one of his creations even the goddess' favorite. His Junior High School life was dedicated to his passion for writing, and even the headmaster of his previous school conceeded to his every whim, just to make sure that he continues to write those beautiful stories," Valeir boasted, as Reon's pedestal was assigned to be raised by her.
"Hey guys, how was your Junior High School life here? Tell us about it," Fers, a friend of Valeir and also one of the transferees in Valeir's circle, asked.
"It was so colorful, especially with the goddess around. This fella here was a classmate of the goddess since Grade 7! He's really lucky, blessed to be of the same section as the school goddess. The goddess was still a revered student without a proper title by then, and he received numerous raw blessings from the goddess. Truly lucky!" A certain someone said as he moved a little closer to Valeir, totally unconcerned about Reon but only cared about Valeir.
Kenji was smiling mischievously in his own chair, with the Music Club President as his classmate, the sweaty president became his spokesperson, talking about how good his musical talents are. Some who saw his performances in the internet gave their praises and admiration to his innate talent. While this happened, Kenji also boasted about how he will have a chance to sing with Veta next week. This earned the listeners excitement as they wanted nothing more in the world than to hear their goddess sing.
"You're super talented, Kenji! I watched your latest video, totes man. I instantly became a fan because of your voice!" An obvious fanboy praised.
"Hey, I'll be having a duet with Veta next week. Want to take the front seat?" Kenji offered as he flashed his signature naughty smile. The others who heard this was rather ecstatic. Their idol invited them personally! And their goddess would sing with him! Now that would be a beholding sight!
Hein, on the other hand, twitched his lips as he saw this unravelling right before his eyes. He's confused. Really.
'This is not part of the script! Ain't you guys have to surround Veta and quarrel in front of her to decide who can talk? Why are you leaving the goddess all alone with those trio?!' Hein shouted in his mind. He don't really understand.
"Hein, if you kept this up, you'll lose before you can even move," as he heard this voice, he looked towards Eirein, his cousin.
"What are you talking about, E? Isn't it just getting Veta's attention and admiration?" Hein asked, clueless about what Eirein was talking about.
Eirein sighed as she knew that this would happen. She was specifically deployed in this school four years ago just to collect data and to help Hein in gaining a foothold in this school when the time comes.
The Pretium family knew Hein very well. He has a straightforward character. Once he likes someone, he'll be hell-bent on winning that someone's notice. A live example is Veta. And when he dislikes someone, he'll grit his teeth and blatantly show his hostility, especially to Kenji.
So they sent an undercover within the school, planted a few years before Hein's arrival, expected to be of assistance to the straightforward man.
"As you can see, Hein, it's not just the battle of charms and talents, it's also the battle of wits. Before you make your move, I'll enlighten you about things you need to take note of," Eirein said as she led Hein to the bridge that separates the main campus and the series of food stalls and school supplies stores.
"Here are all the data I gathered for the four years I stayed here," Eirein said and pointed at a few people that walked in and out of the stores at the other side of the bridge.
"In Novaculite Regional School, there is a social hierarchy in which every student respects. Titles were not easy to acquire. And there were only a few titles available, such as the Queen of News and the King of Leadership," Eirein smiled cheekily, as she acquired what was told to be impossible to get, the Queen of News.
