The five Russians and their prisoner had made good time travelling to Owhiro Bay. The weather had dried the track considerably, and the moonlight enabled the six men to navigate their way safely over Brooklyn Hill. Dick needed a little prompting every now and then, and Harper, who was tired of this bothersome constable, did not hesitate to give him the occasional shove or a cuff across the back of his already tender head. Robert called a halt as they approached the first outlying cottages of Owhiro Bay, and decided that they would wait in the bush, hidden, until it was time to head to the beach for their pick-up. Robert was cautious, hiding in the bush was precautionary, and he wasn't going to take any unnecessary risks. His men were tired and Harper was losing patience with the constable. Resting for a while would do them no harm.
