Andrew was remembering the good times he and Ngaiti enjoyed aboard ship. The vigorous debates they had won and lost. The laughs they shared and closeness they felt, almost like brothers. Even Ellie had taken to Ngaiti quickly and treated him like a sibling. Andrew smiled at the recollection of seeing the surprise on Ngaiti"s face when Eleanor had cautioned him on his table manners. His smile quickly vanished as strong arms grabbed him from behind and held him fast. He dropped the lantern and heard it shatter on the ground, a blinding flash of light accompanying his pain. Everything went black.
"Cor, he"s bloody heavy," said one.
"Just pick "im up," replied the other
"I ain"t picking "im up, just drag him. Grab an arm, will ya," cried the first.
With an arm each, the two men dragged the unconscious body off the track towards the stony beach. Andrew"s extra weight made the task more arduous.
