Because there was stillness in the Crosspath, the emptying of the hourglass triggering, not an explosion (my first worry), or a bright light (okay, so the Heaven thing wasn't out of the literal realm of possibility and the Angels did have that stupid prophecy of theirs), or even a booming voice declaring now was the time for war (sure, that one sourced from too many video games, but my brain wasn't working completely correctly, so cut me some slack).
