"Okay, so good news and bad news - Dragon's mother decided she didn't want her son dating a murderer, so she broke off the engagement."
"Wow," Zephyr said, her eyebrows lifting. "So you don't have to marry him? That's great, Liss. What's the bad news?"
"Well, that is the bad news. According to Ismene, anyway."
"That doesn't count! What about Nereus?"
Lysandra shrugged. "Well, on one of the days when I had to meet with Remiel and his family, he basically asked me to run away with him. I said no."
"Oh Saints!" Zephyr exclaimed, her hands flying up to cover her mouth. "You turned him down? How could you!"
"I had made a deal with Ismene," Lysandra said, dropping her voice. "If I went to the meetings with the Collingwoods, she'd let me out of the house during the day."
"That's horrible," Zephyr said, slamming her hand down on the table. Lysandra's fork jumped up from her plate. "That's like - like prison." Her hand flew to her mouth. "Damn, I'm sorry! I didn't mean that."
