An ash wand is any wand that is crafted out of wood from an ash tree. More specifically, an ash wand is any wand that has an ash shaft, an ash handle, or both.
Ash Trees
Ash trees have the folk names: Widow Maker (due to the danger of large branches falling on people), Nion, Asktroed, Jasen Bell, and Freixo.
For many millennia, wand makers have made magic wands from the wood of numerous species of ash trees. European wand makers have favored European ash (Fraxinus excelsior), whereas North American wand makers often prefer to work in White ash (F. americana) or Green ash (F. pennsylvanica). Oriental wand makers often use Chinese ash (F. chininsus), Japanese ash (F. japonica), or Manchurian ash (F. mandschurica).
