A phoenix wand is any wand that has a small phoenix feather, a sliver of a phoenix's talon, or a small amount of phoenix ash in its core.

The phoenix is a very rare mystical bird roughly the size of a large hawk or small eagle. Very long lived, an aged dying phoenix will burst into flames, only to be reborn from its ashes as a young chick. Widely regarded as the most beautiful of birds, the phoenix has feathers the color of fire: yellow, orange, red, and gold. The most regal and exceptional of phoenixes will also have purple feathers on their heads and necks, causing such birds to be called "the royal bird" and "the purple one". The phoenix's ability to be reborn from the ashes of its funeral pyre has led it to become a symbol for immortality and rebirth.
