Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Only One Wand to Begin

If there is no perfect wand, then clearly different wands will be better for different spells. And just as logically it follows that a witch or wizard would be wise to have a range of wands so that the best wand for the spell can be chosen. And all of this is true.

However, all schools of witchcraft and wizardry follow this basic rule: First year students are permitted to possess only a single standard first year's wand. Some of you might think this rule unfair. After all, fifth year students are permitted to have two wands and once you graduate, you can have as many wands as you can make or buy. Every year, there are a few students who bring more than one wand to school. Others plan to buy a second wand, either from older students or while on weekend visits to the local wand shop. You might think that this will give you an advantage over your fellow classmates, and yet you would be wrong to think so.
