Chapter 38: Special - Hide and Seek with Prince Chaker
This story happened sometime after Lady Amy received the Empress Flower from Prince Chaker.
It was a beautiful day for Prince Horus. He had woken up after an almost-deep sleep, since he always had one eye open, in case someone came to kill him. Basic prince stuff 1-0-1.
He hadn't slept this well for a long time with everything going on, as well as his worries growing ever bigger. How did Lady Amy manage to be so intelligent, but SO STUPID at the same time? This held him up several nights, whenever she had managed to do something new that took him by surprise and hit a new low.
Having been serviced and made ready for the day by the servants, he finally got the day started. But who was the first person he saw? Yes, the cause of his current headaches, none other than his dear fiancé, Lady Amy.
She was standing a bit far away from him, behind one of the big palace poles, reaching from the very ceiling to the floor. 'What was she up to now?' he wondered with a sigh that had become pretty much a trademark for him after he met her.
Not long after, another figure came into view. His brother walked by the pole Lady Amy had been behind not long ago. But where was she now?
Prince Horus decided it didn't matter and went on with his day. For now, out of sight, out of mind, was his new strategy to keep a calm mind, that had been so severely disrupted when he had decided to take a tornado for a marriage partner.
However, thinking about Lady Amy and her crazy behavior always did manage to make way for a little smile on his stoic Prince Face. Not that he would admit it, if it was being pointed out.
Later that day, Prince Horus had just finished his sword lessons, but who did he go by? A Lady Amy that was now underneath a staircase. 'Whatever is she doing NOW?' He thought, but decided it was best to ignore her.
After walking past her, pretending not to see her, he ran into Prince Chaker.
"Greetings to my brother, the prince, sunshine of the empire" Prince Horus said in a calm manner as they were close enough to hear each other.
"Greetings to my brother, the prince, sunshine of the empire" Prince Chaker echoed as he went past him.
'I do not think I have spoken this much with my brother for days…' Prince Horus thought as he went on.
However, he had begun to notice a pattern. If there was a Lady Amy, a Prince Chaker was most likely near-by.
And true enough, as he finished up his paperwork and went outside to take a break, there was a Lady Amy hiding behind the bushes, with a Prince Chaker looking around searchingly.
And there she was again, following along the rolling tray a butler was pushing forward, with Prince Chaker none the wiser, even though the butler seemed rather disturbed and confused.
After Prince Horus had finished up everything for the day and was heading back, he once again saw Lady Amy, now hiding behind a statue, trying and failing, to stand in the same pose.
With a little chuckle that surprised him as much as the servants nearby, he walked away, seemingly amused at the situation.
"My Prince, pardon my rudeness, but did something good happen?" A maid asked with the utmost care, as if to not come off as rude.
"I just saw a little mouse in hiding" Prince Horus said, chuckling a bit more.
"A MOUSE? Where did My Prince see it?" The maid yelled up, getting ready to kill the intruding little pipsqueak.
"Leave it be" Prince Horus ordered.
"It is doing its best to stay out of trouble" He continued, thinking how he didn't know if Lady Amy was smart for wanting to hide from Prince Chaker, or stupid because of HOW she hid. Ah, yes. Life had indeed been a bit more amusing ever since she came.
In the evening, Prince Horus decided to pay a visit to the little mouse.
Saying a hello to Sir Windsor who was on guard ever since the flower incident, Prince Horus got reminded that it was a bit odd he hadn't seen HIM all day.
"Well, hello there, dearest fiancé, how are you today?" She said, with the teasing tone she seemed to enjoy so much.
"I feel like I have been haunted by a little mouse today" Prince Horus responded, not realizing a smirk had formed on his face.
"A MOUS- oh, you mean me, right?" She said rather annoyed. Again Prince Horus wondered about how clever she really was. She always seemed perceptive, but she still managed to make careless mistakes. However, somehow she managed to stand against even his brother, still not having been thrown into isolation herself.
"Yes, I noticed your little hide-and-seek game with my brother today. Where, I wonder, was Sir Windsor? Was he not supposed to escort you? Did you hide from him as well?" Prince Horus was worried. Not that he would say that himself.
"WOW, it's not my fault! Sir Windsor was called by the emperor, and told me to stay out of Prince Chaker's sight just to be safe, so of course I did everything I could" She answered, having greatly taken offence. At least, it sounded like that.
Prince Horus gave a deep sigh and noticed Lady Amy smile a bit when he did. Yes, she was indeed a weird one.
They talked a bit more, after which he went out to speak to Sir Windsor.
"What did my father, The Sun of the empire want?" Prince Horus asked.
"He wanted to ask what I thought of your fiancé and how the knights were doing. It seems like war is brewing" Sir Windsor answered, having already greeted the prince when he went in.
Prince Horus gave a little nod to show his understanding and went back to his room.
Indeed, war was brewing… Both inside the palace and outside.
