Chapter 14: Part 3 - Huh? Why Me?!
"Huh?" I looked left and right then pointed to myself. "Me?"
What does he mean by that? That I'm the miracle they were waiting for.
"Yeah, you!" He enthusiastically replied.
"Why me?"
"Because you can see ghosts! The ghosts here are almost 10 years old, waiting for ascension to Heaven or to descend in Hell."
"And am I the only one you know who can see ghosts?"
"I know another one, but he's old and has another job."
I went silent.
I don't know how to respond to this. This is a lot of information to take in and it has only been 10 minutes since I got here! I thought that I would only be investigating this building, but now I
have been offered by a death angel a job to help him.
Thanatos sighed. "Look, I know that I'm putting a lot in you right now, and you're probably not used to this, these ghosts have been here for a long time now and have been longing for peace, but they can't do that because they are unable to as you see in their state right now."
I still don't know....
Thanatos placed a hand in my shoulder. "I know I only met you just now and I'm putting all of my trust in you, but you are our only hope right now....."
He looked at me in a weird expression. I know this. He doesn't know my name.
"Kazuya Shinozaki. Call me Kazu."
"Kazu, I know I'm asking you a lot."
I went silent for another moment. "Can I think this through first?"
"Of course!" He said enthusiastically and smiled. "We won't rush you."
"Thank you."
"Why don't you try helping one of the ghosts here tomorrow? Then after that, you can decide whether you want to do it or not. Sounds good."
This is a lot to take in, but it won't hurt to try.
"Yeah, sure. I'll come by tomorrow." I replied with a smile.
Thanatos bowed. "Thank you so much."
"Heh, no problem," I awkwardly replied. "Hey, I think I'll be going now-"
I was interrupted when someone in a slightly raspy voice talked. "Hey, Thanatos, got another one today."
I look behind me and I got startled jumped from where I am standing.
It was the shinigami I saw earlier.
