And there he stood at the edge of the bed and he huffed a few times, his paw scratching his maw. I slowly crawled the sheets towards him and reached to scratch him with a smile. I knew this was a trick to present himself less scary to me and I appreciated the gesture. He licked my hand and I took a deep breath.
