Chapter 21: Chapter XXI
Another two or more than two hours passed and I took that time to get my plan into action and since it is already dark outside it will be easy for me to hide in the dark. Changing my gown with a black mid-length dress, I took the key from under the pillow and made my way to the door. I already said my prayers to the upper power. This is a door that has a lock on outside as well as inside.
Twisting the key within the lock, it opened with a click sound that was melody to my ears. I made my way to the corridor and down the stairs, not wanting to waste even a minute. Since all the maids made their way to the servant quarters after cleaning the dishes of dinner, there was not anyone there. I quickly made my ways to the front door without making any noise for extra measures. I made my way to the front door only to notice that the guards were there. So it's not possible for me to get out from there. I hid from the eyes of those guards and looked for any root to escape and when I found I did a happy dance in my mind.
There in the kitchen was a window. I tiptoed my way to it and pulled it open while not making any noise. As soon as it opened a sigh of relief escaped my lips but I didn't wait for a second, not only for them to catch me, so I quickly got out of the window. It was big enough to fit me. There were other windows too but they were in the main hall and guards were there so this was the only window in the kitchen. And the only place where the guards couldn't have seen me. As soon as my feet touched the ground I sprinted forward. This was the backside of the castle, one could notice because there were not many guards patrolling here unlike the other places in the castle.
I made my way to the only root that can be seen and when it ended I saw a big gate but enough for me to climb it. And on either side were guards... sleeping. Myung-Dae must be disappointed if he gets to know that his guards are sleeping when they are supposed to protect this place.
And now why do you care if he is disappointed or not? My conscience again didn't take my side but pushing all of those thoughts aside I am my way to the gate and climbed it as swiftly I can but tripped at a point almost waking one of the guards but luckily they seem heavy sleepers.
I landed on the ground swiftly while I knew that I had finally done it. I have finally escaped this castle, now all is left is to reach my friend. And I am looking forward to it.
"It seems that today luck is on my side" I mumbled to myself while a grin completely plastered to my face and wave confidence rushed past me knowing that I am now another step close to reach my destination.
It's been a day since I am walking. After I escaped from the castle, I ran away from the scene and from that time I was walking, took a rest at night under a tree.
It's noon now and I know by this time Myung-Dae must have been back from where he had gone earlier and everyone should have known about my escape but that doesn't concern me. The thing that concerns me is that they won't come looking for me.
I asked some of the people to give me directions to leave the city and they did. And I am on my way to leave this city. It's a long journey, it takes weeks to travel to another kingdom on horses and carriages and I am on my feet with nothing in my stomach.
I only had that food which Byeol had given me and I don't know how I am going to survive without food. I would have looked for somewhere to work but I need to get out of this city. And even if I leave the city then I don't know where I am going to go next.
It is clear that I am going to my friend's father's kingdom but I need to get out of this kingdom to reach there. And I don't know how to do it. How to walk without food for hours and I highly doubt that I am going to escape from this kingdom at this speed. But I can't give up and I won't give up.
While I was thinking of all of my escape plans back in the castle. It seemed so simple. I will run from the castle, reach my friend's kingdom, ask for help, get my father out and happily ever after. But when this all is happening, I missed out the details of how I am going to escape this kingdom.
