Chapter 8

The Four Founders of Hogwarts. Each of them had created a magical artifact and left it as their legacy. Those were Godric Gryffindor's sword, Helga Hufflepuff's golden cup, Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem, and Salazar Slytherin's locket. Beside those magical artifacts, they left something else behind.

The Sorting Hat wasn't sure if all Four Founders had designed special rooms in the castle, but it was certain that Rowena Ravenclaw had one. She had created it before her memories were infused with the hat. Rowena had boasted quite a lot about her Chamber of Wisdom and goaded the other three Founders. They took it as a challenge and decided to create their own.

The Sorting Hat wasn't aware if Godric and Helga were successful, but it was certain that Salazar was. Slytherin had left a way for his descendants to find it, but the hat wasn't able to divulge that information to Harry since it had obtained it from other students. It was only able to inform him that Salazar's room existed.

It didn't have the same problem with Rowena's room and was more than happy to tell Harry about it. The Sorting Hat specifically told him he would have to be the top student to get access to it.

Now, Harry stood in front of the portrait of Rowena Ravenclaw and her familiar, Eclipse. The bird of prey used to be a golden eagle before Rowena had used a blood ritual to make it a magical creature. Eclipse had then drastically increased in size, intelligence, and had gained an inherent ability with the mind arts, due to Rowena using her own blood in the ritual.

'You can hear me?' Eclipse thought in surprise. His mind reached out towards the boy in front of him, but he stopped himself. His predator instincts told him that it wasn't a good idea, that the little hatchling in front of him was dangerous.

"Yes, I can hear you," said Harry. "Can you hear me? You look a bit old."

'I am old! But that doesn't mean I can't gobble you up!' Eclipse flapped his giant wings, showing him just how much bigger he was compared to Harry. 'Two or three bites is all I will need for a hatchling as small as you.'

"Finally," said Rowena with a charming smile. "A descendent of mine has been finally chosen to take the test. I believed that my line had fully died out after not a single one of them came for hundreds of years. I'm happy to see someone carrying my blood. What is your name, child?"

"My name is Harry Potter, but I don't think I'm a descendent of yours," Harry told her.

"Nonsense! You can hear Eclipse's thoughts, correct?" she asked, to which Harry nodded. "Then, you carry my gift. I was able to hear the thoughts of others and speak to them in their mind. Salazar prided himself as the best and most knowledgeable in the mind arts, but even he couldn't replicate my gifts."

"I know of two other people with the same ability," said Harry, thinking of Jean and Xavier.

"Truly? That is wonderful to hear-"

"They are not even remotely related to me by blood." Harry cut her off.

"But... that's not possible. They bear my gifts." Rowena stated, yet her voice quivered ever so slightly. She prided herself in her gift, she didn't think anyone besides those who bear her blood could inherit it.

"All three of us are mutants, and most likely, you were one as well," said Harry.

"Mutants?" Rowena asked uncertainly.

Harry then told her what mutants were to the best of his capabilities, but he wasn't that knowledgeable on that subject. At the end of his explanation, Rowena had a frown on her face. She was unhappy that her gift wasn't as unique as she believed, but there was something else that annoyed her even more than that.

"That insufferable, lizard talking scoundrel wasn't wrong? UGH!" It took her a moment to calm down, but she shortly returned to her regal and noble bearing.

"Well, no matter. That is a thing of the past. This is now the present, and you are here before me with the chance to become my heir," said Rowena with a dignified tone. "Any student that is part of my house and is the top of his year is given this chance, yet none had passed my test."

"Before you are given this test, you would have to sign a magical contract to never disclose off this place. The Chamber of Wisdom has already generated a contract for you. You can find it right below me on the table. Should you chose not to take the test and simply leave, Eclipse would have to remove your memories of this place."

"I will sign the contract. Becoming your heir would be nothing but beneficial to me," said Harry. "But I'll advise Eclipse to not try messing with my memories. It won't end well for him if he tries entering my mind."

"Arrogance won't do you any favors," Rowena warned him.

"I'm nowhere near as good as Professor Xavier, but I am confident in my abilities. However, the being that rests here," Harry tapped his head. "Is not very forgiving to those who enter my mind with bad intentions."

"You have something in your head?" Rowena asked in confusion. "Is it dangerous?"

"It's dangerous to others, but not to me. The Phoenix has been with me almost all my life and has protected me from harm," said Harry as he walked up to the table with the contract and signed his name on it.

Meanwhile, Rowena looked at Eclipse with a questioning gaze. The eagle nodded in response. Eclipse was old, yet he was still able to best the boy physically. He hasn't tested the boy mentally, but he wasn't willing to. Whatever being rested in Harry's mind, more than terrified him. His instincts hadn't warned him so strongly in a millennium.

"By signing the contract, you have accepted my test. Before you, there are twelve bookshelves. The three on the left side of the room are currently unavailable to you. You get access to them only if you become my heir. The other nine are filled with books about; Arithmancy, Charms, Curses, Healing Magic, Mind Magic, Potions, Runes, Transfiguration, and Wards. You have to pick one category and master it in three months. Pick your subject carefully."

"Three months later, you will show your skill before me, and I will judge whether you've mastered it or not. No matter which subject you choose, Eclipse will have to test your mental defenses. If they are too weak, he will remove any information about the Chamber and leave only the books you've read. He will do the same if you fail," Rowena told him as if Harry hadn't just warned her about that.

"Isn't three months to little to master a whole branch of magic?" Harry asked. He was confident, but not confident enough to master a whole branch within three months.

"Even I don't dare claim I've mastered a whole branch of magic," said Rowena. "You will only have to master the information in the books on one of the nine bookshelves. You will receive a bit of help from me, as well." She pointed to the right side of the room, where he was now able to see a door.

"Right behind that door is a Time Room. In it, you will find a Time-Turner, the first of its kind. The room and the Time-Turner were created by Merlin as he owed me a favor. I'm not sure how he was able to do it, but he used some kind of stone."

"Merline, as in the one they call the Greatest Wizard of all time?" Harry asked.

"Yes, I supposed he could be called that. Though, when he created the room, Merlin called himself the Sorcerer Supreme," Rowena mused. The title sounded weird to Harry, but then again, Albus Dumbledore, the greatest wizard alive, had quite a few weird titles.

"That doesn't matter right now. There are some rules about the Time Room that you have to follow. The Time-Turner cannot be removed from the room and can take you up to 12 hours in the past. The Time-Turner can only be used once every 24 hours. You mustn't use it to change the past, and you also mustn't meet your past self no matter what! Else you could end up creating an Alternate Timeline. Every time you use the Time-Turner, you will use that room to study until your past self uses it." Rowena pointed to the left, where another door was now visible to him. "So, now, which subject will you choose?"

"Transfiguration," Harry told her without hesitation, and she pointed to the eighth bookshelf without another word.

One by one, he read flipped through all the books there, before entering the time room. A few minutes later, Harry walked out of the second room Rowena had pointed at. He yawned as he rubbed his shoulders, and his stomach growled.

In his excitement to go back in time, Harry had forgotten that he had just returned from his morning exercises and hadn't had the chance to eat breakfast. He would have to figure out a way to bring food with him since staying 12 hours without food wasn't pleasant. He wasn't sure what would happen if he placed a plate with food in his Mokeskin pouch.

After 8 hours of reading and practicing Transfiguration, he started to feel sleepy. The problem was that there was no bed in that room. It only had a simple chair and table. The only other thing in the room was a carving on the floor that was in the shape of a 7-pointed star with a triangle at each end.

Harry found out that sleeping on a chair wasn't that comfortable. He swore that he will learn how to conjure a bed just so he can sleep peacefully in that room.

After entering the Great Hall, he made his way to the Ravenclaw table and sat down with a huff.

"What's wrong, mate?" Terry asked him as he stuffed his mouth full.

"Just feeling a bit tired," said Harry while stacking his plate full.

"You looked fresh when the rankings were released," said Su Li while sipping on her pumpkin juice.

Harry grumbled a response. The kids around him looked at each other before shrugging their shoulders. He acted weird from time to time, like hanging with the Slytherins, for example.

Later that day, Harry visited Dumbledore at his office. That wasn't something the Headmaster had expected since it was a Monday.

"Harry? What are you doing here? We had our discussion yesterday," said Dumbeldore.

"I wanted to ask you about my Mokeskin pouch, Professor," said Harry. "I was wondering if it could store food."

"Hmm, it can store food, but if you place it on a plate, it will get spilled inside it. Your best bet would be to place fruits inside a bag and then store them," explained Dumbledore. "Why would you need to store food inside it? There is plenty of food served in the Great Hall."

"I just need it, Professor," said Harry.

"You know you can tell me anything, my boy," said Dumbledore, feeling a bit suspicious about this. Why would Harry need to store food? Is he getting bullied? Or not getting along with the rest of the kids? As far as he knew, that wasn't the case.

"I know. I just need to store food in my pouch." Harry tried telling him about the Chamber of Wisdom, but the words never left his mouth. "Do you know a place where I can get some fruit?"

"I know a place like that, but won't you tell me why you need to store food in your pouch?" Dumbledore insisted on knowing.

"I just get hungry when I don't eat for a long time, Professor."

"Don't you eat with the rest of the kids in the Great Hall?"

"I do, but I get hungry when I'm on my own." Harry was starting to get annoyed with Dumbledore questioning him, and him not being able to give an answer that satisfied the old man.

"And where would you be when you get hungry?" Dumbledore asked with a twinkle in his eye. He was starting to realize what's going on. Especially when Harry opened his mouth, but no words came out of it.

"I trust that it's nothing dangerous?" Dumbledore inquired.

"No, Professor, I just need some more food."

"Come then. I will show you where you can get some fruit." And this is how Harry got to meet with the house-elves of Hogwarts.
