Chapter 3: 7 days
"I choose both cultivation guides." the kid said in a resolute tone.
"what?! can you even do that?" the white robed lady seemed confused. "why not just take the manual and the healing skill? you could use the skill whenever and who knows when you'll need it."
"no I can already tell from my choices this seems to be a life and death matter and I need strength. if I fuse the sub-manual with the cultivation guide, who knows to what heights the skill could go. I need strength to protect myself, and no amount of healing will help if I can't survive in the first place." the kid replied still leaking out a bit of aura.
"hehehe what a smart lad I really like you, i support your choice though it's a waste to lose out on the thunderbolt flash step." said the black robed man.
"who even knows if he can attach the two manuals together. that's a demonic book while ours is a holy text that not even the 9 high-gods are allowed to read anymore. after they finished writing it they had to give it directly to the king. I don't even know how it got into the life reward system." the white robed lady replied seemingly not wanting to back down.
"it doesn't matter that's my choice and I'm sticking to it. if there's a chance I can become powerful enough to protect myself I will take it no matter the cost. now the question is what are angelic and demonic points?" the kid asked looking at the two people around him awaiting an answer.
"they are points accumulated through killing good or evil beings and by doing actions that the world would call good or evil."replied the white robed lady. "Also everytime you hit a certain plateau on the points you'll grow slightly stronger angelic points increase your strength while making you feel as though you are being baptized by a holy light while demonic points refine you like you are in the fires of hell."
"hehe you make it sound so scary to gain demonic points. kid let me tell you the demonic points make you stronger than the angelic points thus it hurts way more. everytime you hit the plateau it hurts more but the increase in strength is a lot higher. thus alot of people stop cultivating and decide to go straight to our faction. where they have to first suffer the tribulation of life before they can be welcomed into our faction wholey." the dark robed man explained.
"Tribulation of life?" the kid asked.
"yes anyone who comes to this realm has to go through the tribulation of life before they can fully enter either faction." the white robed lady replied. "basically it's all of the wrongs you committed in life must be done back into you while you are in a sort of dream like state. it truly is slightly torturous."
"anyways the kid has chosen the two manuals which I believe means we are both stuck here indefinitely until he chooses a faction." the dark robed man yawned before continuing anyways kid I'm tired of supporting this formation anyways and I'm sure that lass over there is as well hurry and will the choices you've made out of the formation so we can go to sleep, since were both stuck with you anyways."
the boy nodded and turned his head back towards the ceiling and used his mind to call out for his choices.
a soft chime echoed in the cave once again.

as the words finished ringing out within the room two things slowly drifted from the ceiling a small dust covered book that seemed to exude a holy aura and a purple gemstone that looked as if black flames swirled about within.
as they floated down the purple crystal seemed to be attracted to the book and it suddenly bolted in its direction and fused into the book after which the book seemed to transform. the lines on the book cover shimmered in gold as the color on its cover changed to a dark purple.
the gold words grew brighter and brighter until finally the words materialized in mid air. in bright gold the words were " heavenly demon kings 99-pathed cultivation guide to immortality".
"wow even the name of this guide is so domineering." the dark robed man said in amazement.
"tch you're probably already thinking of a way to steal it for your sect." said the white robe lady in response as she arched her back and yawned. "hey kid I suggest learning it as quick as you can and then start practicing you only have 7 days to practice before you have to start your adventure. I'm about to sleep and I'm sure that old guy over there is getting tired as well. we'll wake up about 5 minutes before you have to leave. Then you're gonna have to decide who you take on this adventure of yours."
Shortly after speaking she laid back against the rock wall and closed her eyes.
The dark robed man still seemed to have slightly more energy but still seemed exhausted. he gave a slight grin and said "hehe this is what happens when you send a newbie in to complete a mission. I've got the best chance now." he then turned to the kid and said "in 7 days when you might not have to choose one of us, see if you can choose both."
"why would you say that, wouldn't you want me to choose just you?" the kid asked in suspicion.
"honestly because I'm sure you aren't gonna choose me if you have the choice." said the man in the dark robes.
"why do you believe that, I obviously just chose a demonic skill and a heavenly skill. it's still is uncertain of which way I may go." the kid said.
"haha it's the way you worded that sentence right there and besides, it'll be best if you had both of us along anyways." responded the dark robed man letting out another yawn.
"Why is that?" the kid asked quickly, seemingly realizing that the man could fall asleep any moment now.
"both to keep an eye on us and to make sure word doesn't get out about this to the heavenly and demon realms. if people found out the choices you were given and the end product all of the realms would go insane. you really don't understand the ramifications of this." the dark robed man's words were getting quicker towards the end and he was obviously trying his best to fight off the urge to sleep.
"ok final question why do you believe I'll get the choice to choose both of you?" the kid asked decisively.
"you know I really appreciate your kind, you get right down to the point. because it's not the first time it has happened, that lass over there didn't know what was going on because she's a complete rookie. people who have dual coaches are very rare but for you they'll be easy to find because they are usually super strong people in their qi stage. don't ask what a qi stage is because I'm sure that godly book over there will explain it. On that note I'm going to sleep." said the dark robed man as he laid back against the stone wall opposite of the lady in white.
