Is Mommy Pregnant
A month has passed; I am still training Lara. I don't know how a person could be this bad in the kitchen. She could do most things like make drinks, clean the kitchen, and make simple foods. If she wasn't obvious enough, she acts like a former posh London girl. She would cringe when she needs to clean up the greasy grill, which she eventually did anyway.
Right now, I am teaching her how to make Crêpes one of the essential French desserts. People enjoy Crêpes as they can enjoy them with breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Lara: "Joseph, I made a portion of food that's not burnt or on fire." She excitedly hugged me as she showed me her work. Instead of looking over the food, I am focusing on Lara, who was hugging me. Lara senses my burning gaze on her and looks back at each other. Lara's face came closer to mine, which I turned away, kissing my cheeks.
Lara grabbed my face and forcefully turned my head towards her, where I saw an angry look on her face. But before she could kiss my lips, she heard something break on the floor behind us. She turned her head and saw Haru with a surprised look on her face. Lara let go of my head and walked toward Haru to talk to her. I stayed in the kitchen to clean up the broken plates on the floor and think for myself.
Joseph: "Joseph, you need to make things straight with Lara. She's just a normal girl, don't drag her into your problem." I whispered to myself. "Besides, you already have enough things on your plate; why would you add another person to protect," I said while looking at my reflection on the piece of broken plate.
Things with Lara had been slowly escalating when she started working in my cafe. Lara keeps asking about my private life before I was running my cafe. I don't know what made Lara decide to pursue someone like me. Besides, I have too much baggage on me, and I don't want to share it with her.
I hope she will understand that I don't want to be with her right now. I don't know how long it will take before I break and do something to her. I don't want to see her hate me, but she should stay away from me to protect her from the dangers I am facing.
While picking up plate shards on the ground, I heard the door open. I looked up and saw Sam with her smile on her face. She was walking towards the counter to talk to me.
Sam: "Hay Joseph, how are you doing." she said with a wicked smile on her face.
Joseph: "I already gave you an autograph and my phone number; what else do you want." I said with an annoyed look on my face.
Sam: "oh, don't be like that. Hey, at least you knew that you're famous if I hadn't told you. You would have gone through your life, not knowing." she said while trying not to laugh at my disgruntled look on my face." still though who would have thought a stay at home dad working in his cafe was a badass treasure hunter/cameraman." she said with admiration.
Joseph: "Yeah, and I left that life because it's dangerous," I said while going back, picking up the mess on the floor. "There is nothing to gain from that life," I stated full of contempt.
Sam: "You must have an awful experience with exploring ancient tombs. Well, whatever, I am here for Lara and Haru to go shopping." she said, not minding my warning. I was going to tell her they were upstairs when the two people she was looking for came downstairs.
Lara: "Sam, you're already here, let us go." she said while holding Haru's hands.
Haru: "Yey, this will be the second time I go shopping with mommy." she said while they leave through the front door. I look at Haru, who was happy at going with Lara, and I look at Lara with mixed emotions; ultimately, I only signed in the end and went back to work.
---Lara pov---
I am walking with Sam and Haru, who was happily skipping beside me. Haru stopped jumping, and excitedly looked at me.
Haru: "Mommy, will I have a new baby brother or sister," she said while looking at me with an expectant look on her eyes. I almost choked on my saliva when I heard her question. Sam also processes Haru's words before looking at me with a surprised look on her face.
Sam: "what you already did with Joseph, I thought you are still trying to break the wall between you guys." she said while trying not to shout out her words.
Lara: "Wait, hold on there, Sam, Joseph, and I have never done it. And Haru, why would you think I'm pregnant with your siblings." I said while trying to hold down the excitable little girl.
Haru: "When my friend Ryan kisses me on the cheek, Papa told me never to let any boy kiss me because I will get pregnant." she said with a serious look on her face. When I heard her reasoning, I held my head not to hurt my mind. I sighed at the innocent girl, and I did not bother correcting her logic on getting pregnant. But I corrected her about me getting pregnant.
Lara: "I'm sorry, honey. I'm not pregnant with your siblings." I said towards the girl's heartbroken look on her face.
Sam: "why are you going after Joseph, who is trying to push you away from him." she said while having a confused look on her face. "If it were me, I would have left that guy a long time ago."
Lara: "I see my late father on him; Joseph is trying to keep something hidden from his family, which I hate the side of him just like my father." I said while frowning about Joseph's wrong side. "But one difference between my father and Joseph is how they take care of their children. My father neglected me and only occasionally gave me artifacts to fool me on thinking he hasn't forgotten about me," I said with greater contempt towards my father. "While Joseph here cared deeply toward Haru, he even went as far as settling down for his daughter."
Sam: "Great, so you have Daddy issues, it doesn't answer my question why are you pursuing a man who will ultimately break your heart." she said while looking at me with a questioning look on her face.
Lara: "I don't know. Honestly, I am trying to make him open up, but if I can't and get rejected, then I will be my fault for trying." I said with a sad smile on my face.
Sam: "well, at least you are improving yourself; a month ago, you would never even try talking with anyone. Now you could talk to customers without any problem." She said while sighing. "But still you are going into a dead end with this relationship, well whatever if you're not shy anymore, would you like to go to a nearby nightclub tomorrow night." She said with an excited look on her face.
I look at Sam with a tired look on my face. She has been asking me to go with her to the night clubs. Then I thought of something she could come with to go hiking on Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Lara: "sure if you go with me hiking to Mt. Kilimanjaro." I said with a smug look on my face. I thought she would refuse to go hiking with me, but to my surprise, she accepted.
Sam: "sure, why not in exchange you have to go with me to the club tomorrow night," she said, also having a smug look on her face. Just like that, I am going to the nightclub, not knowing that this night would be the best night of my life and also my worst.
