Haru's New Mommy Plan
--Lara pov--
Right now I am waiting in front of the cafe Sam had told me. Sam has told me to wait for her in front of the cafe. But it's almost time for the cafe to open up, and she's nowhere near the cafe. I was going to wait for another minute when I heard someone calling me from behind. My eyes widened as I saw the person right in front of me.
I wanted to run right now, but his gaze made my heart beat fast, and my reasoning melted away as I glanced back at him. We stared at each other for what feels like forever; he broke our staring contest and turned around and went back to his cafe. I don't know why, but my legs just followed him in without thinking.
Right now, I am standing right in front of the man I followed while he is cleaning his work area. After that, he looked at me and gave me a conservative smile on his face, which I hate to see the most. It feels fake like he is trying to hide something from me.
???: "what would you like to have for breakfast, miss, coffee, or tea." he said with his work smile, which I wanted to punch the most.
Lara: "I would like to have black tea with two cubes of sugar and milk in my drink, please, and also for breakfast. I would like to have a traditional English breakfast." I said to the man, when he heard my orders, he started brewing my tea and cooking my breakfast at the same time. I stared at him in a daze as I was mesmerized by his skills in the kitchen. But when I saw his left arm, I frowned a bit.
Lara: "um excuse me, sir, did you ever work for the military," I said while pointing at his prosthetic arm. The man kept quiet, which annoyed me as he only had a sad smile on his face towards my question.
I heard steps upstairs; I looked at the stairs that had employee-only entrance signs on it. I saw a cute blonde haired child and a cute hedgehog on top of her head. The child was wearing a cute pink dress. The child's beautiful emerald eyes look at me with excitement on them. She pushed two stools nearby toward the counter.
She drags me towards the stools; she pushed and looked at me with an extended arm towards me. I gently carried her and put her onto the seat. She patted the seat next to her, indicating to sit there.
???: "Hello, Mommy, I am Haru; may I know my new Mommy's name." she said with a starry-eyed gaze in her eyes. The father of the girl almost tripped when he was in the kitchen.
???: "Haru, don't bother the new customer." he said with a first real warm smile on his face, which got my attention and was mesmerized by his genuine smile. "Sorry about my daughter, she likes to prank people."
Lara: "I don't mind; I love kids, but something has been bothering me, doesn't she have a mother." I said with a confused look on my face as I saw a picture hanging on the wall. In that picture was a beautiful blonde lady together with the man in front of me. Instead of the man, I asked the question to answer me; it's the girl next to me that responded to my inquiry.
Haru: "Mommy died when she gave birth to me, so I have been looking for a new Mommy," she said with a cute sad smile on her face, which I just wanted to comfort her. "So would you be my mommy?" I would have said no, but the girl's eyes gave me a puppy look.
Lara: "sure, why not," I said with a confused state of mind. When I said those words, my mind was screaming at me; why did I accept a little girl's request. Those thoughts melted away when she jumped up from her seat and hugged me, which I caught her.
Haru: "thank you for being my mommy," she cried while hugging me tightly, which I hugged her back to ease the crying girl. I look at the dad of this girl looking at me with a strange look on his face, in one hand he looked guilty of something, but the other he has a warm smile on his face. I wanted to ask why he had a guilty look on his face but was interrupted when the door behind me opened and showed Sam coming in the cafe.
Sam: "Lara, why are you being hugged by a cute little girl," she said while looking at me. "And what's your name mister, I swear I have seen you somewhere before," she said while thinking hard.
Haru: "She is my Mommy now," she said while digging her face onto my jugs.
???: "sorry about my daughter, who will do anything to have whatever she wants." he said while sighing at me. "Let me introduce myself; my name is Joseph Maiava, and this little girl is Haru Maiava, my daughter." when Sam heard his name, she looked stunned. Before I could ask her why she was stunned, she answered my quest in my mind.
Sam: "OH! MY! GOD! You're the same guy from the legendary documentary show," she said with an excited look on her face while grabbing her phone from her bag.
Joseph: "what do you mean by the legendary show? I have never been to any show." He said with a confused look on his face.
Sam: "of course, you have never been to any show but who said you weren't a cameraman for a certain channel." when she said that Joseph's face fell as he realized what Sam was going to tell us. Sam shows us her iPhone 4, on the phone, a video is playing of Joseph fighting a bunch of pirates. I quickly covered Haru's eyes when Joseph killed a man.
Joseph: "where did you get this video." he said while shaking in anger.
Sam: "it's from the National Geographic channel, you used to work for Elena who was working on her first season of Uncharted Series." she said while looking at Joseph with admiration in her eyes. " You were popular with girls when they first showed you on TV, of course, they took down the show because of the graphic scenes. But they can't deny that Nathen Drake found the uncharted island of eldorado."
I looked at Joseph with a starry-eyed look towards him; even Haru, who was on my lap, was looking at him with admiration.
Haru: "Papa is cool." She said while wanting to watch the video, which I keep preventing from happening. I heard Joseph whisper to himself.
Joseph: "Elena, when I get my hands on to you, you would not get the light of day." he said while angrily watching more of the video. I looked at the video and saw a different look on his face instead of the warm fatherly look right now. Joseph looks like he is suffering from something, but I can't put my finger on it.
Joseph: "Okay, I have seen more than enough. Can you leave this place because I don't want my daughter to ask you questions." He said while trying to get Sam to leave this place.
Sam: "before I leave, do you have a vacant spot for Lara here to work." she said while trying her best not to leave this place. "And also can I have your autograph."
When Haru heard this, she excitedly looked at Joseph, wanting him to accept me to work here. I looked at Joseph, who was hesitating. He looks at me then Haru on my lap before sighing.
Joseph: "Okay… Lara, can you start working early tomorrow." he said while having a tired look on his face. I nodded at him, which only got him to sigh at me. I heard a whisper from Joseph, "I hope I don't regret this."
