Chapter 41: Jambre The Dark City

The carriage arrived in Jambre the next day. Driving through the gate of the city, the Coachman paid the guards who carefully inspected the carriage. Finding nothing strange they let it through.

The Coachman found a luxurious hotel called "The Lord Kingsly Hotel." After making arrangements, the Coachman secretly traded places with the Porter, another of Poole's duplicates, who carried the luggage and equipment to the penthouse.

With the last piece of luggage, the Porter and Coachman stayed in the carriage mansion while Poole the Steward came out to attend to his master.

Poole took a look at the city as he entered the Lord Kingsly Hotel. It was a beautiful city, and he found it difficult to believe it was deserving of its nickname, The Dark City."*

When Poole arrived in the penthouse, Alfar the Page was serving tea to Dr. Whatson as Gene paced around the room. "You seem rather bothered about something Elam," Dr. Whatson said.

"Not bothered, impatient. I'm ready to go but I must remain patient."

"Anything you can share?" Dr. Whatson asked.

"No, not now, not until everything is in motion. As soon as I can I will let you know," Gene said with a smile.

Count Raby's Mansion was located in the North section of the city where all of the nobles, exceptionally wealthy, and powerful people resided.

In the mansion, the Count and his servant, Burgot, were in a meeting with a young woman. The pair were very intimidated by her and treated her like she was a sacred ancestor.

"Lady Jawan (Chapter 21), please tell me how we can serve you," the Count said. He wasn't afraid of her asking for his help, he was afraid she wouldn't ask for help. He feared even more that she was there looking for him.

"There is a young man," she held up a small grey globe and a 3D image surrounded it. "He is someone I need to teach a lesson to.

I will begin his lesson by ripping his most treasured asset from him.

Then, you will teach him a lesson in blood for me.

You may wonder why I have approached you with this opportunity. I think you'll be glad to know he has wronged both of you and you aren't even aware of it.

He is the true architect of the disaster in Glane.

He has already corrupted your followers and they now serve him. Their power has increased to such a degree that you may not be strong enough to face them alone.

Gather allies, and if you can kill all of his servants and friends, find and destroy his allies. However, he will not be killed for now.

If you harm a single hair on his head I will carve your hearts out and use your heads as paperweights. Do you understand?" She said calmly.

"Yes, mistress, we will obey and take heed of your warning. This man's family, friends, and servants are as good as dead. May I know his name?" Count Raby asked.

"He calls himself Prince Elam son of Bar Lin of the Three Cities, but rest assured, he is not of this world and is far more special than you can imagine. Keep this orb and show his image to your people."

Jawan turned off the orb and did a quick demonstration of how to turn it on and off. She rose to leave the room.

Before leaving she turned back to them, "if you succeed, you will be allowed to join an exclusive and powerful organization. You will become like kings of this world," she said as she left.

After she left, Count Raby's eyes turned cold and dark. Burgot's red eyes shown and his teeth turned sharp.

"That stupid pup of mine thinks he can betray me! I'll rip out his guts and feast on his entrails while he watches!" Burgot said.

"That is too gentle. The price for betraying us will be beyond their estimation. My spies tell me the Dygon family should reach Jambre in the next few days. Perhaps we'll let them participate in the fun," the Count said.

"What about this Prince Elam," Burgot asked.

"Do you want to get us murdered? If you can't keep your anger in check and go after him, tell me now so I can kill you before you ruin me." The Count said.

"No, of course, that isn't what I meant," Burgot corrected himself.

"Then what did you mean?" The cold and deadly eyes of the Count asked his servant.

"Master, I was just wondering how we are going to separate the boy from his friends so we can kill them without risking injury to the Prince," Burgot said.

"Better, that's the villain I know. Lady Jawan made it clear she would cripple the boy first. Until this happens, there's no need to worry about attacking anyone.

For now, send some of your Betas and their Fangs to get as much information on them as possible.

I just received a message from Barron Atticus, so he seems to be in Glane still. However, after Lady Jawan's words, I think it is more likely he left a subordinate in place and he is likely here somewhere.

Have some of your dogs sniff out the locations of our former servants," the Count said.

"She said they are likely to be as powerful as us by now," Burgot said.

"Unlikely, you know how all of this works. Maybe they've been given powerful weapons or something. We'll proceed with caution.

I will contact some of my allies in the city. When it's time, we'll unleash the darkness of Jambre upon this group of whelps!" The Count said in rage.

Gene sat in his hotel room unaware of the meeting in the north of the city, but his instincts told him blood was coming. He arose from his place and walked to the window and looked out at the city.

"Anything can happen now, I can't predict what's coming. I can only prepare," he thought to himself.

"Poole, have Alfar come and see me," Gene said.

A few minutes later, Alfar came to receive the orders of his master. "Something isn't right, I feel nervous. Use your power and find the source of my unease," he commanded.

Alfar accepted his master's order and closed his eyes. A large map of the city appeared and a red dot shone on it like a laser pointer.

It moved across the map to the north end of the city and came to rest on the Mansion of Count Raby. Alfar opened his eyes and the map floated into Gene's hands.

"So it's started. My plot is already being unraveled," he said out loud. Dr. Whatson heard him and walked over.

"Your plot, what do you mean, Elam?"

"It seems I have underestimated our enemy, my friend."

Dr. Whatson looked at the map and saw the dot on the Count's mansion.

"You mean the Count?" he asked.

"No, we have a much greater enemy than the Count," he said.

"How do you know?" He asked.

"Because she's been quiet too long," he said.

<Penalty Mission Activated: The forces of darkness are coming for your friends and allies. You must help them survive and accept punishment for repeated rule-breaking.>

"You cannot ignore me any longer Gene. I will enforce the rules; I have the power to do so and your limited intelligence isn't enough to stop me." Otrera spoke for the first time in months.

"As I thought, you've been plotting this whole time. Do you think I can't stop you? Ha-ha, this is just the stimulation I need to get serious.

Before we begin, you haven't told me my reward for accomplishing my mission.

<Reward for Completing the Mission: The Player will receive the Alabaster Ruge, a legendary material useful in artifact creation, medicine refinement, and has the ability to be used to create a Quantum Scorcher.

The Player will receive the Alabaster Ruge and blueprints for the Quantum Scorcher.>

"Excellent, I accept the challenge! Oh, and by the way Otrera,"

"Yes, Gene," she said.

"System Line Command Entry: No Peeking. Enter."

<System has entered blind mode and will not be able to spy on the player during the duration of the mission.>

"You're in trouble now Otrera. Well played my former self! Dr. Whatson! In the words that my favorite fiction Detective never said: 'The Game is afoot!' Whatson, the game is afoot!"

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

*Jambre has evolved since the discussion of it in chapter 20. I am writing a chapter a day and editing as I go, and since I don't have all the details clearly planned before writing them or if I take the plot in a different direction I like to make changes.

Right now I am editing the chapters and will rewrite the section on Jambre in Chapter 20 until then I hope you can put up with the discrepancy.

If you are enjoying the book show your support with spirit stones, comments, reviews, adding it to your collection, and sharing it with your friends.

Currently, I am releasing 7 chapters per week

1000 spirit stones I will release 2 extra chapters

1200 spirit stones I will release 4 extra chapters

Meaning if I get 1200 spirit stones I will release a maximum of 4 extra chapters.

I’ll do the release of extra chapters on Sundays.

Let’s take this book to the stars!
