Chapter 27: Minato's talk with the Hokage
The moment Ren arrived at the hospital, the people were whispering and gossiping. With Ren's hearing, he could hear everyone talking about the rumor of him being Orochimaru's illegitimate son.
"Good Morning, Head Surgeon Ren." Shizune greeted him after seeing him enter.
"Good morning to you as well, Shizune. Anyone who needs utmost help?" Ren asked and Shizune started flipping through a stack of paper.
Ren thought she could be a good assistant seeing how dedicated she was in working the part.
"Uhm, I think there's only one patient. I believe its still in the emergency." Shizune raised her head and said to Ren.
"Is that so? Thanks." Ren said and immediately went to the emergency room.
Meanwhile, Minato is currently talking with the hokage in his office.
"Leave us alone. We're going to have a serious talk." Hiruzen said and shadows started disappearing from the room.
"Its been a while, isn't it?" Hiruzen said as he motioned for Minato to sit.
"Its been a while, I guess." Minato replied and sat down.
"I know you're here to ask about that young man." Hiruzen took the initiative but Minato didn't flinch.
"Yes. I am here to ask what happened. When Ren left earlier to work, he got a sour expression and looked a little angry." Minato asked Hiruzen.
"Minato, answer me. Where did you find that young man." Hiruzen asked. He wants to know if Ren is going to be a threat to Konoha, in the future or not.
"I believe you should ask Lord Jiraiya about it. He's the one who found Ren. We only offered a house since the estate is pretty gloomy with no one living besides us." Minato said, although he could just outright say that Ren came from Mount Myoboku but he didn't, because he thought of Ren as a little brother he never had. Instead, he pushed the blame to Jiraiya. Its like Ren's indirect revenge for spreading rumors about Ren.
"Is that so? Then what do you think of Ren?" Hiruzen asked Minato.
"I heard that his skills in the medical field is something of a genius. He also saved a lot of ninjas who were hurt in the war. I think he's a great asset to Konoha." Minato replied to Hiruzen's questioning.
"Indeed. But if someone that great is someone without backing, what do you think will happen?" Hiruzen asked. He was asking to swe if Minato is someone worth grooming.
Namikaze Minato, someone who gained fame from the war, known as the yellow flash. Feared by the enemy nation. He had proven his mettle in times of trouble. There's no need for Hiruzen to doubt Minato's ability to fight that's why he's asking Minato about his opinions about internal conflicts such as this.
"Many people will try to aim for Ren. Force him to join their cause and use him to gain more power." Minato said with confidence.
"Then how will you resolve this issue?" Hiruzen asked.
"If I don't know Ren, I would suggest to house him under the hokage's protection. But since I know Ren, I know he won't like that. He don't want to be tied to something. That's why in my opinion, just let him be. Let him do what he wants, as long as he's not harming innocent people." Minato said and Hiruzen was surprised by Minato's answer.
"Why do you want to let him be? Do you want him to be forced to join others?" Hiruzen asked curiously.
"No. Forcing him? I doubt he would succumb to that. If he's troubled about it, he probably would've talked about it with me or Kushina. But he didn't." Minato replied to Hiruzen who puffed his pipe.
"Hmmm. Do you know his real capabilities? If you fought him, would you be able to win?" Hiruzen asked Minato. He would like to have someone who can stop Ren should he choose to harm Konoha and its residents.
"I'm not sure. We only saw his capabilities for a brief moment. I believe he knows how to use lightning element." Minato said after remembering the sparks of electricity that flowed out of Ren's body in just a single moment.
Although Minato didn't divulge Ren's origin nor his 'pet companion', he is still a leaf ninja serving the hokage so he had to say it.
"Lightning element? Is he from the land of Lightning?" Hiruzen aaked.
"I believe not. If he was from the land of lightning, someone from that place would've probably searched for him." Minato replied calmly and Hiruzen put on his brain to work.
"I suggest you let him join a clan by offering a matchmaking partner for Ren, if you really want to tie him down and skills to this place. Though, I'm sure he wouldn't accept it haha~." Minato's suggestion was pretty good but after remembering that it was Ren, he suddenly turned down the thought.
"Hmm. Political marriage huh. But with whom and what clan? I'm pretty sure the clan heads would decline the offer or maybe they will offer someone with a low standing so that it would not affect their clan." Hiruzen thought it was good as well but after thinking about the pride of the clanheads, he thought it was impossible.
"Just let him be." A voice said much to the surprise of the two.
"Do you think that just because he isn't retaliating, he would let others walk over him? He might be good natured but even he has his own limits. He is just taking them lightly because they are not doing anything harmful to him... but should they do..." The voice continued and sounded solemn.
"Kushina..." Minato spoke the name of his partner.
"What? Can't I come to have a talk with the hokage?" Kushina said with a stern expression.
"Its not that..." Minato tried to argue but after seeing her partner's expression, he stopped.
"What do you mean, Kushina?" Hiruzen asked with a curious look.
"I meant what I mean. Just let him be. If those people really tried to harm Ren or those close to him, consider themselves to have made an enemy with someone they shouldn't mess with." Kushina said with confidence. When she attacked Ren, he dodged her attacks with ease, when she surprised attack him, he was only surprised for a second before using that lightning clad form that he used to escape.
Hiruzen on the other hand, thought of the moment when he felt that intense killing intent. Even though it was just a moment, he felt chills from it. He was like the Grim Reaper who can take the lives of anyone he chooses.
"Alright. Just let him do what he wants. Bear!" Hiruzen then waved his hands and an Anbu with a bear mask appeared in front of Hiruzen after being called.
"No one will make a move towards Ren. If Ren retaliates, watch him closely. I don't want him to hurt innocent civilians. If he do attacked civilians, ask him for the reason. If the reason he gave is reasonable and the person you are protecting wasn't really innocent as they say, retreat. Understood?" Hiruzen said sternly while the anbu was listening to the Hokage's instructions while kneeling with one foot.
"Understood, Lord Hokage!" The Anbu said before leaving. He was also there when Ren released that fearful killing intent. At first, his impression towards Ren wasn't good, but after hearing his praise for the anbu for doing their job, he felt that Ren was not a bad fellow if no one provoked him. He felt pity for those who will try to cross path with this man who can decide who lives and who dies.
