Chapter 21: First Day of Medical Assistant turned Temporary Surgeon Ren part 2
"That was quite an assistant you have there." Tsunade sincerely said.
"Indeed. I don't have much of an impression of him earlier. Turns out he was more than meets the eye." Orochimaru said.
"So? Why is he working under you? Who sent him? I heard that your last assistant couldn't handle all the viciousness of war when you visited the wounded nin." Tsunade said as her fear slightly affected her but she stood her ground and made sure it wasn't noticeable.
"He said Jiraiya gave him a recommendation letter. I don't know what exactly Jiraiya saw in him to give him a recommendation letter but I can say, that kid has what it takes to be a 'combat'medic based on his mindset just now, though I don't know if he has the ability to fight." Orochimaru said and Tsunade widened her eyes in disbelief.
In the history of Konoha, other than her, no one came close to the feats she had displayed in the war. She could fight and act as a medic at the same time. She would brute force her way in and save her comrades that are encircled and trapped by enemies. That's why her enemies wish to finish the fight before she could arrive and rescue her comrades.
"Are you serious?" Tsunade asked as she narrowed her eyes.
"I don't know. Other than that, I couldn't think of a reason why Jiraiya would give a recommendation to the boy. Maybe he is just repaying a favor and let that boy do what he wants." Orochimaru shrugged his shoulders as he really didn't have any information about Ren.
"Hmmm. Maybe having a talk with him is in need." Tsunade said and Orochimaru shrugged his shoulders once again.
"Just say you want an excuse to drink and gamble." Orochimaru said while Tsunade looked like a robber that got caught red handed as she chuckled a little.
Meanwhile, outside the room, Ren is meditating. In his mind, he was in a white room. He is currently operating the patients he had read in the files. Using Korosensei's knowledge, he tried saving all of the patients in his mind. He is currently on his 3rd patient who lost his arm, he tried everything to stimulate the dead arm and connected the nerves to the cut and sewed it with a needle. He didn't know if such a method is successful since the percentage of success is less than 50%, Ren is gambling with his skills to save his patient.
When Ren was about to go to the 4th patient, Orochimaru finally opened the door and looked at Ren with his eyes closed while his hands are moving in the air. Hearing the door opening, Ren opened his eyes, his hands that are dancing in the air stopped moving as he looked at Orochimaru.
"What are you doing, Ren?" Orochimaru asked.
"Using my imagination to save those patient that were on the files that I've read earlier." Ren seriously said. Orochimaru thought that he was kidding but when he saw the seriousness in his eyes, he thought otherwise.
"Then your job is not to be my assistant, help me deal with the new batch of wounded nin." Orochimaru thought of giving Ren a chance. He also wanted to see whether Ren had the talent and skill or he was just given a recommendation letter by Jiraiya just because of a favor.
"I don't have tools." Ren wryly said.
"I have spare tools you can use. Let me know what you're going to use." Orochimaru said as he walked downstairs while Ren followed as he is thinking of tools that he can use that surely they would have. He can't just ask for an MRI or Xray or something like that.
"A scalpel, needle, thread and other basic tools are fine." Ren said after a little bit of deliberation.
"Sure. I have all of them." Orochimaru nodded as they headed for the basement.
When they arrived at the basement, screams of pain were heard, the place was chaotic, and many medics were pacing left and right.
After seeing Orochimaru, Shizune approached him with a metal tray and a hot towel on top of it. The sterilized tools were placed on top of the hot towel. Ren looked at the tray for a second before Orochimaru spoke.
"Shizune, go and sterilize my spare tools. Meanwhile, Ren, help me with the patients with the grave injuries." Orochimaru commanded and Ren complied.
"Understood." Ren said as Shizube passed the metal tray onto Ren's hands and surveyed the location on who needs the most and immediate help.
"4th row 5th patient." While Orochimaru is analyzing the patients, Ren spoke and pointed to the man with a metal board stuck on his stomach. A medic was keeping him alive with a palm technique that Ren didn't know but he could see the natural healing of the body is being enhanced while being held by the palm technique.
Orochimaru looked over and was curious as to why Ren chose to pick that guy first but he shook his thoughts and immediately rushed towards the patient pointed by Ren. He'll just ask why Ren chose that guy later.
"Lord Orochimaru!" The medic said as he lowered his head but didn't remove the hand healing the patient.
"Let me." Orochimaru said and he took over while Ren watched him from behind.
"Scal-" Before Orochimaru finished speaking, Ren has already stretched his arm out holding a scalpel. Orochimaru was surprised but continued working on the wounded nin.
"You, help me remove the debris slowly." Orochimaru said to the medic as he complied and removed the debris slowly. Orochimaru then used the palm technique to help close the wound.
"Stop, Lord Orochimaru, there's still traces of debris inside of his stomach. It might not affect him now but in the future he might die from metal poisoning." Ren said as he stared closely at the wound.
Orochimaru stopped using the mystical palm technique and decided to comply to Ren's whim as he opened up the stomach and Ren gave him the appropriate tools to open the wound up and look for traces of debris.
With the help of Ren pointing the debris, Orochimaru removed the remaining debris with his tools. After ensuring that everything was alright, Ren told Orochimaru the next patient that needs help after surveying the wounded ninjas.
Ren continued helping Orochimaru until Shizune came back with another tray with tools. Ren swapped trays with Shizune and asked her to assist Orochimaru while he himself moved to earn his salary. Many were skeptical at letting Ren work but when Orochimaru vouched for him, they shut up and just assisted.
Ren didn't use the palm techniques they used but he used the medical knowledge he acquired from Korosensei and his hands started moving like its dancing on its own. The medics were mesmerized by the fast moving hands of Ren where he would inspect the patients wounds, do the required surgery, and patching it up in under 20 minutes. (Just imagine Machi Komacine from hxh or Dr. BlackJack.)
Orochimaru would sometimes look over at Ren and was astonished when he saw his needlework.
'He is even faster than Tsunade! This boy is simply a good seed!' Orochimaru thought to himself as he continued treating the patient before him.
