Chapter 16: Reconciliation
Elder Shima's teaching took more than 7 days because of Ren's questions but their education session would only last for an hour or two as Elder Shima has other duties to do as an elder.
Ren had finally known most of the common things that happens in the outside world. He also finally knew about chakra as he remembered the blue energy floating around when he was meditating. When he asked about the yellow energy, Elder Shima's expression crumbled as she warned Ren that interacting with the yellow energy or nature energy as Elder Shima told him is dangerous and would need an expert in using the natire energy if he wants to interact with it.
Ren have also known that there are five major powers in the name of villages outside. Konohagakure, Iwagakure, Kumogakure, Sumagakure, and lastly, Kirigakure. Although the Five Great Shinobi Countries are equal enough in power and military strength to create a fairly stable balance of power, the Land of Fire is considered the most influential.
Ren also learned that bandits are fairly common as they took advantage of the war to blockade other paths to extort fees from merchants and any passerby who wants to use the path.
After the intense lesson by Elder Shima, Ren has noted down the basics and planned to make a living for a while while waiting for the land to be ready.
"So? Have you thought of a plan now Ren-boy?" Elder Shima asked. The reason why Ren wants to learn about the outside world is to earn money for their food and learn many things.
"Yes, Elder Shima. I would like to prepare for 2 days and we will go." Ren said and Elder Shima nodded.
"Elder Shima, is there anyone you know in this village that we could stay for now? I promise we will pay." Ren said causing Elder Shima to chuckle.
"Let me ask Jiraiya-boy. I'm sure he won't disappoint." Elder Shima said and Ren's face distorted after hearing their name but decided to let go. He knows that Elder Shima is doing this to patch their relationship and he is giving face to Elder Shima at least.
Two days later, Ren met Jiraiya and Elder Fukasaku once more and they are kneeling in apology to Ren who quickly accepted.
"I'm not doing this for you or your prophecies, I'm doing this because of Elder Shima. Other than that, I have no problems with you." Ren said as he doesn't really have problems with them other than them forcing things onto him.
"I heard that you are looking for a house... are you going to be a ninja?" Jiraiya asked carefully. He didn't want to sour their relationship because of silly questions.
"Although I have been training myself and Elder Shima's the witness for that. I'm going to work as a civilian and learn trading crafts. There are so much out there that can be learned, for example, you are writing a book. I could smell the faint aroma of ink in your fingertips." Ren said which surprised Jiraiya. He is indeed writing a book and he never told anyone other than himself because he knew that if others knew about it, they would laugh at him as it is outside of his personality.
"You are writing a book, Jiraiya-boy?" Elder Shima asked in surprise.
Jiraiya raised his hand in surrender and admitted about him writing a book and expected some laughter but he didn't hear anything.
"Why are you not... laughing?" Jiraiya asked.
"Why? Is there something wrong or funny with writing a book?" Ren retorted which dumbfounded Jiraiya. He then glanced at Elder Shima and Elder Fukasaku, who taught him so many things, just standing there with serious look on their face.
"Why would we laugh at somebody putting in effort in something he's not used to do?" Elder Shima said.
"At least what you're doing is not illegal." Elder Fukasaku chimed in and Jiraiya felt great after hearing their words.
"Thank you. I hear that you're looking for a temporary house, Ren. My student has a large estate and other than him and his lover, there are no one living with them, I'm sure a neighbor would delight the two. Do you want to live with them?" Jiraiya said the first part in a joyful mood but his face slowly turned serious after saying the latter part.
"Err... if its okay with them about me planting plants in pots then all is good for me." Ren replied. He had Yoruichi with him too and he at least wants to plant something like necessary vegetables in pots so that he won't have to spend much in going to buy it in markets.
"Then its all settled, when do you want to leave?" Jiraiya asked once more.
"As soon as possible. Elder Shima said that the war has reached its conclusion and only small skirmishes are happening so its kind of safe. Don't worry about me. I can protect myself." Ren said and Elder Shima knew that Ren was not joking. In Elder Shima's eyes, Ren is someone who can make a name for himself in the shinobi world, if he wanted to.
"Then I'll have a talk with them now. If they agreed we can set out tomorrow." Jiraiya said as he stood up and was about to leave when Ren asked him.
"Is there a spot in the medical area? I know the basics and would like to work there." Ren's knowledge of basics could turn this world upside down. He learned everything from the reaper.
As a top assassin, the Reaper knows the human body the best. Spots where to quickly kill them, spots to make them lose consciousness, spots that when struck, causes the most damage, and many more. His knowledge in the human body is further developed when he became a teacher. Ren's medical knowledge could bring this era to a new world, but he doesn't know that.
Jiraiya's body shook after hearing the medical area. His friend, Tsunade, after learning of Nawaki and Dan's death, started to fear blood and pulled out of the medical area. For now, his friend Orochimaru is holding the fort. He was worried about Tsunade.
Seeing Jiraiya lost in thought, Elder Fukasaku slapped his back with a rod and he came back to reality.
"Oh, where was I. Right, you asked me if you can work in the medical area? I will ask if there's any. The medical area is the most gruesome area you can work, be sure to steel your mind if you really want to work there." Jiraiya said as Ren nodded and Jiraiya finally left.
