"I love you, Darenn, but I'm sorry… I decided to sacrifice myself for the people."
When Aranea saw this part, she could not help but feel the immense pain and sadness both of them felt when they decided to part away from each other.
However, what Aranea felt deep in her heart was how Darenn felt.
Tears immediately formed in her eyes, escaping from the corner of her eyes.
When Professor Grisham, the familiars, and her twin sister Elenea saw her this way, they started to worry about her, wondering what she could be crying about.
"Aranea?"
Elenea immediately rushed to her side. She wiped her tears away in consternation and at the same time worry.
"Why are you crying? What happened? You were on a daze and then suddenly, you're crying!"
When Aranea heard what her sister had said, Aranea still felt the pain in her heart. She spoke in between sobs, answering her question as what she said surprised the familiars, especially Professor Grisham.
"I-I…" Aranea coughed, making Elenea pat her back. "I saw… faint parts of their… memories."
Hearing this, Professor Grisham immediately approached her, worried about what he heard.
"Seeing into other people's memory is rare. Are you alright, Aranea? Usually, people who possess this trait are empaths who possess magical abilities and often after they see into people's memories, they get intense headaches."
When Aranea heard this, she shook her head.
"I-I'm fine—no headache," she answered, Professor Grisham, sighing in relief.
"But she is a Summoner," Zann mumbled, enough for everyone to hear. "Does that mean she is an empath, too?"
"No, not necessarily," Professor Grisham answered, Leonel furrowing his brows.
"Then why did she see their memories? Why is it affecting Aranea so much?"
Elenea got a bottle of water from her bag. She gave it to Aranea, making her twin sister drink all of it in one go. Afterwards, she took a deep breath, already calming down as she was now comfortable of telling them what she saw.
"The story Professor Grisham told us is true," she started, getting everyone's attention. "The chieftain's daughter and her lover—I know their names."
Professor Grisham widened his eyes in astonishment, "You mean to say… that you saw their memories and have learned their names?"
Aranea nodded, "Yes. The chieftain's daughter is named Hyacinth, and her lover, Darenn."
She told everyone that she only saw the part where both of them parted.
Hyacinth told Darenn that she would sacrifice her life for the people and that's where the memory ended.
Hearing this, Leonel furrowed his brows.
"So… the start of the memory, it was already on the day she decided? And the ending was with her saying goodbye to him?"
Aranea nodded, answering her familiar's question.
"Yes," she said, "And other than that, I felt like I was pushed out of the memory because I was willing to see more—but it was like there was a strong driving force of wanting me out."
Aranea then looked at the gold coin that was on the pedestal, her eyes sad as she felt life in it.
"Do you think the memories that pained Darenn was kept inside this gold coin?"
Zann shrugged, "Maybe so. According to magical items, people's immense emotions can be kept in an object if possible—allowing it to linger for such a long time."
Hearing this, Aranea could not help but sigh. She then got the gold coin from the pedestal, feeling bad as she assumed that it was Darenn.
"Darenn… that guy. I felt how broken his heart was when Hyacinth told him that she would sacrifice her life for the people. I feel so bad for him."
With a tear escaping from her eye, she closed both of her eyes as she kissed the gold coin in her hand.
However, what happened next surprised everyone, as a bright brown light engulfed Aranea, making Professor Grisham and Elenea take a few steps back.
"Wh-what's happening!?" Elenea started to panic, "Aranea!"
Leonel and Zann, however, had both of their eyes opened wide. They looked at each other as they knew what kind of light was coming from the gold coin.
"Could this be… another familiar?"
When Professor Grisham mumbled to himself his assumption, Zann and Leonel nodded at him in unison. Elenea then furrowed her brows, not expecting what was happening inside the cave.
"So, you mean to say… my sister unknowingly summoned another familiar!?"
The bright brown light continued to surround Aranea. Slowly, the gold coin in her hand felt warm, making Aranea release it as another familiar sensation lingered on her lips, her eyes widening to see another man appear right before her.
'What the hell!? It's happening again?!'
The brown light slowly disappeared. The man before Aranea still had his lips on her, both of his arms wrapping around Aranea's waist as he pulled her towards him in one full force.
Aranea felt her face heating up—indicating that she may be blushing beet red! She then put both of her hands on the man's chiseled chest, pushing him away from her as she exclaimed her discomfort in a loud voice.
"D-Darenn!?"
It was the same man that she saw in the flash of memories. That brown hair, that brown eyes, that large body that seemed to belong to a powerful knight…
It's him! It's him, alright! It's Darenn—Hyacinth's lover!
Darenn smiled as he tucked some of Aranea's hair behind her ear. Aranea's body stiffened as the familiars felt uneasy with the affection the other man was showing towards her.
Aranea's twin sister, Elenea, seemed like she had her jaw on the ground, and as for Professor Grisham, it was like his eyes were about to pop out of its socket!
With Darenn still smiling at Aranea, he spoke as how Aranea knew him from the memory she saw—Darenn speaking only a limited number of words.
"Hey, Hyacinth."
"Two words," Aranea mumbled, only Darenn could hear. "You only speak in two words…"
Darenn furrowed his brows, "What's wrong?"
Aranea chuckled awkwardly, holding both of his hands around her waist to release herself from his hold and jokingly answered his question like how he spoke to her.
Aranea pointed at herself and said, "Not Hyacinth…"
Darenn then further knitted his brows together.
He saw the red hair… the green eyes… but she was wearing something different—wearing something odd compared to the clothes he saw in their town.
'Not... Hyacinth?'
When the tone of her voice finally registered in his brain, he noticed that the woman before him is indeed another person.
Obviously, not his Hyacinth.
