"I'm really proud of you, Claire," Alex told her once they were back in the car on the way to the rehearsal. "You worked hard for this."

Claire smiled at him. "I couldn't have done it without you."

Ethan rolled his eyes in the backseat. "Ugh, do you guys have to be so mushy? For the record, I'm proud of you too but apparently it only matters if it's coming from Alex because he's your favorite."

Ah, teenage hormones. They were so much fun to deal with.

"Of course it matters coming from you too! He's my favorite fiancé and you're my favorite son. You're both my favorite."

"That's not fair! What if you have another son someday and I'm not the favorite anymore? He has the benefit of being in a permanent position here while I can be replaced easily."
