Chapter 6: Chapter 5
They finally arrived at the air temple island, of the coast of the city, it was the complete opposite of the bustling city, here there was only a srene silence with a few monks and tenzin's family.
Tenzin brought Doran to introduce him to his family who were waiting for him inside the house near the temple, there was a little boy, 2 girls and a woman. "This is my wife, Pema, my two daughters Jinora and Ikki and my son Meelo".
"Hi, welcome to our house". Said pema as she gestured for Doran to sit. "Hi". said Jinora.
Ikki and Meelo were busy playing so after a quick peek they returned to their game.
"Thank you". Replied Doran. "My name is Doran, son of chief Kaolin".
"Ohh i didn't know you were the chiefs son, Tenzin merely mentioned that a waterbender was coming to live with us". Replied pema.
"His status has no effect here so i didn't think it was important to mention that, no offense". Said tenzin.
"None taken".
"Are you really a waterbender? is it like airbending?". Asked jinora as she formed a small sphere of air on her hand".
"Yes i am, and yes i think so it is just that i use water and you use air". He replied while he asto formed a sphere of water on his hand.
"Waauw can i do that too". Meelo and Ikki came to the table as food was served and saw that Doran had made a sphere of water.
"Only the avatar can bend other elements Meelo". said Tenzin.
"Now come eat and after that i'll show your room, rest and explore the island today and tomorrow we will explore the city, i heard from mother that you are an adventurer?". asked Tenzin.
"Yes although i haven't had any adventures, i hope to have some in this city and sooner or later i wish to also explore the world and see what it looks like". Doran replied as he ate.
After eating, Tenzin showed him to his room and left him to explore the island, he let the kids be his guide.
They first came up to the temple where a few monks were praying and others were writing on scrolls. "This is the Air temple, one of many around the world but because we are the only airbenders in the world, this one became a sort of a main temple, all sorts of scrolls come from other temples here and the monks copy it and store it in the temple". Said Jinora as she led him around the temple, Ikki and meelo both were playing outside because they felt it was boring.
Doran was looking around the place with shining eyes, as if he found a magical treasure of immeasurable value.
Soon enough they left the temple and continued on to the grounds were the airbenders practiced. "These are the meditating grounds, father said it's good for the mind to meditate wether you are an airbender or not, everyone can do it he said".
"I know, i always do meditate in the morning, Katarra made me start last year and it now has become a sort of way of life for me". He said.
"I wish i could train with grandma Katarra but too bad father is too busy here and we can't go there". Said Jinora as she led them around the grounds.
"I heard he would be going soon to teach the avatar, when i was there i heard she has become a menace to her teachers, soon she'll be able to defeat them". Said Doran as he looked at a sort of gates looking like things, they were in a circle facing every as if there was no path.
"Then i'll go with him if he is going". Said Jinora.
"This are airbending gates, we basically bend air to set motion to the gates and as they are in action we have to reach the other side without touching any of them, here let me show you".
Jinor bend a heavy blast of air and set motion to the gates and proceeded to enter calmly, she made small decisive movements eqch time when the gates turned so she could pass , she was calm and looked like she was one with the world and herself but unfortunately she was hit at the last gate, fortunately a sort of shield of air cushioned her fall to the ground so she only felt a stinging pain in her shoulder.
"Here let me help you". Doran came up to here and saw that she was in pain, he bended water out of his water pouch and couted it on her shoulders which then proceeded to glow blue-green.
"You are a healer?". Jinora was quite suprised when she saw his actions.
"Yes, Katarra didn't hold back with her training me the past year". He replied with a bitter smile on his face, just remembering the past year made him feel bitter.
