Chapter 26: Sign A Letter Of Disownment

"Zhao Xu!" Li Weiyin was a little surprised as she walked over to the man and analyzed his clothing. "Do you work here?"

Not expecting to run into a classmate from senior high, Li Weiyin's mood finally improved a little.

"I just finished my practice," Zhao Xu nodded as he looked at the container in her hand, "Did you come to deliver dinner to your father?"

The Li Family's matter was not a secret in Jin City, and those that knew Li Weiyin took particular notice of it. Zhao Xu knew that Li Weiyin's father was staying in this hospital, but he was not in his department.

"Yes," Li Weiyin smiled. But, due to the fact that they hadn't seen each other for many years and they were of the opposite sex, she didn't know what else to talk about.

Zhao Xu noticed and suddenly said with seriousness, "I ran into Han Qiu a few days ago."

Li Weiyin's expression changed and her hands tightened around the container, but she remained calm, "It's been 4 years. It's about time he's left prison."

Zhao Xu looked at Li Weiyin worriedly, "You need to be careful."

"Thank you." The night wind blew and Li Weiyin suddenly felt a bit cold on her back. "I need to go back. Let's chat again when we get the chance."

As soon as she turned around, Li Weiyin's expression turned serious.

Time certainly passed quickly. Han Qiu was already out of prison. Was he going to seek revenge on her?

4 years ago, she was the one that sent Han Qiu into prison. At just 18, his life received an unerasable stain.

By the time Li Weiyin returned to the hospital room, Li Jinzong had already fallen asleep. After covering him with a quilt, Li Weiyin grabbed a blanket and spent the night on the sofa.

The next morning, before Li Jinzong awoke, Auntie Hui arrived. Li Weiyin went straight home to have a bath and get some rest.

After eating the lunch she carefully prepared, she went to meet with Mrs. Xu.

Mrs. Xu had agreed to meet at Dingfeng Group, the headquarters of Xu Industries and a landmark building in Tianjn.

Standing under the magnificent building, Li Weiyin raised her head. The towering building stood under the blue sky with the sunlight refracting off its corners, stinging Li Weiyin's eyes.

Because she had an appointment, Li Weiyin walked straight into the reception room of the Chairwoman's office.

A pretty female assistant greeted her and after 10 minutes, she met with Mrs. Xu at the scheduled time.

Mrs. Xu was sitting behind her desk. She had short, loose hair and light makeup. On the surface, she looked like she was in her forties, but in reality, she was almost sixty.

Judging by her good appearance, it was clear that she was a gorgeous beauty when she was young. She did not have an intimidating presence, but still, one did not dare to act carelessly in front of her.

Li Weiyin analyzed Mrs. Xu and Mrs. Xu analyzed Li Weiyin.

Today she was wearing an off-shoulder lapel shirt with long sleeves and spaghetti straps, paired with blue jeans. On her feet, she wore a pair of snow-white canvas shoes, her hair was tied into a high ponytail, and she did not have any makeup on. She looked young, natural, and beautiful.

"Sit," Mrs. Xu said as she stretched her hand towards the chair in front of her.

Li Weiyin sat down in good faith before Mrs. Xu asked, "Do you have something you want to ask of me?"

Mrs. Xu was straightforward, so Li Weiyin did not beat around the bush either. "I want you to personally ask the Li Family to sign a letter of disownment with me."

Just as she lifted her cup and was about to moisten her throat with some water, Mrs. Xu paused. She carefully analyzed the young woman in front of her again; the young woman that appeared well-behaved and obedient.

She lowered her eyebrows and looked down, but did not find any trace of rebellion. Yet, the words that came out of the young woman's mouth were completely heartless.

Chapter 27: The Difference

"A letter of disownment?" Mrs. Xu was amused as she looked at Li Weiyin curiously. "Are you sure?"

Li Weiyin's expression was serious as she nodded her head, "Yes, a letter of disownment."

"Why?" Mrs. Xu interlocked her fingers and placed her hands gently on top of the documents on the desk.

"Isn't that the reason why you chose me?" Li Weiyin asked calmly without answering.

Mrs. Xu chuckled. Her eyes were calm and she did not look like she was concealing any feelings, "You are quite clever, but do you know my intention for you after you marry my son?"

This was Li Weiyin's first time facing someone of this caliber on her own. Mrs. Xu toned down her initial relaxed vibe. Li Weiyin was only 22 and she was there with a request so she did not force herself to remain calm. Instead, she lowered her eyes slightly.

"I think, your intention will be determined by my future performance."

If she was well behaved, Mrs. Xu had no reason to treat her badly. After all, she would be her legally married daughter-in-law.

If she had any sneaky ideas, she would most likely be swept out the front door.

And, if she acted wildly, a good ending would be prison, and a bad ending would be dying without a trace.

Similarly, if she was smart enough and she did not have any ulterior motives, she may well be trained into the next Mrs. Xu.

Mrs. Xu looked at her with praise, "You have exceeded my expectations."

"I simply want a family to look like a family," Li Weiyin said calmly.

Ever since she returned to the Li Family at 7-years-old, she had struggled to fit in. She had already tried, but she was now giving up.

So, she decided to marry into the Xu Family and use the 300 million yuan to cut all ties with the Li Family. Although she was doing it for her own interests, she was also sincere. The Xu Family was simple. They did not expect an exchange of sincere feelings, they just wanted to live in peace, free from calculations and disputes.

"Family..." Mrs. Xu mumbled this word as her lips unconsciously drew a gentle arc. "I have seen your sincerity. But, I must remind you that a letter of disownment has no legal significance."

Li Weiyin revealed a relaxed smile, "I believe that as long as the Xu Family is still standing, this letter of disownment will be more effective than the law."

No one disliked flattery, especially when it wasn't the young woman's intention. Mrs. Xu was in a good mood so she began to tease, "Since you know this. Then you should know that, as long as the Xu Family is still standing, this letter of disownment makes no difference."

"It may make no difference for you, but it makes a lot of difference for me," Li Weiyin emphasized.

"Oh?"

"What's the difference?" Mrs. Xu asked with interest.

"The difference is..."—Li Weiyin paused for a moment as her eyes cleared—"whether I define myself as a Xu Family member or a Li Family member."

Perhaps, she still had a slight trace of hope in her heart.

She wanted to know if her family would hesitate if they knew that they had to cut ties and sell her for money.

Cutting ties, especially a blood tie, was not an easy thing.

Even if one was ruthless enough to make the decision, they may not have the heart to actually do it.

She needed them to completely destroy her last bit of humble hope.

That was the only way she could treat them like strangers in the future.

Mrs. Xu had always thought of herself as a hard-hearted person. But, at that moment, as she looked at the delicate girl sitting in front of her, carrying everything on her thin shoulders, she suddenly felt a trace of pity.
