Chapter 12: Bears and Bees

All of the bees were charging at me once. I used my skill to increase my speed and avoid the attacks. "What's going on, why are they attacking you." Saliza asked.

I remember reading about this monster, they're called degar bees. There are three types of it, the worker bees, the soldier bees and the queen bee. The ones that are attacking me are the soldier bees who get hostile towards anyone who touches their honey.

Just to be sure, I summoned a rat and made it touch the honey. All of the bees immediately directed their attention towards my rat and started attacking it.

The soldier degar bees aren't venomous, but their stingers are strong enough to break rocks with ease.

These bees don't have any clear weak spots, but they would immediately attack anyone who touches their honey. I can use that against them.

"Guys, did you see how the bees reacted when my rat touched the brown substance?" I yelled while running away from the bees. Serith quickly caught on to what I was planning and summoned a rat.

Serith told Saliza what to do and asked her to wait near some of the honey on the floor. He made his rat touch the honey.

The bees stopped chasing me and started charging towards the rat. When the bees were close, Saliza used her skill called flame slash to cut through all of them.

Serith and I went over to make sure that the bees were really dead before scanning the bodies.

*Scan completed, D rank monster added.*

Saliza stuck her finger into the honey and sniffed it before putting it in her mouth.

"That's all of them right?" She asked as she kept putting honey into her mouth. We looked around and saw no degar bees so it's safe to assume that there aren't any more of them nearby.

"Does any one of you have something we could put all these honey in? We could sell it or eat it if we brought it back to the headquarters."

I looked at the honey and pondered if I should taste it. The honey looks pretty unappealing to me, but I've only been eating curry on rice for more than a week now and I'm starting to get sick of it. I'm thankful that I'm getting meals for free but eating the same thing every day is making me feel sick.

I hesitated but decided to try the honey. The honey was very sweet. It's surprisingly good.

I started putting a lot of it into my mouth and I even wanted to lick the honey off the grass.

"We need to be on guard guys, there could be a monster nearby." Serith said. He's right, grus rats might start appearing soon. Reizo definitely won't let our training only consist of fighting a couple of bees, and I was right when I saw a doruso creeping up behind Saliza. I forgot that those monsters enjoyed eating this honey, so they were probably attracted by it.

"Behind you!" Saliza turned around and saw the doruso who was about to bite her. She quickly moved backwards to dodge the attack and ready her axe for another fight with one of these monsters.

We already knew the weaknesses of a doruso, so dealing with one shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately for us, a second doruso appeared behind the first one.

I tried what I did last time and threw a summoned rat into the air. Both of the monsters turned their attention towards the rat. I used my skill to enhance our speed and Saliza rushed at the first doruso. Now that Saliza was faster, she should be able to attack the doruso before it could block her.

The second doruso noticed Saliza who was about to use her skill and blocked her before she reached the first doruso. Then the first doruso used its claws to slash Saliza across her face.

Serith and I quickly rushed in to help her. I made my rat move in front of the bears and hiss at them to get their attention. Serith grabbed Saliza and ran away from the monsters while I focused on making my rat lead the dorusos away from us.

We tried to hide in a nearby bush, but the bush suddenly came to life and started attacking us with vines. Great, even the bush is a monster.

There was something red glowing in the middle of the bush. Serith protected the wounded Saliza from the vines while I hacked away the vines. I noticed the glowing red thing in the bush and thought that it might be some sort of heart or brain. The dorusos will return soon so I took a gamble and let some of the vines hit me while I drove my sword into the bush.

I managed to pierce the glowing red thing which resulted in the bush and its vines turning grey and decaying.

We couldn't hide in any bush now because we didn't want to risk encountering anymore bush monsters. We had to prepare for the dorusos out in the open. I used my last skill usage to heal Saliza's wounds while thinking about what to do. We can't defeat the two dorusos by fighting both of them at the same time. We need a way to kill them one at a time.

The only way to separate them is to distract one of them and attack the other. The rats that we summon won't be able to distract one of them long enough for us to kill the other. We need someone to distract the other.

"How are we gonna beat them?" Saliza asked after I finished healing her. I told them that we needed someone to distract one of the dorusos. Saliza volunteered to be the distraction and said that she will distract one of them since she's the fastest among us and can run faster than the doruso.

When the dorusos returned, Saliza started yelling and running to get their attention. The dorusos began chasing after Saliza. Serith and I attacked one of the dorusos with our weapons to force it to fight us.

The other doruso saw us and tried to attack us, so Saliza whacked it with her axe to get its attention and make it chase her.

Now I needed a way to attack the belly of the doruso. It's going to be hard to do that with just the two of us. Serith summoned a rat and threw it into the air to distract the doruso. The doruso didn't bother looking at the rat and charged straight at us.

We started swinging our weapons at the doruso but our attacks were ineffective against its tough skin and arms. The doruso swung its arm at me, but Serith managed to grab its arm and prevent it from hitting me.

The doruso tried to attack Serith with its other arm so I quickly grabbed it and stopped it from hitting Serith.

"Pull its arm to its back!" I yelled. The both of us were able to pull its arm backwards and expose its belly. We needed someone to attack the doruso, but Saliza was still being chased by the other doruso and if she came to us, she would also lead the other doruso to us.

We can't hold the doruso for long since it was beginning to push us backwards so we needed to finish it quickly. I saw the corpse of the bees that Saliza killed earlier and remembered that I had already scanned it.

Degar bees are D ranked monsters so my lv was high enough to summon it. The stinger of the bees could pierce through rocks so it should be able to cut through the belly of the doruso with ease.

I summoned a degar bee and made it stab the doruso's belly while we held back the doruso with all of our strength. I finished it off by making the bee drag its stinger through its belly and spilling its guts all over the floor. Now that one of the doruso is dead, we can focus on dealing with the other which was still chasing Saliza.

I made my bee fly towards the other doruso and stab its back with its stinger. The stinger wasn't able to completely pierce through the skin of the doruso, but it was able to hurt the monster. The doruso stopped chasing Saliza and tried to shake the degar bee off its back.

"Grab its arm!" Serith and I were running towards the doruso. Saliza quickly grabbed one of its arms while Serith grabbed the other. They both pulled its arm backwards while I used my sword to cut open the belly and kill it.

"Please tell me that's all of them." Saliza was trying to catch her breath after being chased by a doruso. "Yes, that's all of them. You three can go for your break now." Reizo was standing right behind us and started me.

"Doesn't training usually last for hours before you let us go for a break?" Serith asked. It's strange that we're getting a break now since all we did was fight a bunch of bees and dorusos. We didn't even encounter a single grus rat.

"You will no longer need to fight any grus rats but there will be new monsters lurking around here. When you three have defeated all the monsters I want you to defeat, I will let you all off for a break."

I'm not too sure how to feel about this. Training won't be as tiring as before now that we don't have to fight grus rats all day, but it's going to be more dangerous, and we'll gain less exp without grus rats.

I might as well start reading the monster encyclopedia to prepare for what's to come.
