Chapter 5: New clothes, New life

Lev and Kaz were being adopted on the very same day. They washed up and clean themselves— free from dirt, wore fresh white shirts and clean khaki shorts. The orphanage had only one outfit that they let the orphans wear. Hundreds of those clothes are piled up on the laundry room, waiting to be singled out by the maids for the children, who messed their clothes dirty, to be worn.

Outside, children surrounded the flashy, blue car, amazed by the technology that visited them. In the country of Zurland, cars were only seen in the city of Geneva, which was a global city, the center of trading and businesses, and have multiple international organisations. Though technology such as cars were not allowed to roam around the country unless it had special permission from the government. Zurland wanted to maintain cleanliness and be a pollution-free country. So the way of transportation there were either bicycles or by riding a train which goes around the country, village-to-village. Villages were ruled by village chiefs and around them are beautiful scenery of trees, lakes, mountains, alps, and some few waterfalls.

Lev and Kaz walked out of the entrance with their heads held high, leaving the world where they grew up. The couple were standing beside the car, doors opened, waiting for the two to enter.

"Aren't you bringing any extra clothes or kinds of stuff?" Mr Greya asked, noticing the empty-handed boys that were walking towards them.

"Nope. We entered the orphanage with nothing so we will leave it the same way," Kaz answered in a cheery voice.

"I guess we'll pass by some shop to buy some new pair of clothes for them," Mrs Greya said.

The orphans, maids, caregivers and the owner waved their hands as the car departed away from them.

On the way, Mrs Greya formally introduced herself and her husband.

"My name is Honey, Honey Greya, and the man with the beautiful face here is named Paul," Honey teasingly introduced. She had a sweet personality just like her name. "First, we will buy some warm and good-looking clothes, especially you Lev, make sure to pick a jacket because the village where my sister lives is surrounded by alps."

"Uhm, thank you," Lev nervously replied.

"And if other people asked regarding about your hair, just tell them that you let your hair dyed. That's all," Paul added.

Kaz raised an eyebrow as he curiously asked, "Can a hair die?"

Paul openly laughed. He was amused while Kaz was confused. "No, no. You misunderstood, it's D-Y-E, not D-I-E," he spelled.

It was written all over Kaz's face the "I still don't get it" look. He was still confused. Even though he was smarter than the other orphans, but the fact that he was just a kid who still has a lot to learn was impossible to set aside.

"Hair coloring, my dear," Honey said with a sweet smile.

"Oh." Kaz nodded, delighted by the new knowledge he learned.

"But will the people in the village believe it?" Honey turned her head, her straight-edged nose and thin lips that were decorated with pink lipsticks and supplemented with her large, worried eyes made her cute and innocent.

Paul thought for a while and finally answered, "Some will and some won't. Just tell them that he came from the city of Geneva."

It was normal for people in the city to color their hair. It was a new trend and it became popular around the world. But of course, Lev and Kaz didn't know this because back in the mansion there were no T.V. or other technology. Matilda believed that it would only spoil the kids and they would get addicted to it, leading to an unhealthy life.

After some get-to-know-each-other talks, the car entered a village named Geneville, which was just beside the city of Geneva. They stopped right in front of a clothing store, parked the car, and entered the shop. Inside was no different from a normal store. On the left were rows of various jackets and coats, the middle section were shirts with different sizes, colors, and designs. Trousers and jeans were also in the middle but they were placed behind the shirts. On the right side were dresses, and pinned against the wall were boots and leather shoes.

Lev and Kaz were awe-struck. They never have been on a place such as this, where piles of thick garments hung in rows and shoes that were decorated in the walls.

Kaz looked at the couple with shimmering eyes and an open mouth smile. He never has been this excited in his entire life. Lev was just standing there, dumbstruck. The couple, with arms around their waist, smiled and nodded their heads, signalling them to go and choose what clothes they wanted.

"Let's go!" Kaz said with excitement as he ran towards the left section, leaving Lev with the couple.

The moment Kaz left him he began panicking, he quickly chased after Kaz and began choosing what jacket suited his taste.

They roam around the shop, sightseeing and comparing clothes. They went to the shoe section and Kaz gave Lev a piece of advice:

"Pick bigger sized shoes, not just the shoes but also the jacket, pants, and shirt, we're still kids and we still have a lot of room to grow."

Lev considered Kaz's advice and picked a bigger size in every clothing.

After a while, Lev and Kaz reunited with the couple. What they saw made them laugh: Lev and Kaz held the shoes in one hand, shirt in the other, pants that were awkwardly hanging on the arms and a jacket that was grotesquely worn.

"Kids will always be kids," Paul chuckled.

Honey just laughed it off and said, "Come, let's go to the counter to pay."

They went to the counter and placed all the garments they were carrying at the desk.

The salesperson scanned the barcodes with the barcode reader while Lev and Kaz were mesmerized at what the salesperson was doing.

"A total of €93," the salesperson presented the receipt while saying in a monotone voice.

After paying, Honey leaned over and handed the plastic bags to the boys and suggested, "Try changing your clothes with the new one that we just bought."

They took the plastic bags and walked towards the changing room.

Kaz was the first that came out, he wore an oversized light brown trench coat that was reaching below his knee, a loose, brown and white checkered polo and lazily hanging around his neck was a light yellow scarf. He wore a light blue winter jeans and a winter leather boots. He wore mismatched colors but his clumsiness had a charm on its own. The young ladies that were shopping and sightseeing saw Kaz and they complimented him:

"What a cute boy."

"He'll grow up handsomely for sure, even oversized clothing with mismatched color looks great on him."

The couple were satisfied with what they heard, this was what they wished for— a boy that quickly catches the attention of others.

Lev followed, wearing an oversized dark grey jacket with the hood on, under the hood was a black knitted winter hat which covered most of his hair. Underneath the jacket was a black sweater with a light brown scarf that was nicely wrapped around his neck, along with coal-black pants and a black winter boots.

Lev was fully wrapped with multiple layers which will surely keep him warm. He specifically chose a jacket with a hood and a winter hat to hide his hair.

After dressing up, they left 'Karfigan's Winter clothing' and drove off to the village where Lev was going to live.
