Aliyah Crafter

The car ride was relatively quiet because it was quite early in the morning. We arrived at the academy 20 minutes later and we walked out. Har grabbed my luggage and we both started walking up the steps to the shared courtyard. There weren't a lot of people here because it was a saturday. It was early November so the weather was a bit chilly, I pulled my cloak a little closer to me. "Let's drop your luggage at your dorm first." Har suggested and started walking towards the dorm buildings. As we walked I pulled out my phone from my bag and checked my email. In there was an email sent by the school which included my schedule and dormitory info. We arrived in front of the dorm buildings. "I'm in dorm building B, floor 11 room 1125." I read off my phone. Oh, my roommate's name is Aliyah Crafter, a first year student of the medical academy. I wonder what she's like.

Har nodded and we strolled to the farther girl's dorm building and entered it. The inside looked more like a high end hotel then a school dorm. The first floor was a lounge area with different seats and coffee tables. There was also a bar that served both alcoholic drinks and non-alcoholic drinks. across from the bar was also a small cafe counter that selled snacks and bagels. There wasn't a receptionist because dorms would only open to a designated person or persons' mana.

Even though all mana works the same way and can technically be used in the same ways, the mana itself differs from person to person. So the door only unlocks when it reacts with the mana of the person chosen. A sample of the mana from that someone, which is taken during the entrance test, is put into a compartment in the door. And when the mana reacts with the mana from the person the door unlocks. The mana reacts with one another when the person has the urge to open the door. Even people who can't channel or manifest their Mana could still have their mana react with itself.

We walked down a corridor and called for an elevator, getting in I pressed the 11th floor. "I forgot to ask, how was mother and father?" she asked. "Uhm… they were as usual" I answered looking down. She sighed and patted my back. It was a habit of hers to pat my back to comfort me. She, on multiple occasions, argued with my parents about their blatant favoritism and how they act towards me. She really was an amazing sister. *ding* the elevator signalled our arrival. Snapping out of my thoughts I walked out and followed Har to my dorm room. We stopped in front of a door with a number plate that read 1125. I put my hand on the door and whispered unlock. The door opened to what looked like the living room. Then the door to the right opened and a girl appeared around my height. She had short wavy black hair and a cheerful smile on her face. "Hello you must be Lydia Raven" she exclaimed, "I'm Aliyah Crafter, it's good to meet you" she walked over to me and shook my hand. Her presence was so bright it was almost overwhelming, but it was kinda refreshing. I glanced behind me and har wasn't there but my luggage was left on the ground. I turned towards Aliyah to see her smiling at me.a small smile formed on my face as I also shook her hand, "yeah, it's a pleasure to meet you Aliyah."

Her smile brightened, I almost had to cover my eyes. "Here, I can help you pack," she said, grabbing one of my luggages. "Thank you" I replied and also grabbed the last luggage. We walked through the door on the left and came into a room that seemed to be my bedroom. It was a plain room that had a white dresser, a white desk, a white bed, and white curtains over the window. The walls were painted a light grey color and there was a bathroom as well. "The rooms are the same, just a little different arrangement" Aliyah pointed out. She laid down my luggage and started to unzip it. "Thank you again Aliyah," I said, also unzipping the luggage I was carrying. "Call me Liyah," she said looking at me expectantly. She's like a kitten, cute. "Ha ha, Sure. Thank you Liyah" I chuckled while taking out the clothes. Her whole face lit up and clapped her hands. "Hmmm, lydia doesn't really have a nickname. Oh oh oh, how about ly ly?" she asked, tilting her head. Yep, definitely a kitten. "Ly ly sounds fine" I answered and saw her bounce up and down excitedly. Conversation flowed easily between us as we talked about our academy, siblings, and other things. She was extremely cheerful, but she didn't seem to be as childlike as I first thought. Don't get me wrong she's still a kitten, but she also seems to know when to be more serious.

We finished packing my stuff and put away the luggage in a storage closet in the living room. "We should probably buy some groceries" I suggested, seeing the empty refrigerator. "That sounds good, and we could also get you some stuff your room" Liyah added. "Sure" I said and grabbed my bag and cloak. I opened my bag and rummaged through it. Finally finding my phone I took it out and checked for any texts. There was a text from Har and Aria which made me smile. There was also a notification from mother, my expression transformed into one of disdain. They usually don't contact me unless they need me to do something.

I opened Har's text first, she told me to call her when I'm done getting to know my roommate. Smiling, I responded and told her that I'll be going shopping with Liyah for a bit. She started to reply, surprisingly taking awhile. She texted that she'll see me later.

Next I looked at Aria's text where she asked if I made it to my dorm. I said yes, she probably won't respond until after her morning duties. Lastly I opened my mother's text. What read was, "hello Lydia, your father and I have decided to have you debut in the spring. You've come of age and joined the academy, so we believe it's time you start contributing to the Raven house. Your debut event will happen during the spring royal hunt, where you'll participate. We'll send Mr. Tricket to tell you more of the details. Also remember don't bring shame on the Raven name." A bitter smile swept over my face. They delivered the news of my debut through a text , when it's usually done through a banquet. And instead of coming themselves to talk about my debut they'll send one of father's advisors. On top of all that she warned me not to do anything shameful, my mood dropped. Is someone's blood that big of a difference?
