Chapter 48: General Rochester's Decision

"Tell me Maurul, owner of some of the best private institutions across Country A; who am I?"

Maurul's shoulders that were beginning to relax tensed up again. "General Rochester, what are you trying to get at?"

"Yes, I am General Rochester, one of the greatest military tacticians in history, as well as the best tactician in the modern world. Any country would fight like wild animals for me if I ever decided that I was tired of being the military advisor of Country A." Mr. Rochester chuckled humorously as he set his elbows on his desk and propped up his chin with his entwined fingers.

He smiled.

His emerald eyes that locked onto Maurul were overbearing and full of confidence.

"General Rochester has much more power than you might think."

Maurul felt cold sweat dripping down his back.

Yes, indeed. He had forgotten that the man he was dealing with was no ordinary military advisor. This man was the best military advisor in the world! One reason for Country A's undefeatable military!

The government would do anything for this man, to keep him from betraying the country. Unless it was absolutely necessary, they would never want to displease him!

His significance far outweighed that of Maurul's. Maurul imagined that any of his influential customers or friends would be unhesitant in abandoning him to get on General Rochester's good side.

Inwardly, Maurl gnashed his teeth in frustration. On the outside, he showed a large, sincere smile while smoothing the whiskers on his face. "Rochester, how can I be unaware? I have never once belittled you, nor do I have any intention of going against your wishes. It is my pleasure to be working with you."

Facing Mr. Rochester, who seemed to have no intention of speaking, he continued. "I will send you the files after this call is over. Is there anything else?"

"…"

"… Ok then. I'll hang up. Call me over for a drink sometime, yeah?" Less than a second after he said those words, Maurl's face on the screen flickered away, leaving Mr. Rochester's office completely void of illumination.

Slowly, light re-entered the room from the ceiling.

Mr. Rochester sat back in his chair, deep in thought.

He didn't make that call on an impulse. There was a myriad of reasons behind it besides trying to make Carlos happier by weeding out the bullies that intimidated his son.

He calmed himself.

This move told the world that Carlos is still the heir of the Rochester family and that he had not given up on him as had many thought he did.

In addition, the fact that those children dared to bully his son meant that they not only belittled Carlos, but that they also belittled Mr. Rochester's authority.

Children don't learn to persecute specific people on their own; they have to learn to do so from observing their surroundings. It is the parents' responsibility to teach their children; and the children would subconsciously mimic their parents.

Once they learnt from their parents that Carlos was the son of a very important person and that they can't displease him, they would naturally fawn over him.

However, if their parents showed blatant disrespect to Carlos, then they will do so as well.

Pulling out these children that bullied his child would be a show of power against their influential parents. It shows that the name of 'best military advisor' is not merely a pretty vase to be admired; it shows that he is a sleeping tiger not to be provoked.

Just because he did not show his power frequently did not mean that he did not have power.

With this, I will be stepping into the stage of politics and society, Mr. Rochester thought quietly. Even though it was a well-known fact that he supported President Hancock, he never expressed firm opinions on any of the decisions made in the government.

By giving this show of power, he would be offending people from some very major institutions. Without demonstrating his place in politics, Mr. Rochester was afraid that he would eventually be alone in society, without any support.

While this didn't matter to him, who was already a very important asset to the government, his children could be negatively affected.

For example, Eyrie, who was the most successful out of the three. Although she made an enormous amount of money, she was still a far cry from those true tycoons.

If she suddenly died, there will definitely be a ripple in the economy, but it won't be large enough to cripple it.

In short, she wasn't important enough to be a major asset to the government. While she is rich, Eyrie doesn't have much actual power in society – similar to many other wealthy people.

Meanwhile, almost every child that attended Maurul's academies belong to a family that has status equal to or higher than Eyrie's.

In addition, those that bullied Carlos looked down on the son of General Rochester. This meant that without a doubt, they belonged to a family that is confident enough to take on the Rochester name.

Families like that could destroy Eyrie's business with just one command.

Mr. Rochester sighed and cast his gaze onto the glowing projection that newly appeared before him.
