Chapter 21: Death

"Un." Jie Xiulan consented to Lin Shen's plan. She didn't have any fighting experience so she would only be dragging him down.

She remembered something and reached through her pockets, before taking out a few slips of paper. She handed them to Lin Shen and said, "These are water based offensive talismans that my father personally made. Just inject your Qi into it while aiming it at your target."

Lin Shen took the talismans hesitatingly. "Xiulan, what about you? Don't you need these too?"

"Nope. These are actually for you. I don't have Qi so my father made these explosives instead." She held up a few pebble-sized balls to prove her point.

"Ok that's good. Just use those to protect yourself." Lin Shen was relieved that she had more than just defensive talismans to protect herself. He knew it would be easier to beat the killer using the explosives, but those were for Xiulan. She had already given him a few talismans to protect himself anyway.

He inspected the water based offensive talismans in his hands. This element was the opposite of his, was it not? Would he be able to activate it using his flame type Qi? But no, a human's body is 70% water…

'Ahh!' Lin Shen just gave up overthinking. He might as well just try it. Surely Uncle had already thought about this problem?

The assassin noticed the interaction between them since they didn't intend to hide it. He seemed to be surprised seeing the talismans. Actually, he could remember having encountered them before in a mission and almost dying. It was only because he was so weak that he was actually spared. He didn't think these brats would be in possession of them!

Getting anxious, he immediately aimed at Lin Shen's head and fired.

Puit!

The sounds of a suppressed gunshot flew towards Lin Shen's head, only to be met with some kind of resistance.

The assassin's eyes widened in surprise. "Blocked?!"

'Ow…' Lin Shen lightly touched his forehead. The bullet couldn't penetrate through the layer of defense but since it was so thin it managed to hurt his skin. It was only a little pain though so he quickly recovered.

"Go!" He didn't forget to remind Jie Xiulan to run, which the latter did. The assassin attempted to stop her by aiming at her legs, but he activated a defensive talisman instead.

Lin Shen didn't miss this opportunity and had already rushed towards him. The split second when the assassin tried to shoot down Jie Xiulan provided him enough time to approach the killer.

He tackled the killer and made him lose his footing, but that only lasted a while before the latter regained his balance. He immediately raised his right leg and kicked at Lin Shen's chin, who wasn't able to react in time.

"Sh*t."

Lin Shen rubbed his chin in pain. He swore he could taste blood in his mouth. If he didn't close his mouth fast enough then he might've bitten his tongue off.

Thankfully the gun had dropped from the assassin's hand. Since it was currently night time, the visibility was low and the gun was nowhere in sight. Lin Shen could see the gun was right behind the assassin though.

Now was the perfect chance to use the talisman. He stepped back to gain some space away from the assassin and activated one of the talismans, sending his Qi into it and then aimed at the target. A stream of gushing water appeared from the talisman and spiraled towards the assassin.

The latter immediately turned tail to run, but perhaps as if by fate, he tripped on the gun that he dropped earlier and fell down.

"Oof!"

The spiral of gushing water continued flying towards its trajectory, completely missing its target. Since there were no targets in its path and it was running out of Qi, the water spell dispersed and disappeared.

"..."

Why were talismans so unreliable? Lin Shen had aimed the talisman and it shot water, but he couldn't control the direction after aiming so he could only watch as the assassin 'evaded' the attack.

"Eh? I'm alive?" The assassin mumbled to himself as he inspected his body. "Sh*t I'm alive!" He couldn't believe the talisman actually missed him! He thanked his lucky stars and quickly grabbed the gun near him and shot multiple times at Lin Shen.

Puit! Puit! Puit!

Three shots flew towards the same spot on Lin Shen's head, who didn't have enough time to react.

The assassin was smart enough to aim for the same spots since it would weaken the defense. Unfortunately, although it took a few milliseconds to repair the break in the defence, Lin Shen still had plenty of Qi left to repair it. He sustained a few 'ows' but he shrugged them off.

Seeing as the gun was ineffective, the assassin threw it away and ran towards Lin Shen for close combat instead. He had managed to hurt Lin Shen once so maybe it'd work? The distance between them wasn't wide so he quickly approached Lin Shen.

Lin Shen stuffed away the talismans since he couldn't activate them in such close range. He dodged a fist coming straight at his face but felt an impact, his legs losing balance.

The assassin had more experience in fighting than Lin Shen did so he knew how to use feints. He stepped over the fallen boy and said, "Damn brat! How dare you scare me like that!"

Bam!

He punched Lin Shen in the face as he kept cursing.

"Bastard!"

Bam!

"I almost died!"

Bam!

Every punch came at Lin Shen in full force with no stop. He could feel his Qi defense breaking punch after punch, yet he could only repair it to reduce the damage.

Blood flowed from his nose and lips as the tissue holding them broke. His head was also dizzy from the continuous punches, making him unable to think. Sound seemed to be so faint in the background as the assassin's trained fist came at him.

Only when there were no movements coming from him did the assassin stop. "Is he dead?" Blood was all over the road and covering the boy's head.

Lin Shen could faintly feel an itch spreading throughout his whole body as his regeneration started.

"The hell…?"

The assassin gazed at the sight of Lin Shen's spasming body. There were twitches here and there, mostly at Lin Shen's face. Some muscles seemed to be moving as if snakes had invaded his skin.

While the assassin was flabbergasted, Lin Shen's mind regained their clarity soon enough. His nose and lips were still bloody though and took a while to repair.

The assassin stood still, unsure if this was some sort of illness or the target was truly dead.

Taking this opportunity, Lin Shen grabbed the assassin's legs and started squeezing with all his strength. He remembered his Qi had destructive properties so he channeled it from his hands to the assassin's neck, thinking of 'Destroy'.

"What the..!"

Heat transmitted through his pants towards his legs as he felt imaginable pain. He couldn't take it and lost his balance immediately while Lin Shen's hands were still grabbing hold of his legs.

There was a fiery gaze in Lin Shen's eyes as he channeled more and more destructive Qi into the assassin. He had almost died from the beating he received, and there was one thing you should know about Lin Shen.

He was extremely petty. He was usually a passive person minding his own business, but whenever people antagonized him, he would hold a small grudge against them. However his interactions with people were usually very limited, and most of them happened in games. Every time someone attacked him in games, he would take a screenshot of their name in case he forgot them. Then when he was strong enough he would trail them and repeatedly attack them to the point it became 'spawn killing'.

Now this assassin had beat him so much he almost died. He made the pain the assassin would feel unimaginable by spreading his Qi upwards towards the groin.

"Ahhh!"

The assassin sprawled on the ground as his balls were being cooked alive. That wasn't the end of it though. Lin Shen would retract his Qi and just when the assassin was feeling relieved, he would send the Qi back towards the balls once again.

Since his hands were grabbing onto the assassin's lower leg, the Qi had to travel upwards to the groin, so the legs were also being burned.

"Kuah..ah..a.."

After a while, there were no more sounds coming out of the assassin as he completely stopped moving.

Lin Shen stopped channeling Qi and let go of the assassin. He gasped for breath and coughed up blood. He had actually used up his Qi and was just pushing himself.

His gaze was on the dead assassin as the feeling slowly settled in, a terrible nausea rushing through his head.

He...killed someone.
