Chapter 42: Their sorrow and grief had no boundaries...

"It's a dream, everything will be fine when I wake up", she kept repeating to herself.

She was unable to accept the reality.

It was the time for funeral of Karthik, the most devastating event that the family could least expect or to happen. Madhusudan and Madhavi's pain had no boundary line.

"How could fate be so cruel to them?", people thought when they saw at the corpse of Karthik.

Manasa and Sunaina arrived before Kruthika's arrival to home, they tried to console Kruthika. They were with her throughout the day.

"Why did this happen to him?", Kruthika repeated the question to her best friends, she shed her tears. Her eyes got swollen and became red.

What could they even answer to her, they just thought to remain silent. They felt very sorry for her loss and they were helpless.

"Fate could have taken my life instead of his!!", Kruthika yelled, her heart just got crushed everytime when she looked at the photos of her beloved brother Karthik which was hung in their room.

She was going insane. She didn't attend the funeral, she couldn't see her brother's corpse burning in fire, she couldn't see her father giving fire to the body of his own son.

Which should have been reversed. No parents should see they their child death before their eyes, no other torture can be equal to the pain when parents see their child dying infront of their eyes.

Madhavi and Madhusudan did no wrong to anyone and so did Kruthika and Karthik. She cursed the fate, cursed her life.

"Kruthika! Control yourself. Everything will go right after some time. Time can heal anything", Sunaina tried to console her friend.

"But it can never give my beloved brother back to me. Good, brave and kind hearted son to my parents. It's not fair what happened with him! Sunaina it's really not fair", Kruthika cried like a baby who was lost in desert.

"He was such a good brother, moreover he was like a friend to me. He used to give me such good advice whenever I was in dilema about what to choose. He used to tease and mock me like anything, he used to irritate me a lot. God I miss him", Kruthika continued with sobbing.

"I was the one who always find anything which disturbs him", Kruthika was confessing her memories to her friends but stopped and thought for a moment.

'He wanted to be a RAW agent, but he didn't know how to reach there. Soon after moving to Manipal, he asked me to write letters as a means of communication that too in different language again when read it should be in different language, to sum up two different languages in a single letter. Whereas he conversed using phone with parents. But why?

I never got a chance to ask him why a sudden change with me. Even though I asked, he always ignored my question. We have never spent time for a long with each other from the day we moved for different cities for higher studies.

He had many secrets with him. What were they?

He never discussed with about how would he try to reach there. Did he lie to me about this!

Wait in the first case I still don't know how he died! I should ask dad din after he returns from funeral alone with him.'

Kruthika thought, her thoughts were running like a lightning bolt in head.

"I didn't know how did this happen", Kruthika asked her friends wiping her tears.

"Actually... My father has forbidden me to know about this. He didn't answer my question even when I asked", said Sunaina being guilty, she was holding Kruthika's shoulders from behind and she was sitting beside her.

"Yeah.. Even my parents didn't reply to me. I just heard that he died because of electric shock", Manasa replied, she was holding Kruthika's right hand and she rubbed it frequently when Kruthika cried as an act of condolence.

"Electric shock! He was selected for army and was taking training there", Kruthika answered.

'Atleast that's what he said to us. May be there's something more in it. I've to find out what happened to him. May be postmortem report of his might help. But where will I get them!', Kruthika thought to herself. She didn't like to discuss such sensitive facts with her friends.

She stood up and stepped towards the drawing room. Her grandparents, school friends, Karthik's college friends were present to give condolence to the family and to have last look at him.

Karthik just mentioned about his roommate, who was also his classmate during his degree, Rohit.

She just stepped towards the group of young men to find Rohit and ask him about her brother. While Manasa and Sunaina had no idea of what she was doing they just stopped by her room door and looked at each other in questionable manner.

"May I know who's Rohit among you?", Kruthika asked to the men. She just knew the person's name was Rohit, but she didn't know how he looked.

"Yes, I'm Rohit", answered a man, he was wearing formals, a grey shirt and cream pant.

"I need to talk to you in private. Is that okay for you? To ask some questions regarding my brother", Kruthika said.

"Yeah... Sure", Rohit answered.

They both went to terrace, to have a private talk, actually investigation in Kruthika's view.

"I didn't have the opportunity to spend time with him after we moved to different cities for our studies. We only met face to face once or twice a year only during major festivals", Kruthika said as she took him to terrace.

"Yeah. He often said to me that he missed you a lot during our degree days", Rohit answered as he followed her.

"I need to know one thing, since you were his roommate,I think you would have observed him more than other of our classmates. Right!", Kruthika said once they reached terrace and made sure that no one would eavesdrop.

"What was his routine throughout thise degree days during classes and on weekends? Did he have any habits", Kruthika asked.

"He was a studious guy in the class, he used to hang up in library a lot, reading books not that of syllabus but spirituality and philosophy books. He just had a small circle of friends, most of the time it was just me. Not that he wasn't friendly with others, he infact helped everyone in class relating studies", Rohit answered gesturing his hands when required.
