Chapter 30: Chapter 29: Tristan
'No one wants me here. I'm a nuisance'
'Everyone hates me... Everything I do is wrong!'
'I'll fuck up everything and people are going to abandon me. I'm such a failure.'
Light had been trying so hard to get those thought of his mind after he saved Dierdre. She doesn't have a single cut- no scars on the outside either- but Light knew that the most dangerous ones are those who cannot release their tension that kept building up on themselves until it engulfed their entire existence.
'I think.....'
He felt a wild shock that stirred him when he heard a voice inside him again. It was very realistic that he turned around to see if there was someone whispering in his ears- but there was no one. He was alone in the road that was unfamiliar to him. He had been lost and drained because of the long journey he had taken when he followed Dierdre, not to mention his fall from a high bridge. Light was still dripping wet and he was feeling cold and sneezy.
'... that I have ceased to become a human.'
Light let in a gasp of terror and collapsed on his feet as he heard the words. It was pristine and it echoed inside his head in a scary way- and a wailing has started to clammor and make him shiver because of coldness and fear. His head was spinning hard and he could feel the fear that was ready to engulf him anytime when he surrenders- but there is one thing that kept him from losing his grip on his sanity- it was his mission.
"I-I have to help Hope." He said to himself and tried to stand up but his head just spinned more drastically as he did- and before he knew it, he had collapsed at the ground.
"What are you then if you are no human?" Cammy asked as if Ren could hear him- but Joy did not bother asking him because of the glare on his face was scary. It was as if Joy was talking to a different person and the Ren they have met a while ago was completely gone. Akuji might be the suicidal alter of Ren- but they were still unsure because he might have other alters that they have not encountered yet.
"Pardon me, but I don't have the appetite to eat." Akuji said and stood up- but the chair on his side caused him to trip. He quickly tried to get up- and he found Joy's arms are offered to him. She was smiling- and it was a smile that made him feel that he does not have anything to worry about- that he wasn't alone- and that she wouldn't run away.
"Are you okay?" Joy asked him and smiled.
"You know what I hate most?" Akuji asked and stood up on his own. "It's those humans who try to make me feel love. I hate love. It makes me want to be weak. I hate humans. I hate humans like you!"
Akuji ran away from her and Joy took her wallet to pay for the food. She did not bothered to get the change because her primary goal is to keep up with Akuji who was running so hard to be away from her. She ran fast and saw him standing still on the starting point of the steel bridge. He looked so lost.
"W-why am I-I here?" he asked. Joy ran to him and panted. She placed the both of her hands to his shoulders and looked at him directly into the eye. "You... What's happening?"
Joy hugged him tight and whispered into his ear. "It's alright, it's alright."
"I-I'm scared of myself. I felt like I am on a car on the backseat and I saw some things that happened but I am not in control of what I did." Ren said. Joy was sure that it was him because his tone and way of dealing people had all gone back. "I'm scared... What if I am just faking it?"
"No... Don't overthink it, I'm here... Its going to be alright. But first, we have to get you somewhere." Joy said and pulled away from the hug.
"Are you sure? Will everything be alright?" Ren asked, hoping for reassurance.
"Of course!" Joy said and smiled at him warmly to comfort his pain.
"Uhm... Are you okay?" a voice asked from Joy's back to which they turned around. "Can I help you?"
A man who was about in his 40's stood in front of them. He had gray hair and a lab gown that he didn't wore. It was resting on his arms while his shirt was an oversized tee. He was tall and he wore glasses.
"Hey, I know you." he pointed at Ren who seemed confused. "Who are you right now? You aren't Quiela?"
"Quiela? Who is that?" Ren asked.
"Oh, of course you don't know her yet, but soon you will." He told Ren. "I am Doctor Tristan. You are?"
"I am... Ren." Tristan looked at Joy.
"I am Hope." Joy said - however, Tristan looked at Cammy and smiled.
"You are?"
"Impossible! Can you see me?" Cammy asked, still shocked.
"Am I not supposed to see you when you are clearly standing beside her?" Tristan said- but his attention was shifted because he saw the neclace of Joy. "Oh, what wonderful necklace. Where'd you get it?"
"Oh, this? Sorry, but someone gave it to me." Joy answered.
"Oh, someone gave it to you huh?" Tristan said and let go of the questioning, but his mind was telling him another thing. "So Ren, Akuji was the one who ran away from me."
"What?" Ren asked him, but his mind is getting confused.
"Say, Hope, did your clock changed when he turned to Ren?" Tristan asked.
"How do you know that?" Joy asked him, "What are you?"
"Oh, I'm no one, but here's my calling card if you ever want to check Ren out again." he said an offered a tiny hard paper that contained his name. It said Psychologist.
"Ren? Let's go?" Tristan said and Ren reluctantly went to him.
"Where are you taking him?" Joy protested and made a barricade out of her body to stop Ren.
"Oh, Doctow Twistan!" Ren exclaimed and hurried to go to him while Tristan welcomed her with a warm hug. "I'm sowwy Akuji wan away."
"It's okay. Just thank this beautiful lady for bringing you to me." Tristan said but Joy wasn't paying attention because the hands of the clock on her neclace had disappeared even if Ren was in front of her.
"What's happening?" Joy said.
"It changed because Ren wasn't the mission. It's Akuji. Make sure to text me so I can update you when he fronts." Tristan said and left them. "You should go to the playground. You will see something interesting there."
