Nathan followed Light as they passed on the unfamiliar houses that comprised the small town. He loved to see the happy people because for the first time in his life, he can say that he can relate to the happiness they showed.
They both stopped at the cute bungalow that Light sneaked past. It looked small outside but when he was invited inside, he discovered that it was a 2-storey house that was wide enough to cater 5 people inside. Light gestured him to sit down the matte brown sofa.
"Who do you live with?" Nathan asked Light who enterred the room on the second floor.
"Myself." Light said and disappeared as he enterred the room. Nick stood up and ventured into the house. He can't stop admiring the cuteness of it- everything was matte brown- even the glasses and the dishes that were perfectly arranged in the shelf. However, his adventure was cut shortly after Light appeared again. He changed to his uniform and handed another set to Nathan who was wandering in his house.
"I was wondering if you want to come with me at school." Light asked. Nathan took the uniform he was offering. He took off his own uniform and he wore Light's above his white shirt. It fit him perfectly. Light saw his already healing cuts in his wrist.
"Let's go." Light said and they headed out.
"Shouldn't we bring our bikes?" Nathan asked, but Light just smiled at him.
Nathan couldn't stop wondering at the immaculate beauty of the wooden bridge above the stream, and the trees and lake that was calmly giving him a sense of peace that had tickled his heart. He placed his hand at his racing heart and smiled because it was the first time that he had felt alive. After a few minutes, he already saw the gate of Light's school and he realized why they left their bikes at his house. They sneaked past the gate the exact time that the bell rang.
"Won't you be in trouble for letting someone from another school enter the premises?" Nathan, who was nervous asked. Light did not look at him. Before he knew it, they had passed the first building, then the second which was in front of a huge field. They enterred the building and to Nathan's surprise, a gorgeous girl came dashing toward Light.
"Where were you at Math? Oh, sorry. You're already exempted from EVERYTHING." the girl noticed Nathan who was trying to hide at Light's back. 'Shoot. She saw me', Nathan thought he was going to blow a fuse because of the hotness he felt in his cheeks upon seeing the girl.
"Oh, who are you?" the girl asked. Before Nathan could even answer, the girl was already offering her hand to him. "I am Mari. Nice to meet you."
The girl smiled so wide that it made Nathan anxious because his paleness makes his blushing visible. He reached out his hand towards her and shook the hand she offered. "I-I am Nathan."
"Light! Mari!" a tall guy approached them, and for what Nathan saw, this guy was head over heals at Mari. He couldn't blame him.
"OH! HI!" the guy yelled and shook the hands of Nathan. "I'm Nick. You are?"
Nathan was no longer hiding behind Light because he felt accepted by Light's friends.
"Nathan." he replied.
"Let's go to the rooftop!" Nick exclaimed and placed his arms on Nathan's shoulder. Mari and Light followed.
'Oh, there they are, the perfect circle of friends.'
'Yeah! I heard that the other one was soccer team captain, while the other one answered the unanswerable question of the terror Math teacher.'
'I heard that the other one is Top 1 and editor-in-chief of our school paper, and Mari, that beauty was on Top 5 as well!'
The gossips were all over the place as they walked past the building. Nathan heard them and wondered who's who, and from what he had heard, there's the other one.
"So what school did you come from, Nathan?" Nick asked him as they arrived at the rooftop. "Ah! Nice weather!" he said and sighed. "It was so obvious when you tried to hide behind Light's back."
Mari was nodding hard and was almost laughing as she recoiled the scene a while ago. "You looked nervous." she said.
"Hey Light, you now know how to sneak people inside the school premises huh." Nick grinned while Light just looked at him, trying to mask away his smile.
"I'm from TLH." Nathan said. Nick seemed to be more interested.
"Woah! TLH? That school's our rival at soccer! I am Nick, the soccer captain, first of his name, the breaker of chains, the-"
"Top 3, the handsome, the best." Light and Mari spoke together, and the four of them laughed loudly. Nathan found himself socializing and it was a great surprise for him because all his life, he had been an introvert, but he felt like he belonged to Light's circle.
" What grade are you in?" Mari asked as she offered a deliciously looking sandwich to Nathan.
"Eweven" Nathan replied as he was chomping down his sandwich.
"We're batch mates then! Are you going to transfer to our school? We'd be classmates." Nick asked.
'Transfer? Here?' Nathan asked himself.
Just then, a girl, who seemed to be taller than Mari came out from the door. All at once, he felt like everything was on slow motion. Nathan's eyes were fixated on her ethereal silver eyes and he found himself drowning in the depth of those eyes. Her black hair was long that it reached her waist. She was also pale like himself- her facial features were so remarkably beautiful and he couldn't help himself but to admire her. However, he realized that the girl seemed to have a similar atmosphere with Light's.
'Could she be an angel too?' Nathan thought.
"Hi! I am Hope Joy. You can call me anything you want. Nice to meet you." She smiled at him.
'Hope Joy... Her two names were happiness and salvation, and Light's is luminance.' he thought as he realized that Light's eyes resembled the sun while Hope's the moon.
" N-Nathan."
" Are you the transferee every person below was talking about? It seems that you are because I remember that the people said the transferee was with all of you." She said and thrown the three quick glances.
"I-I'm no transferee. I'm an outsider." Nathan replied.
"Outsider? But you are with our circle now, Nathan, and you have been acknowledged as one of us." Nick smiled as ate his remaining sandwich.
"Who said that? The rumors?" Nathan asked, disappointment was evident at his tone.
"We." Light said. If Light was the one to say it, there has to be a sincerity underneath it. Nathan looked around him and saw that the other three had been shivering because of the coldness in his tone.
Nathan laughed loudly at the sight. He failed to realize that the other four had stopped moving and they were looking at him.
"W-why- I'm sorry." He murmured and looked down.
"Are you stupid?" Nick asked. "Why are you saying sorry? Bro~ it was the first time we heard you laugh after knowing you for millions of years!"
"The million years he was talking about was just a while ago." Hope explained and they laughed altogether.
It was just a tiny hint of happiness that Light needed and waited for to see at Nathan's eyes. He finally let out a good sigh- but the bell rang.
The four stood up exept Nathan- who seemed to be frozen at his seat.
"Come on, there's an empty seat by my side!" Nick said and pulled him away.
Nathan looked at Light with utmost gratitude. At first, he was a complete stranger, but now, he became his first friend, and then it expanded to Mari, Nick, and Hope. He found out that happiness had settled on his spirit and he splintered with them towards their room.
