Chapter 17: Chapter 17: All Will be Alright In Time

For the following moments, Light and Nathan just sat on the tree without saying anything to each other, but Nathan was relieved to have someone with a calm aura accompany him, whether by coincidence or not. He found Light easy to talk to, and there was something so trustworthy of him. Either way, he did not want to tell him anything about him because he was still afraid of being betrayed.

"Where were you from?" he asked Light. Little did he know that Light had also been thinking of something to say because they were both the quiet types and Light did not want to push him to speak about himself.

"From above." Light frankly replied. He looked at Nathan who seemed to have heard a funny joke. Nathan realized Light's gaze and showed an apologetic look.

"S-sorry... It's just that.. I've never heard of someone say that. Are you a full-pledged believer? Or if you say that you are from above, are you a fallen angel?" Nathan asked, still trying to hide his laughter but as he looked at Light who was still looking at him directly with those golden eyes, he thought that he really was projecting an angelic aura [in a weird way].

" If you say I am, then I am." Light replied without averting his gaze from Nathan who was creeped out and amazed at the same time.

"So you have wings too." Nathan asked. He meant to squeeze everything from the weird individual next to him to know why he was feeling something weird everytime he realize that he was with him.

"Nope, I don't. Those are for the people who have completed their mission." Light replied and held his necklace.

"What's that with you?" Nathan asked, pertaining to the necklace.

"Oh, this." Light showed him his necklace that had a frail glow and Nathan examined it.

"This is the most exquisitely beautiful necklace I have ever seen." Nathan said in awe as he held it and he found out how to open it. He saw a clock inside that showed 10:00. "Your clock is broken."

Light took the necklace away from him.

"Do you still have any questions?" Light asked him and tucked the necklace away.

"uhm... No.." Nathan replied.

Now its time for Light's investigation.

"Wait." Nathan said as he stretched his arms at Light who was supposed to speak. "What were you doing at my school?"

Light looked at him intently and thought of something to say to him. "I was... I... I..."

'I can't lie.' Light thought to himself he breathed hard and turned to face him again. "I was supposed to be there."

"Wha- what kind of answer is that?" Nathan frowned because he was able to sense Light's sincerity because of his eyes.

"You see, everything happens for a reason." Light said, looking at the dazzling sea again. "People meet other people for a reason too."

"I wonder why we met." Nathan replied to Light - but he wasnt pertaining to him. He was pertaining to the people that have bullied him at the school. There was never a day that he wasn't called names and embarrased because of the doings of other people. He never even had a friend to speak with- and meeting Light, a complete stranger had made him feel like he wasn't alone anymore. He felt like he could trust him with anything because the moment he showed up, he was already a friend to him. No one even dared to approach him because people were afraid of what the bullies might do to them- so they stayed away from him.

"The people you meet will definitely teach you a lesson- and trust me- they will change you." Light told him, but he was still looking at the beach. "I don't know what you are going through right now, but 'all will be alright in time' - I heard that song a while ago".

"Yeah... I hope it will be alright... In time." Nathan said, but he knows deep inside him that he doesn't believe what he said. Things being alright?

'In my dreams.' he thought and laid back on the tree to face the ocean and accept the breeze that it had sent him. He took a deep breath and relaxed for a while.

"What do you think is your mission in this world?" Nathan asked Light.

"Everyone in this world has something tough going on for them, and I wanted to be a light to make them remember that there's hope. I want to be the comfort of those people. Itstalready hard for them and not having a oerson to takl to would make it worse." Light said, and Nathan saw earnestness in his eyes. He believed him the moment he opened his mouth to speak because of the strange aura he was emitting. "How about you?"

"Me?" Nathan was flustered because of Light's directfulness. Light nodded.

"I dont even know if I still want to continue living. No one understands me, and people always bully me or they stay away from me. And-" Nathan stopped because of the constant stream of thoughts that came out on his mind. Why had he opened up to Light, who was a complete stranger to him? Why, of all reasons had this person came to him the exact time he needed someone to rely on?

He flinched at the thoughts. Light noticed his actions because he almost tripped out of the tree. He luckily found his balance again as Light pulled his black jacket. Nathan was not too heavy because he wasn't too big. They were at the same age but Light was taller than him- and probably stronger because he easily pulled him back at the tree.

Nathan wasn't too small because he was quite muscular but he seemed to have already forgotten that because of the chastisements he recieved from people.

"Are you okay?" Light asked him, concern was evident at his tone. Nathan arranged himself and he fit into the tree.

"I-I am okay." he said and turned away.

"Are you sure?" Light asked.

"Of course I am!" Nathan said.

"If you say so," Light said and looked at his necklace- he wasn't surprised that the clock inside it hadn't changed a bit. He stood up and put up a front of leaving the tree. "If you are fine now, then I am happy and I can now leave." Light climbed down the tree and waited if Nathan will go with him.

And Nathan also left the tree.

"W-where are you going?"

"School." Light said.

"C-can I come with you?" Nathan asked.

"Mount your bike. Let's race!" Light screamed and went away with his bike.

"Why- you cheater!"

Nathan mounted his bike because of adrenaline and went racing with Light. It wasn't long that he caught up with Light who was slowling down because of the curves in the road.

"Hey! You're too slow!" Nathan screamed as he passed Light. His bike was the latest model whilst Light's was an old brown bike that he just saw when he searched the attic of the house he was staying at.

Nathan felt a surge of happiness that showered him as he saw Light trying to get past him with his old bike. Was that how it felt like to have someone to talk to? To bond with? Was life this happy if he just tried to look at the bright side? Series of questions flooded his mind but he shook that off. This moment with the first friend he made all his life was too beautiful for him to get distracted by those meaningless thoughts.

It was just like a while ago that they were racing from the tree, but he can now see the sign saying that he was already at the next town. He looked back to see Light looking at the sceneries while he paddled his bike. It has been exactly 27 minutes since they left the tree.

"Seems like its a loss for me." Light grinned at Nathan, who- for the first time showed a true smile.

"My house is over there. Let's go." Light said.

Nathan smiled. It was his first time going to a friend's house.

A FRIEND.

Did he- Nathan- who was the absolute introvert called someone his friend?

"Hey." Light snapped at him because he seemed to be lost in his own thoughts. "Do you not want to come?"

"All will be alright in time..." Nathan hummed and went at Light's side.
