It was the thought of Mari's happiness that made Joy fall asleep peacefully the moment she threw herself on her bed. The feeling was foreign to her and what she had expected after the mission was pain in the cuts she had acquired- but she was surprised that there was none- the pain in her wrists cannot surpass the happiness she felt inside her. She felt like she can be alone again because the happiness she felt was enough for her to endure even the deepest sadness.
Light, on the other hand, had been intently gazing at the sky from his window and he seem to have been thinking so hard. He hadn't been oriented about the discoloration of the other necklace besides his'- it was supposed to be a transparent white circle pendant with a pinkish heart on the center but he saw the necklace of Joy as it darkened a while ago- and he almost lost his grip on Joy who laid unconscious in his hand when he saw the necklace.
'Could it be that it's an indication to prepare me for my main mission?' Light thought as he held the necklace and let himself fall on his bed. He had eaten the curry Josephine had given him a while ago, which he ate merrily like a child tasting a candy for the first time. He had been so happy because his budget [from where he came from] was too limited for him so he was really thankful to Josephine who had been constantly giving him food.
The afterimage of Joy's smile remained intanct in his mind- it was the first time that he saw the gray eyes of Joy that seemed to be projecting a bright sparkle that almost looked like her eyes were beaming silver, her nose was also pointed and it made her facial features more defined, and especially, her long hair that had been lurking down to her waist seemed like soft silk unknown to this world. Just as Light was about to fall into a deep slumber, a familiar faint glow came from his necklace, which, to his knowledge, signifies another mission at hand. He opened his still glowing necklace and saw an unfamiliar face and the reverberating time- 10:00 pm tomorrow. Just then, he shut it out and an image of a place started to appear. It was a school- but not the one he was attending. It was in the town next to theirs.
Light and Joy have classes tomorrow, but Light had extra time because of his assured A in Math.
'I should stop by tomorrow at this school.' Light thought as he looked at his pendant while simulations on what will happen tomorrow had been running inside his head until he finally fell asleep.
"I saw it when I woke up. My necklace was showing some wierd light." Joy said as she and Light walked towards their school. Light's eyes were focused on the necklace of Joy and it validated his theory.
"A countdown." Light spoke and Joy looked at the direction he was looking at, mistaking it for something else.
"What are you looking at?" she said, frowning at Light who seemed a bit shocked to see her reaction. "and what were you talking about?"
"Nothing. Don't mind me." Light said and went away, still pondering about the countdown.
'I shouldn't get attached to this human being or else I'll fail my mission.' he thought and continued walking towards their school gate.
However, both of them hadn't realized that someone had been tailing them.
