Chapter 5: 18 Realizations In College
1. You'll lose some of your high school friends even those friends you used to considered as for eternity. A stage where you can say your friends aren't really your friends
2. You'll meet some temporary and even lifetime friends whom you can share your stress with
3. Crying at 3 AM Experiencing mental breakdown trying to finish school works seem alarming but is common in college
4. You can get along and makipagplastikan even to the people you hate for the sake of school activity
5. You can be seatmate and blockmate with people for months yet you still don't know their names
6. Grades won't literally measure your intellect, but it does measure your perseverance and sense of responsibility. This explains why there are teachers na sobrang galing but they were not academic achievers. They learned through heart, not just by bookish mind
7. Kung sa high school masaya ka nang highest ka? Sa college pumasa ka lang grabeng kagalakan na. We do not seek for recognition here, we are after the survival. We do not see someone else as our rival, but rather, college is a battle between me and myself, and me with my degree. Will I finish it or Will it finish me?
8. Normal nang di matulog sa dami ng subjects at sunod sunod na requirements at kaliwa't kanang group activities na uubos sa brain cells at pera mo. Sabay sabay pa minsan mag demand lahat ng subjects, at wala ka karapatang mag reklamo.
9. Matututo kang di lang basta magkabisa, kundi aralin at unawain talaga ang lesson dahil karamihan sa exams, di lang bastang definition ibibigay sayo. Kaya kung sanay ka sa memorization lang, learn to adjust your study style then change. Don't memorize, but familiarize
10. Suprise quizes na tutuyo sa tuyot mo nang utak. This will definitely show if you are learning from hours of discussion
11. Imumulat ka sa mundo. Mga akala mong tama, mali pala. Mga akala mong mali pwedeng maging tama. Mga pangyayari sa lipunang akala natin normal lang, pero epekto lang pala ng nakaraan. Facts na hindi sinasabi sa libro, mga kwentong hindi naisasalin sa kahit na anumang akademikong babasahin. Promise, feel ko na mamundok, sumama sa mga terorista at mag-aral mamaril
12. Makikita mo gaano kalandi ang Pilipino. May crush na classmate, na prof, may crush sa iba't ibang course and department. Hala sige tigang
13. Matututo ka ng iba't ibang klase ng pasimpleng paraan ng pagtulog sa klase nang di nahuhuli ni prof.
14. Less time for jowa. Kaya challenge ito sa mga mag jowa dahil if your relation isn't genuine enough, most likely you'll lose interest on each other due to lack of time
15. Readings. Readings. At readings uli. Oo, puro basa tas sobrang haba pa. Sarap lumamon ng papel at pdf files
16. May GC ka na ng section, GC pa uli ng lahat ng subjects, GC ng mga tropa, GC ng bawat activities, GC ng mga club and org, tas GC uli ng section with adviser. Oo, good luck messenger
17. Ma re-realize mong bobo ka. This is the place where the world will slap you with the fact that 'HINDI KA MATALINO, MASIPAG KA LANG!'. Most likely to experience it are those who are achievers in high school. Kasi sila yung nag-iisip ng they'll garner unos, be dean's lister, graduate with latin honors. The compliments from other people because of their academic awards in high school gave them complex kaya nang mapunta sila sa mundo kung saan maraming matalinong gaya nila, they'll start doubting if they're really smart o masipag lang. This is where their self-identity are at risk, gettin disappointed and ashamed of themselves because failing academically doesn't literally just mean 'failing as a student' for them but rather, it is failing as a son/daughter, failing as a former achiever, and failing as a human being who was once receiving medals but now depressed and looking down on himself.
18. College is an ocean. It's either you sink or you'll help yourself and swim.
