The next school week went by pretty fast. No real issues from the party during it. Tutoring was canceled by the Dean. A "guest" from the Kansai group wanted to speak with the students for some reason.
Max didn't mind at all. Taking a free day of sorts.
Max just spent time walking around campus. He made it over to the building with the male students. A few teachers even invited him inside to join in lectures.
A particular math teacher wanted a correction on something. A bonus for the students for the last quiz. But none could solve it. Even the teacher realized the answer was wrong after reading and checking online again.
"If you do not know it, how can we solve it?" Marshall asked. The others grumbled.
"Not my fault. The problem was listed incorrectly. The professor online even stated it." Mr.Mitarashi couldn't help it, he turned to see Max writing on the blackboard. "Do you know the answer?"
"I know something that is related to this. This is more Quantum Physics though. Or what the heck it was called.." Tapping his foot, Max paused. Quiet for about 3 minutes. ".. must not be important if I can't remember it."
"Eh? What kind of teacher says that about knowledge?"
"The kind that doesn't care to waste time on it." Max shrugged as he continued writing. "Whether you pay attention does not matter brat."
The last bit finished with a rewrite at the last part. Mr.Mitarashi checked over and made a few corrections. Just to address the greater percentage.
The students wrote everything down and started to converse as well. In moments it became rowdy.
"Hmm, thought about increasing your education?" Max asked Mr.Mitarashi. "Your view on various applications is quite nice."
"On my salary, heh! Not a chance." Mr.Mitarashi made a joke but it was also the truth. "With the time it takes as well, too difficult."
"But you would like to now?" Max wrote some stuff on a piece of paper. A phone number and address for the man to look into. "No reason to not try."
"Thank you."
"Cosu, that looks like a headache." Another teen said.
"Takes a long time to understand everything. That is the purpose of knowledge. Always growing and changing to find the Empirical Truth." Max mumbled. He was lost in thought for a second about something he was once told. 'Maybe I should obtain "it" here in this lifetime? But the last I did, it was more of a problem than anything. Also made me extremely lazy. All "Nyx's" fault.'
"At least it helped solve something with my research. My rocket fuel will be a lot better." A bookish teen said.
"It will work great as a basis for my fuel in my parents' mill. Definitely more efficient than the kerosine we are using." Another male said. The class was very enthused after comparing the problem to past ones. "Mr.Mitrashi can you help with this part? I think this volume would cause problems. I do not want to get arrested again."
"Hahaha, sure." Mr.Mitrashi chuckled wryly. Some days he thought his students were mad scientists. On other days he knew they were. But the silent war between the academy students made things murky. "Excuse me, Max."
"No problem." Max left quickly enough. 'Never understood why it is called Saint Mahora's Academy for girls when a male part is literally part of the Academy. But then again the number is so low, most likely allowed for the teachers' children and whatnot. As well as the people who work in this damn near city. I can see why so much is modeled after Venice, Italy.'
Max went from the boys' building to the High School area. After that, he made it to the Mahora University and the Mahora Institute of Technology. Each was a fine building with a top-notch education. He was actually impressed.
Then a few hours were spent at, Mahora Junior High School Attached to Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Mahora International University Affiliated High School. The last, having a good majority of the males in it.
The day had grown late when he arrived at the Tatsumiya shrine. It was a very large structure and took up a good bit of campus area. Max came here for several reasons. The secondary reason for Mana. This after all was part of her background in a way.
He entered through the West gate and moved toward the Worship hall. Along the way noticing several spells in place. They were surprisingly good. Made one wonder if they were destroyed later in the series or if someone completely got rid of them.
'Oh wait, they had the competition here. That would explain it.' Max turned towards the East Gate. In that area was the Light Tower. The place Chao used for several projects. He would have to destroy it later if she posed another problem. 'Time for that later.'
*Sching!* Max missed a lens having caught him looking that way. A high-speed shutter taking pictures of him.

Shrine-
.
Standing in front, Max paid respects to the spirits of the place. All around several ghosts appeared. Some in fear, some in respect. Max started to whisper as spiritual words traveled out. He was looking for a very specific ghost. A ghost that had ties to someone and met certain criteria. A will o wisp floated over and entered Max. Answering his call. Afterward, Max gave a chant putting all the other spirits to rest.
*Dong! Dong! Dong!* The bell in the area rang three times. A spiritual ringing that echoed throughout the entire academy. It was a good thing school was out.
*Stream!* A large flood of spirit essence was absorbed by Max. A large portion still seeped into the Shrine for later. Later he would refine it to make his own. More than enough to break through and temper himself to normal. Neutral acts, sometimes paid off.
"Who are you?" A man in a suit asked. He appeared via magic from inside the shrine. Max detected a few others inside. "It can't be.. Nagi.."
"I am not that half-wit Nagi. Kurt Godel, Governor-General of New Ostia. You look so well with that disguise on." Max peered right through the illusion magic the man had in place. Causing Kurt to visibly flinch. "You should buzz off before you get hurt."
"To threaten me despite knowing who.." Kurt was cut off as Max sent a compressed fist forward. "Kuff!" He coughed up blood barely getting away. Looking back, he saw the distortion in space. 'Gravity magic?!' Not getting enough time to figure things out, as Max was unleashing another spell. 'Damn him!'
"Return to the depths of hell, with the living offering, Grimm!" The chant was a half chant. But it had more than enough power to injure the man.
*Sching!* The space opened as Max spread his hands apart. He was still standing in the same place as he first arrived. Moving his hands high, a skeleton appeared. Robes formed from spiritual energy in the area. In an instant, it was dressed like a monk.
Grimm was a summons made from the spirit of a Demon God in another lifetime. Eternal servitude but also eternal life. He also received a large boost every time he was summoned.
"EEEEeiiiiii!" His cry caused the technology in the area to fritz. The spells in the area were completely overrun by the Deity. Now linked to Grimm in every way. A habitat the demon had. He loved to mark his territory quickly. "Kukukuku, what a delicious place this is. But so unsecured. Too many stupid demons going around hurting innocent people. I have to change that."
Grimm's eyes shined a light blue. A few demons skulking around the city were immediately dragged into portals. Skeletal hands pulling them from those they seek to hurt.
"I do not threaten, I say what will happen. Then it does." Max smirked. He flicked his hand and Grimm summoned a fan. A large fan covered in beads and a chain at the base. "Buzz off."
*Bzzzzz!* Heavenly lighting encircled the fan. With a single flick, Kurt was launched away buzzing as lighting ripped through his body. The heavenly lighting burrowed into his body striking at his very soul. Punishing him for evil deeds he committed.
But it would not kill him, unfortunately.
"AAHHHhhh!" Kurt screamed into the distance. His body twitched in the air as he flew.
"Kukuku what an evil person, but misguided." Grimm shrunk to the height of a normal man. Spiritual energy swirling around making his body more real. "Amitayus master." He paid respects to Max.
"Amitabha, Grimm." Max paid his respects back.
"Max..." Mana appeared in an instant. She could feel the change in the area. Seeing Grimm caused her blood to hum. She felt the need to kneel but didn't. Mostly because Grimm told her not to with a gesture. "Who is this Max?"
"A God.." Dean Konoe said in fear. He was one of the people that was inside the shrine. He eyed Max and couldn't help but be amazed. 'If he has Gods on his side, what is he doing here? To what end does he plan to do things?'
"A Demon God to bring order to the wayward demons." Max stated calmly. "To also protect the area in the future."
"Max.. is this Demon God a Buddhist?" Evangeline looked slack-jawed. The simple idea of it using divine abilities makes for a purely absurd situation. "Why is it not a devil?"
"Because it does not meet the criteria of a devil. Two, he has know desire to be one. I suggest you dive deeper into the "way of life" to understand." Seeing Evangeline's disgruntled look, he whacked her on the head. "Do not be a brat and judge before understanding. Leave that to assholes like me."
"Teacher abuse!" Evangeline cried.
"Ehem Max," Dean Konoe got his attention. "Are you submitting him to the Tatsumiya shrine?"
"Yes, he already marked it as his territory. So demons in the area and evil spirits will be weakened. As well as people who come to pray to receive a bit of help in various matters. But also wicked people receiving nightmares." Max smirked. "Payment for Mana. Not letting the Tatsumiya Shrine find any means to come after her. She is mine now."
"Of course, I believe they will definitely not cause an issue." Dean Konoe understood perfectly. It was one of the reasons he was speaking with the Shrine Elders just now. "No reason for you to spend your time here. I will take care of it."
"Alright, later then." Max felt a little tired and left. If the Dean wanted to make amends or deal with the situation himself, he wouldn't fuss. "Mana, do sit and chat with Grimm. He has much to teach you history-wise. Do not stay too late Evangeline."
"Ok..." Mana was stunned. But she and Evangeline had already started talking with Grimm.
"What a weird turn of events." The Shrine Master said. Despite the shrine being in his family, he would let the young talk first. Well, not like they were really younger than him. 'Haaa, maybe it will not be that bad letting her go to him?'

-Back Home-
.
Kaede was in the living room meditating. She opened her eyes the very instant Max appeared. Seeing the new energy in him. Surprised that he found such ambient essences in a day.
"Max, did you make it to the library?"
"Nope. Made it to the shrine though. Caused a little incident there." Max sat down across from her. Raising his hand, a small man appeared. One of the spirits from the Shrine. "An ancestor of yours. Small insights for you."
"You are a very promising descendant." The spirit mumbled. Not enough strength to remember his exact identity. But enough to pass teachings to her. "Do you have a small tablet?"
"Ehhh yes, of course!" Kaede pulled out a small stone tablet from her wrist. It was spirit hunting for later, but this worked just as well. "Please, until I find something better."
*Doop!* Air dispersed as the ghost sealed in the tablet. Kaede set it to the side and stared back at Max.
"Thank you very much." She didn't bow as Max told her not to. But the sentiment was there. "What do you have prepared now?"
"A breakthrough, for me and you, be prepared this will hurt." Max's voice was grave.
