Sober

I waited patiently for my friends to come and go to Kaiba's room. As soon as the visits were over and everyone had said goodbye to Mokuba, we left the hospital building. Joey left us each at his home, even though Téa had kindly offered us lunch at his home. But because of my grandfather, I ended up refusing the invitation and she understood.

As soon as I entered my house, I heard a noise of voices. I walked around the room and came across my grandfather sitting on the chair he liked best, watching a TV program. He soon turned his lilac eyes on me and smiled gently.

- Grandmother! - I smiled and went to hug him. - Are you better?

- Yugi - He gave a hoarse laugh - Yes. It was just a pain in the back. Age thing. - We said in unison and he laughed again. - Where were you? I woke up and looked for you all over the house, and you didn't answer the phone either. It made me worried.

I sat on the floor next to him and told him what had happened about Kaiba. He did not seem surprised and said that he had actually seen on television, a few minutes ago, that the Domino championship had once again been paralyzed. He felt a little bad for Seto and asked me how he was doing. We talked from there, and I told him that since the tournament had been canceled, I was planning to stay home to help. He looked happy and sad at the same time, thinking he knows how much I like the card tournament.

I didn't want to tell you that I actually wanted to have kisses with Atem, instead of leaving the house with my friends, until Pharaoh got better. Even though after all I couldn't suppress some random smiles when I thought about it, it could make Grandpa suspicious of my real intentions when I stayed home. Anyway, he understood and said that I was going to have lunch at last. And this is what I did. Then I took shelter in my room to get some rest, after all, nothing had slept that night. I lay down on the bed, still a little warm, and closed my eyes quickly, with exhaustion.

This time, I didn't dream about anything, not even that thick laugh that came out of Atem's lips, in the hospital. It was a quiet and peaceful sleep, like I never had in that week. I just woke up when it was late afternoon. The weak rays of the sun, already an orange color, penetrated the window giving the place a relaxing air. I ran my eyes over my bed, with a tremendous laziness to get up, and when I found strength and ran my hand over the mattress, I felt something beside me.

I turned quickly, looking at what I had touched. They were hands. White and wrapped their fingers lightly over me. The orange sun over his face made him more than beautiful. Even with his eyes closed, his expression was one of serenity. Gods ... how can he be so beautiful? I bit my lip while now my hands were guided to his cheeks, making light strokes with the tips of his fingers. Her skin was naturally smooth.

The tricolor hair fell out from time to time and I put it back in place. Even though I was just trying to focus on the beautiful face of Pharaoh, I couldn't let my eyes try to move down his helpless body. Sleeping like that, in such a vulnerable state, I could see him again as a good spirit. The blue coat spread out over the corners of the bed, while leaving a strip of his abdomen out of the black shirt.

I couldn't resist touching him. In fact, it was more like a boost my body made before I could stop myself. The skin was warm, and soon the fingertips felt the muscles defined. He climbed shamelessly up the length of Pharaoh's belly, and while I was too distracted, something suddenly grabbed my hand tightly, stopping it.

I quickly turned my face, flushed as never before, to see Pharaoh's intense eyes staring at me. One of his irises was still red, and it made me even more nervous. I could feel my heartbeat close to my throat, as if I was going to leave. The face heated up, while time seemed to pass more slowly. After a long second of staring at us, and my breath just becoming more uneven, Atem loosened his touch, without letting go of my hand, and relaxed his tense eyes on me.

- Oh, it's you Yugi. His hoarse voice resonated, letting my body crawl when I listened to it.

- A-A-tem ...- Said between stutters. I lowered my eyes - I'm sorry to wake you up.

- It's alright - He still said in a thick voice for the little recent use - I've just been a little too alert lately. -He then ran his fingers gently over my hand that he still held - I scared you, didn't I?

- N-no ... just ...- I couldn't complete the sentence out of nervousness.

Atem shifted on the bed, getting up and sitting on it. While looking at him I ended up leaving the words in the air, and I didn't complete any reasoning that I had left. His eyes closed slowly, as if seducing me. Again. Then his mischievous lips turned into a smile and huffed between them.

- You're nervous. What's it? - He said in his typical soft and worried way.

- Nothing ... I was just surprised to see you around here. - Said referring to the fact that he slept with me.

- Ah yes. - His body then bowed a little closer, and he pouted - About that, I'm sorry. I came to ask you something, but I realized you were sleeping. I wouldn't wake you up, I was sleeping very soundly. He gave a silly smile. - I was waiting, but I ended up falling asleep too.

I let out a smile. Atem really was mysterious. He was the type who liked to appreciate the little things, and also the naive type, or just pretends to be. But look who's talking, see, I left him like this.

- I understand. No problem. You should be tired too. - I felt his hands gently squeeze my hands, even though my eyes had been fixed on his. - Do you still remember what you came to ask? - He said scratching his hair.

He nodded, turning his eyes downward, as if he was forcing his memory a little. Then he turned to me and frowned.

- No. My thoughts are confused, and it helps me to quickly forget my reasoning. I still slept to make it worse ...- He looked away, clearly uncomfortable with himself.

- Oh, it's okay. I'm sure you'll remember later. - Said, trying not to make him sad about the situation. I know that Atem has always valued his intellect and his quick thinking. This must be difficult for him. - I know how to help you with that. Well ... when I'm not sleeping, it should work. - I gave a smile and he turned curious to me. - Whenever you feel confused, just connect our minds, as if it were a duel, and then I will help you. That serves doubts too ...

- Do you think it will work? - He said, putting his hands up to support his sad face.

- Of course. Do we not always win a duel when we are together ??? - I smiled childishly at him.

- You're right. - A convinced smile played over the Egyptian lips. - I will try.

- Can I ask you a question? - I said curiously to him.

- Of course. Since I forgot mine… - He sighed slightly, looking at me.

- What to eat ice cream ??? - Said between a little jump.

He laughed thickly, and shook his head, letting his beautiful teeth shine over his face.

- I thought I would ask something serious, Yugi. - He laughed again.

- But it is very serious. - Said between a sly pout.

- It's all right. But ...- He looked away. - It would be nice if I brought you here. Your grandfather wouldn't like to see me ... like that. He pointed to the reddish eye.

- It's all right. Wait for me, okay? - He said and little by little I slid my hand from his, while the same devastated me with a soft but sad look.

I obviously changed the question. Although I really wanted to go back to my usual afternoon programs with Pharaoh, and try to forget a little about this story of his disorder and nightmares, I didn't really want to ask him. He was beginning to understand now that that reddish eye only indicated how divided his spirit was. And if those eyes took you completely, would I lose you ??? Could not.

I grabbed the ice cream jar and hurried back up to the room. Atem was still sitting, touching a golden lock of his hair, and his eyes turned as soon as I entered the room. I handed him the ice cream jar and he looked at it for a while.

- Um, I hope it doesn't fall on my shirt this time. - He said staring at the ice cream and I let out a laugh at the comment, remembering the episode.

- I, I already hope it falls ...- Said between giggles.

- As I said? He raised his eyebrows at me, and for a moment his reddened eyes narrowed on the iris, leaving it half lilac and half red.

- Haha ha. You make a very funny face when it happens ...- Said nibbling more ice cream, and disguising how in fact it was because he would remove his shirt when it happened.

He was silent for a while, then turned his mischievous eyes on me.

- It seems that I'm not the only one who has problems with ice cream. - He said with a muffled laugh.

- Huh? What ... - I tried to look at my face and searched with the tips of my finger for some remnant of ice cream over there.

"This is very rude," he said suddenly, looking at me.

- What? - I said confused.

- Pretend you don't know you have ice cream on your lips and make confused faces. - He turned his eyes to his ice cream.

I pouted a little angry. I was not pretending anything. So I went to clean the ice cream on my shirt sleeve, and Atem stopped me with his hands, preventing my arm from completing the action.

- This is dirty. Let me clean it up for you.

He took off his own coat, and then with one end of the fabric, came over and cleaned the floor. ice cream that was in my mouth. His eyes were focused on me, and I thought he wouldn't notice the fact that I was now only able to pay attention to his bare, insinuating neck. Also, from so close up, its fragrance returned to my nostrils, leaving me mesmerized. He brought his soft pupils up to me and blushed a little, muttering something.

- What are you looking at? - He said crossing his arms.

- N-nothing ...- He said scratching his hair, and looking away. - Huh ... but now your coat is dirty.

** Just like your Yugi thoughts. - I thought to myself. **

He then looked at me with, in fact, a cute expression.

- No problem - He picked up his jar of ice cream again and finished it off.

- But you will be cold ...- Said, noticing that it really was cold these last days. - Only if you stay here, in my room it is very warm ...- Said pouting.

Atem blushed again. Something about my comments and looks today made him shy. It was as if we were at the beginning of our friendship again. Well, in fact, he was always quite shy about certain things. And that has always made him more attractive in my view. Even though it only came to light after those weeks, where my heart is so drawn to him. After all, what kind of relationship do I want to have with him?

- I won't bother you. You have too many things to think, do ...-

- Now, stop it. - I interrupted him - I promised I would help you. If you're better about my company, what's wrong? - Said between a friendly smile.

- I know. - He said rolling his eyes. - If you think it will be a good idea, Yugi ...

- Will be all right. You trust me, don't you?

- Yes I trust. He finally smiled, sighing between his laughing lips. - You are my best friend, remember?

- Of course I remember - He said between a laugh - So, whatever, let's go through it together. - I put my hand on yours.

- So ... what are we doing? He took my hand, holding a greater force on my fingers. He bit his lip as if scolding himself and looked away.

I was surprised by Pharaoh's reaction. I felt guilty for making him so confused. After all, was it for this reason, for all these feelings, that his spirit was so fickle?

- Why am I so attracted to you, Yugi?
