Chapter 65: The Fiancee

For a moment I thought that I had heard wrong. As I watched Dave swing his hips from side to side and walk to the dining room, it slowly sunk in that I hadn't. He was engaged?

As I combed a wayward lock of hair back from my forehead, I looked at my hand which had a slight shake to it. I had been involved sexually with someone who already had a fiancee. I had always had very strong feelings for those girls who had affairs with married men. Even if he was not married, being engaged was like half-married, right? And now I was of the same breed, albeit involuntarily.

I went to the kitchen where Martha bustled around without looking at me. As I opened my mouth to talk to her and ask her questions about Dave's fiancee, my reflection in the stainless steel exterior of the convection oven made me still. For a minute, I had forgotten about the body swap.

I went to the dining room where the real Dave was already seated busy on his phone. As usual.

'I didn't know you were engaged,' I began after a few seconds. I could see that he had not had the intention to give me any explanation on his own, so I decided to broach the topic myself.

He lifted his gaze and looked at me. I could not see dishonesty swimming in his eyes, but then I thought that I could not really trust his expression given that I was looking at my face at that moment. My judgement was bound to be flawed.

'This relationship had been decided even before I turned one. Her grandfather and mine were the best of friends and decided that their grandkids would get maried later on. That's it.'

'Child marriage?' I questioned, puzzled. I remembered giving my kids to do a presentation on that.

'No,' he said and left it at that.

'So?' I prompted him, making him look at me again, but this time with a slight dose of frustration. I wasn't playing the jealous girlfriend, I really wanted to know.

'I have met her a few times only. The last time was several years ago, before she left to conduct some research work in another world, I don't recall which one.'

'She's a scientist?' I asked, feeling the green monster rear up its head. Estena had been a blond bimbo for me, but here this new candidate had the brains too.

'You can ask her when she comes,' was the reply and I bristled at the barely camouflaged impatience in the tone.

I had no plan of talking to his fiancee, no thank you. But then, a thought suddenly pricked me and I asked. 'At what time will she come?'

'In less than an hour.'

I looked at the ring I was still holding. The green stone was starting to glow, but I could judge that it would take at least two hours for it to reach its full capacity. Of course, I hoped that I was wrong, but I doubted it.

'You do realize that I am currently in your body, right?' I told Dave who was looking way too calm. His past frustration had gone and he seemed to now enjoy being in my body.

'Yup, how can I forget?' he said and pushed his chest, my chest forward, making my breasts look prominent. I could not miss his hint and I blushed. I had only been thinking of me being in his body and going through different sensations, but now it hit me that he was going through similar feelings, maybe even more as he would be having his menses.

'But what will I do? You want me to meet her and pretend to be you?'

'In the eyes of everyone, you are Dave, Ash.'

I glared at him, faced with the horrible truth of his words.

'But I don't know anything about her?'

'Well, at least now you will understand me when I tell you that I don't know much about her,' he replied trimphantly. 'You wanted to know more about her, so now it will be the perfect opportunity for you to do so.'

'Can't we postpone the meeting?' I asked in desperation.

'I have no way to contact her. She has always been the one to contact me.'

He then stayed quiet as Martha came in and served lunch. We both ate silently. I observed how calm he looked, while I could feel my palms sweat. I had brought this situation upon us and as much as I didn't want to, I had to carry on this pretence for at least 2 more hours, until we could transition back.

I swallowed the half-chewed slice of carrot in the chicken broth, barely tasting the different spices that Martha had used to flavor the meal. My eyes kept switching from the plate in front of me to the wall clock mounted on the wall, counting the minutes until it would be time for the visit.
