Chapter 54: THE TABLE HAS TURNED AND MEN ALSO GET BROKEN
Phyllis has fully recovered and resumed work but had resigned from Richards International because her husband insisted she resigned since her work at the Foundation had become demanding. Denzel wanted her to have time for her Foundation and Home and also for her health due to the ectopic she had experienced. They were able to spend time together as often as they wanted because her workload had been reduced though she was serving as a private consultant for Richards International and five other firms.
Her Foundation had become well established with many beneficiaries and workers that she had to supervis, draw plans and see to their implementation though she mostly delegated such responsibilities and supervised their implementation. She also made time to go to the court to witness her husband's cases to support him and also to help him see his flaws and improve on them. Their relationship blossomed and their love felt like a new love being brewed.
One afternoon when she was having her lunch break with her husband, she had a call from the office and she was told that it was an emergency so they rushed to the office. One of the Visitors was the Regional Divisional Commander of Police so she rushed to usher them into her office and requested to know their purpose of visit. The Police Commander apologised for ruining her lunch break and went ahead to introduce the woman she came with to her as his niece who had survived suicide due to the timely intervention of a neighbour. So he decided to talk to Phyllis to help register her to her Foundation to help her recover from the emotional trauma she was going through.
Phyllis introduced herself to the lady and asked to know her too. The lady also introduced herself as Louisa Danso, a twenty five year old Physician Assistant at the Kumasi South Hospital. Phyllis spoke extensively to her on Dahlia Foundation and asked why the lady tried to take her beautiful life. The lady got quiet for a while so Phyllis realised she needed to win the lady's confidence without being judgemental for her to be able to confide in her. So she asked her uncle to excuse them while they have a talk. Phyllis asked her Personal Assistant to take the Police Commander to one of their guest rooms and make sure he's comfortable there. Phyllis brought her food and drinks out and gave Louisa a spoon to join her as they eat. When they finished eating, Beryl was brought in by Denzel because they had closed earlier than usual. Phyllis introduced Beryl to Louisa and asked Beryl to say hello to "Aunty Louisa". "Aunty Louisa, good afternoon. How are you? You're a very pretty woman and I like your dress too.
Louisa warmly responded to Beryl and Beryl hugged her before she left. This created a rapport between Louisa and Phyllis and she began to talk to Phyllis without holding back.
"I met a young man after Senior High School when I couldn't further my education because of lack of finances. This young man was a Junior High School graduate who had been selling second clothes right after Junior High School because he had no one to support him. After two years of being together, he bought the Kintampo College of Health admission forms for me so I applied and get admissions to study. He did not only pay my tuition but made every provision I needed for my education. He sponsored me till I graduated and got a job. Even after I got a job, he hired an apartment closer to the Hospital and furnished it for me. He continued to give me my monthly allowances even though I was earning a salary. I began to feel he's not my class and soon I had fallen out of love with him and I started misbehaving with him so that he would leave but he continued to beg for my love and apologised for things that weren't even his fault. He proposed marriage last year but I requested for time to prepare for it. He walked in on me having sex with a doctor from the hospital and collapsed. He has been in coma for three weeks and his family especially mother blames me for that. I tried to kill myself because of the guilt and shame. I feel so ashamed of myself and really want to die. Why have I managed to turn a good man into a bitter man? How would he trust and be kind to other women? He's the sole breadwinner of his family? How are they coping? They're refusing help from me and I feel so terrible." Louisa sat quietly for a while before Phyllis spoke.
" Louisa Darling, you don't have to die to end the pain. Do you know how he would have felt if you had died because of him? You would have shattered the life of a good man. I feel good knowing that you're remorseful for what you did. Don't take it the wrong way but if you feel pain and guilt, then it means your conscience is working and that's a good thing. What's the name of your boyfriend and which hospital is he so that I would check up on him for you before we continue? But before then I need to know how you genuinely feel about him. Please be honest with me. I want your honest feelings and not a feeling borne out of guilt and shame. Kindly make a clear assessment of your feelings and let me know." Phyllis tapped her shoulder to get her to feel her seriousness and concern at the same time.
" Honestly, I have tried building relationships with other guys before this incidence happened and I never met a guy that cared and loved me selflessly like Edward does. I didn't cheat on him not because I didn't love him but I thought he was out of my league but even so I never found a good lover in any of those who were in my league. I know I have been cruel and unfair to Eddie but my eyes and mind are clear now and I am ready to settle with him if only he would give me the chance to. Lest I forget, he's Edward Nsiah and has been admitted to the University Hospital at Tech."Louisa remorsefully said with sadness in her tone.
Phyllis called a doctor friend at the Hospital and fortunately he was the one in charge of Edward's case. He asked Phyllis to come with Louisa to help him undertake a treatment which he thought would help Edward's recovery. The doctor spoke to Edward's family about Louisa and asked them to permit Louisa to be there so that, Edward's recovery would be faster so they agreed. Phyllis called Louisa's uncle and left for the Hospital with them. The doctor placed Edward in an MRI machine and asked Louisa to talk to him. "Eddie, I miss you so much. It's been so lonely without you here. Do you remember our first date? When we trekked from Tech to Anloga Junction to buy apples because we just wanted to spend time together? Do you remember when you carried me on your back? Do you remember the day we lost our virginity? When we both didn't know how to have sex so you had to call Braima to teach you and how you didn't want to stop because you said it was sweet? What about how you felt when you first dropped me on campus? We were both happy and sad at the same time. Eddie dear, there's something I want to tell you. I am three months pregnant with twins. It was confirmed about a week ago and it is yours." Louisa said with a heavy sigh. The MRI picked some signals which meant that Eddie could hear her. It was agreed that Louisa continued to visit the hospital until Edward recovers. Just as they were about to leave, Louisa fell down on her knees and with tears begged for forgiveness from Edward's family. Everyone present could see that she had deeply regretted what she did and besides the family had heard about her attempted murder and knew that her apology was sincere. His mother and father helped her get on her feet and told her they had forgiven her. They went to the cafe and had a long discussion with her before Phyllis could leave with her. This was made possible because while she was in there with the doctor and Edward, Phyllis and her uncle had a talk with Edward's family about what had happened with Louisa and how she felt. Phyllis had convinced them that, it was good that, Edward and Louisa had that setback at that time and that it had thought both of them a lesson which they would hold on forever. "I this had not happened, they might have married and the marriage would have been a hell for both o them. Now if they chose to marry, they would both cherish each other especially Louisa would be submissive to Edward because she wouldn't want to lose him again." This had worked the magic on Edwards family.
Louisa and her uncle thanked Phyllis for helping resolve the issues between her and Edward's family and also for helping her get over her suicidal thoughts and making her accept responsibility for her actions. She hugged Phyllis and promised to visit her soon with a feedback. Phyllis hurriedly drove home because it was getting late and she hadn't prepared supper. When she got home, Denzel had prepared the supper and laid the table while Melanie was teaching Beryl her homework.
"Hey baby, I'm so sorry for being late and oooh thank you so much for cooking. You don't know how this means to me." She locked lips with him and said " you're a life saver." and he smiled. Honey, there's a guest in the guest room and I need you to help him too. I know you deal with women but I also know you're a smart woman who can easily help my friend. Phyllis smiled saying "anything for my big boss." Denzel went inside to call his friend to the dinning room. Phyllis set the table at the balcony because she knew Denzel's friend needed fresh air in as much as he needed to talk. Denzel introduced his friend as Elikem to her. Phyllis warmly welcomed him and got him to share his pain.
" I have been dating a lady for four years now. To be honest with you, I was madly in love with her and was willing to do just anything to be with her. I noticed a change in her attitude towards her and I thought it was her work keeping her busy because she hardly would call or pick my calls and whenever I decided to visit her she finds an excuse which I thought was tangible. She came to meet my cousin lying on my bed about three weeks ago and angrily left without giving me the chance to explain myself to her. She had blocked me on all her social media accounts and also on her phone as well. I decided to pay her a visit last weekend and was told she had moved out so I went to her office this afternoon and i was told by the receptionist that she's gone on her honeymoon since she got married last weekend. I thought it was a lie so I called her bestie and she confirmed that the lady had actually gotten married and they haven't spoken ever since she saw her wedding invitation because she told her friend that she was wicked for betraying and disappointing me in that manner. She said she was called jealous and a witch for opposing her friend's marriage." Elikem broke down into uncontrollable tears and after they had watched him cry for a while, Phyllis got to their bar to get one of their expensive wines and served Elikem with it. Denzel didn't dare touch it because he knew hell would break loose if he drank. Phyllis asked him for the name of his ex girlfriend on Facebook and when he told her, she searched on Facebook for her and wow! she couldn't stop gushing over her wedding. It was an expensive wedding and she was married to her boss who had recently divorced his wife of six years. She made a few calls and she was informed by one of the people she spoke to that, the man left his wife to marry Elikem's ex girlfriend because she claimed she was pregnant for him and since his wife had been having issues with getting pregnant, he divorced her and the woman who was suffering from a mental breakdown is currently living with her mother.
" Elikem dear, drink and make merry. I know you're hurting but this is the best thing that could happen to anyone especially a good man like you. Your Sweetheart broke another woman's home so that she could be married to her rich husband. They had been together for more than a year now and that means she had been cheating on you for a long while before she broke up with you. Listen, you need to see this as a blessing in disguise and heal from the pains it is causing you because you would have suffered worse than this. You would have married her and she would be still sleeping with wealthy men of affluence so that she could achieve her ambitions and you would have suffered for it because she would still blame you for not making your marriage work and she would have forced you to be stealing from the office just to satisfy her insatiable needs. Sorry but she had done you a favour." Phyllis advised Elikem who was impressed with her method of counselling and how wise she was. She could use words to heal and give hope and that's the best woman any man could ever have. Denzel drove Elikem home but on their way home, he made some few calls and they all confirmed what Phyllis said about his ex girlfriend and he became at peace with himself.
Phyllis rocked Beryl to bed and she also showered and went straight to bed because she had had a long day and was very tired. She was very horny but very tired as well so when her husband came, she told him how she felt and Denzel quickly took a shower and sneaked inside her comforter and licked her until she squirted and Denzel brushed his penis on her vagina and clitoris until he also came and they both slept.
